FSU soccer to face No. 1 UNC on Sunday

The third-ranked Florida State women's soccer team (7-0-0, 2-0-0) will have a great opportunity in front of a national television audience on Sunday afternoon as they take on No. 1 North Carolina (7-0-3, 2-0-0) at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kickoff is set for noon and can be seen live on ESPNU.

Last Time Out
Onyi Echegini scored a goal in the 84th minute allowing the No. 3 Florida State women's soccer team to survive in a 3-2 win over Syracuse on Thursday night. The Seminoles dominated with 32 shots compared to Syracuse's two shots. The Seminoles also had 19 shots on goal.

FSU vs. UNC as Top 5 Matchup
Sunday will be the 11th time that Florida State and North Carolina will face off with both teams inside the top 5. FSU holds a 6-4 record when both teams are in the top 5. There has never been a matchup between the two teams where at least one team wasn't ranked in the top 25.

Nation's Best Vs. UNC
Despite the record, the Seminoles and Tar Heels have been very even in recent history. In the last nine meetings the teams are dead even with a 4-4-1 record and each team has scored 14 goals in those nine matches.

The Seminoles have a combined record of 12-31-5 against the Tar Heels, The 12 victories against North Carolina is the most of any other program in the country.

FSU has 17 combined wins and draws against UNC all-time, and other than Notre Dame (10 – seven wins and three draws), Virginia (9 – four wins and five draws), Duke (7 - five wins and two draws), Santa Clara (6 - six wins) and Stanford (6 - two wins and four draws), no other school in the nation has more than six combined wins and draws against North Carolina.

FSU vs. No. 1
FSU has played 21 games all-time against the No. 1 team in the country. The Seminoles are 5-14-2 all-time against No. 1 but are 3-3-1 in its last seven games against No. 1. The Seminoles last beat a top-ranked team on Nov. 7, 2021, against No. 1 Virginia in the ACC Championship game.

Perfection
FSU is off to one of the hottest starts in the country as they are one of two teams to hold a perfect record with no losses and no ties. FSU joins Liberty as the only team to have a perfect record this season.

Comeback Kids
FSU pulled off an impressive comeback against No. 8 Clemson. After the Tigers scored two goals in the first 20 minutes, the Seminoles rallied to score four unanswered goals to defeat the Tigers. It was the Seminoles largest comeback since Sept. 18, 2014, against Connecticut. It was just the sixth time in school history that FSU has come back from two goals to win a game.

The Seminoles had to come back against Syracuse as they trailed 2-1 at halftime. FSU rallied with two goals in the second half to take the match. This is the first time since the 2011 season that FSU has had back-to-back comeback wins.

Dominating the Second Half
The Seminoles have been unstoppable in the final 45 minutes of their first six matches. In the second half this season, FSU is outscoring their opponents 15-1 compared to just a 6-5 advantage in the first half. Under Head Coach Brian Pensky, the Seminoles have outscored their opponents 56-11 in the second half.

Road Warriors
Florida State is a perfect 5-0 on the road and is the only team in the country to win two games on the road against top 10 opponents. FSU defeated No. 9 TCU, 2-0 and beat No. 8 Clemson, 4-2. FSU has won six consecutive road matches dating back to last season which is tied for the second-longest streak in school history.
