FSU baseball and softball have been able to add a third assistant now as a result of the new NCAA rule

FSU sports information:

Head softball coach Lonni Alameda announced that Kaleigh Rafter has been promoted to assistant coach after spending the past two seasons as the Seminoles' volunteer assistant coach. In the past two seasons, Rafter has helped the Seminoles in the areas of catching, hitting and bullpen analytics. She was also the Seminoles' primary first base coach. Rafter is now the Seminoles' third assistant coach joining Travis Wilson and Troy Cameron.

"We are so excited to have the ability to hire one of our own in Coach Rafter. Having former players on our staff that wore the jersey then leave to gather some quality experience and return to help grow the program that grew them is why our culture sustains," Alameda said. "Rafter has been integral as a volunteer coach in this program and assisted with numerous areas, including catching, hitting and bullpen analytics. She also thrives in the international area and continues to help grow our sport by moving the needle with the international game leading Team Canada. We are fortunate to have a great mind joining our staff full time, and we look forward to the continued growth of our Seminole family."

Rafter has been an integral part in the development of two-time All-ACC catcher in Michaela Edenfield. In two seasons with the Seminoles, Edenfield has hit 29 home runs and drove in 109 runs for FSU. In 2023, Rafter helped the Seminoles finish top 25 nationally in runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage while also leading the country in doubles.

After starting her career at Detroit Mercy, Rafter transferred to Florida State for the 2009 season following the 2008 Olympics where she played for Team Canada under Coach Alameda. After putting together a First Team All-ACC season for the Seminoles, Rafter became a volunteer coach for the Seminoles in three separate stints (2009-10, 2012-13, 2015) before becoming an assistant coach at the University of New York at Buffalo during the 2016 season. She then took an assistant coaching position at the University of Virginia until 2019.

Rafter has also had great success in the international game. Rafter is currently the head coach for Team Canada after helping the Canadians to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a player. Rafter's international career lasted for 15 years with Team Canada and was their primary catcher.
