The Florida State Women’s Golf Team opens its fall 2023 season as it travels to play in the ninth annual ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M at the Royal Golf Club (Sept. 11-13) in Lake Elmo, Minn. The event is considered to be one of the top tournaments in college golf and features 12 of the strongest Division I women’s programs in the nation. Following its fifth place finish in the 2023 NCAA Championships Finals, and three consecutive top-10 national finishes, Coach Amy Bond and her program have earned their place among the best teams in collegiate golf.

"Playing in the ANNIKA is a great opportunity for our program," said Bond. "Our play will show us the things we have to improve on in the first event of the the fall. This tournament includes seven of the top-10 teams in the nation, including last season's national champion. We'll play against some of the top teams including Duke, Virginia and Wake Forest from the ACC along with South Carolina and Texas A&M from the SEC, and Oregon which won the NCAA Championship in 2022."

Of the 12 teams in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate field in 2023, six (Baylor, Duke, Oregon, San Jose State, Texas and Wake Forest) have either won an NCAA Championship, or finished as the runner-up.

The Seminoles are led by a pair of returning First-Team All-American selections in Charlotte Heath and Lottie Woad. With Heath and Woad in their lineup, the Seminoles are the only team in the nation with two returning First-Team All-Americans in their lineup for the 2023-24 season. Heath and Woad averaged 70.56 and 71.06 strokes, respectively, to lead the Seminoles. Also in Florida State’s lineup are senior Alice Hodge, junior Kaylah Williams and freshman Bella Bugg.

While Bugg makes her collegiate debut, the returning members of Florida State’s lineup have played in 79 career events with three (Woad, 2, Heath, 3; Hodge, 14) ranked among the top 15 golfers in school history.

As two of the golfers on the initial ANNIKA Award Watch List of the 2023-24 season, Heath and Woad are two of the top, and most respected golfers in the nation.

“College golf holds a special place in my heart, which is why I love returning to Minneapolis every year for the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M,” Annika Sorenstam told seminoles.com. “I know we have a lot of great talent participating this year including Charlotte Heath and Lottie Woad from FSU. It will be fun to watch these top players battle it out in the first event of the season and find out who will receive an exemption into The ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican in November.”

A member of the championship team will be awarded a sponsor exemption to the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge championship at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. (Nov. 6-12, 2023).

Beginning with the inaugural ANNIKA tournament – the 2009 ANNIKA Invitational USA – 87 ANNIKA event alumnae have earned LPGA cards. Three of the five 2021 major champions – Patty Tavatanakit, Yuka Saso and Nelly Korda – played in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate during their collegiate careers.

The Royal Golf Club features The Queen’s Nine, a front nine designed by Sorenstam herself. The back nine, named The King’s Nine, was designed by Arnold Palmer. The tournament also will feature a junior day at the Royal Golf Club Par 3 course and College-Am with Minneapolis-based Fortune 500 companies, offering playing and networking opportunities to both college and junior players.

Wake Forest enters the 2023 ANNIKA Intercollegiate as the defending champion. Virginia’s Amanda Sambach returns to defend her 2023 individual title as she shot a career-best 9-under par 207 to capture her first of two career championships.
