Food portions?

A little budget/portion control trick we've employed is to keep a sleeve of cups and spoons in the vehicle. We can buy the largest DQ blizzard or Sonic blast and split 4 ways without breaking the bank or consuming way more calories than we should

How about this for a little trick? Don't eat that.

An interesting rule of thumb is to eat like a King for breakfast, a Prince at lunch, and a pauper at dinner if weight loss or maintenance is a goal.

Yes, but did you know you can get an all you can eat at the local Ryan’s or Golden Coral for $5.99. Those paupers eat well too you know...

Things like chocolate and ice cream just a few generations ago were luxuries only royalty could enjoy.
Now we have to try and make sure we don’t have too much of it.

Same for many other foodstuffs routinely over indulged in our society.
As a kid, we were happy to get a 6 1/2 oz. Coca Cola bottle as a treat on an irregular basis. Not daily or even weekly. Bottled/canned drinks were not seen in our refrigerator as I was coming up, but Borden’s milk was always available as was tap water.
Nowadays, watch folks come out of a gas station or fast food joint with quart sized drinks. Super sized stuff is everywhere.
BTW, obesity was never available to poor people until recent years. That was always a sign of being rich enough to afford to get fat.

There was exactly ONE "fat" person in my high school class. And by today's standards they weren't that fat, either.

Certainly believable. My High School won the title in the biggest classification for football in Florida the year after I graduated. There was one kid on a very good team my senior year weighing over 200 pounds and he was far from a star.
This super sized stuff is leading to lots of health issues that were historically only available to the wealthy. Now, it is almost flipped as the rich have access to healthier diets, personal trainers, etc... while the poor have rampant issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and such.

I feel no compulsion to finish a meal out. Yet, I often finish what is served. Just depends. If there’s a pile of breakfast potatoes and toast I’m probably leaving one or the other behind. I rarely don’t finish an animal protein, because that animal died so that I could eat it.

But those potatoes died as well! I find your callousness towards the tubers troubling.

Load up... make ‘me hurt. It’s the American way
This is why I vary rarely hit the buffet places. I literally can't stop myself from eating until I am about to explode. My wife doesn't eat that much, so when we go to a restaurant, we almost always split a dinner. We love to go on cruises, and I generally come back about 5 pounds heavier. I like to blame it on my mother. She was always pushing food on us (and still does).

We hit the Astros game last night after going to thing at the local restaurant. It was dollar dog night. I had a ton of oysters and then felt I needed to balance out the mezcal with Nolan Ryan's beef (hey now). So hurting today...

Little known fact: the potato was actually a new world veggie. Cultivated by early Peruvians and introduced to Europe in the late 1500's

Another little know fact. There are over 4,000 varieties of potato, mostly from the area you indicate and not just the 12 most of us see at the grocery. Same with our limited access to mangos.

Makes me think about this story I just read. You think you go crazy with all you can eat in a day, what if you had a monthly membership?

I've tried a great deal of different menus, but I just can't seem to stop my binge eating; especially on football weekends! When I get nervous, eating really helps me to relax. At times, my appetite for certain things is just insatiable! I really love things that are very sweet, too. My sweet tooth is usually just craving for more and more... When it comes to meat, I usually prefer very rare. It just has to have a lot of pink and still be very juicy inside. The juices alone can be very satisfying. I got a thing for tuna tacos, too. I'm open to any ideas concerning weight loss, and would deeply appreciate more tips for eating better as a whole.

Have a stroke. Your appetite will drop like a rock.

I've lost 30 pounds since mine, and basically all I've done consciously in altering my diet is stop adding salt to stuff. I just don't want as much.

I've got to admit, alcohol i.e fireballs do(es) suppress my appetite at times. However, many times it just ignites it in a indescribable way. A great deal depends on the venue and the scenery.
And I'm all for dropping salt! That's a real killer especially when you got so much sweeter things just staring at your face. Thanks guys!

Sometimes I wonder what a "Happy Days" (1950s) serving of burgers and fries looks like compared to today's serving. How much bigger is the burger and bun? And is it a 5 pound difference in fries, or 6?

I hear you NJDoak! :)Same things with hot dogs! Are the dogs of today shorter/longer and/or thicker or leaner? And what are they really made of? 5, 6, 7 sizes makes an incredible difference. And to your point, what kind of quality buns are they getting into? Nowadays, buns can be too much of a filler and not truly reflective of the real deal.

Some foods can mimic opiates and some people are more sensitive to such things. For a variety of reasons...

You’ll most probably have to go ketogenic for a time to kick the addiction.

Modern cabinets are bigger to accommodate larger plates so things are about 25% larger nowadays give or take.

Also tomatoes, and noodles, aren't from Italy, Pinapples aren't from Hawaii and peppers aren't from Thailand. All are from the America's except the noodles which are Asian.

Definitely. one would be to try to eat healthy on weekdays, then on Friday night binge on either tainted pork or spoiled chicken. The resulting food poisoning will keep you from eating much over the weekend, when you'd otherwise be pounding down wings & pizza, washing them down with copious amounts of cheap beer.

This is sage advice. It's very hard to do when you're addicted to carbs but try it, even just for a day. You'll fall off but try it again and go three days, then seven, then thirty. When you have able to go for prolonged periods sugar free you will be able to overcome the sugar addiction.

Also, I recently discovered that my binge eating and yo yo dieting is more habit than anything. Once you're carb free for a week or so, your hunger will diminish and you can control your cravings better...

Kick the bread and sugar.
That's a start but the physiological response to bread (gluten) is somewhat mimiced when rice, corn, soy, and even dairy are consumed. Your advice can work for a lot of folks but this person sounds far beyond that stage. To really "kick" sugar you're talking dropping out carrots and a whole bunch of other stuff most people don't consider. That's why keto is more likely required here.

JMO over the internet...
