Gov admits no data showing post recovery spread

Holy deliberately misleading info. I'm sorry but anyone believing this, spreading this or supporting this should feel absolutely foolish and ashamed after being taken advantage of like that.

I know that at least some of you are better than this. Anyone who took 30 seconds to read the chriteria required to produce this records request (it's located in the damn tweet lol) would have realized by now that this account and the NYC lawyer who filed the request are purposefully spreading misinformation. They are doing it for no reason at all, and y'all got duped. The chriteria is so specific and unlikely that of course there won't be records. They are requesting:

Documents reflecting any documented case of an individual who: (1) never received a COVID-19 vaccine; (2) was infected with COVID-19 once, recovered, and then later became infected again; and (3) transmitted SARS-CoV-2 to another person when reinfected.

And then they turn around and change the wording of the tweet to make it seem like there are no instances of something less specific happening. The people who start things like this are terrible people. Reinfections occur. It's a highly contagious virus no matter how many times you want to catch it. Smh.

Lol. It seems specific to me. You’re pushing vaccines on those who have had CoVid. That criteria is clear. The fact they can’t show it is simple evidence that they have not bothered to track what many think is very relevant data. You can tell us it’s not. And I happen to respect you a lot as a poster here. But this doesn’t have to be complicated.

Yes. I disagree with the current government's firing of people who don't get the vaccine. However I don't think there's any case anywhere where it can be documented somebody specifically gave covid to somebody else.

This. If people could look past their own “agendas” we would be so much better off.
Wild. We shouldn’t expect the CDC to have any documentation for a single case like the one described in its letter, yet OSHA is okay to ignore NI. Got it.

And I'm explaining how simple it is. The three criteria need to be met and that was not the case. Nothing else needs to be said about it imo and it's not newsworthy that one person who has been reinfected has never pass the virus on the 2nd time to another person to get reinfected. It's all a very silly thing.

I've thought all along that in the end the countries that let Covid run its course would come out the same as those that didn't minus all the economic pain. It would be interesting to see the numbers for the same countries for percent infected and total cases/deaths over the whole pandemic.

Its not complicated at all. The vaccine is the driver here. Why are they not doing anti body tests to see who has been infected and who has immunity? Even a study to see how the numbers shake out. Am I missing something?

The misinformation comes from the tweet. The government's team did exactly what they always do.
misinformation by writing "after recovering" vs. "infected again"? I'm trying to think of a scenario where a person with NI who is not reinfected could pass covid along. Can't really think of anything, but it's early... maybe the request could've been slightly broader (a person "infected by covid a first time ("initial infection"), then recovered from initial infection, and after recovering from initial covid infection, regardless of any reinfection . . ."?).

Admittedly, I could be missing something that you're seeing. If the first sentence of my response is how you think it's misleading, what scenario am I missing? If not, can you elaborate on how it's misleading? Not trying to be argumentative, could be missing something

they are through blood donors. at least in the US and the UK that is the case.

see page 25 of the UK report

Misleading…..much? First of all, 4 months of recent data is what we call in science ‘truncating the range’. Go onto Worldometer and look at Sweden’s data from last spring. Just as much of a shit show as anywhere else. Second, 70% of their population has been vaccinated at least once. Who gave Dr. Eli his degree?

Question—which person is less likely for reinfection?
A. unvaxxed, gets Covid infection, then recovers, or
B. Fully vaxxed, then gets covid infection, then recovers.

seems natural immunity would be more robust without having the vaccine, but im not a doctor

It’s estimated that infection with the virus that causes COVID-19 and vaccination both result in a low risk of another infection with a similar variant for at least 6 months.

But because it’s possible to get reinfected and COVID-19 can cause severe medical complications, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people who have already had COVID-19 get a COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition, COVID-19 vaccination might offer better protection than getting sick with COVID-19. A recent study showed that unvaccinated people who already had COVID-19 are more than twice as likely as fully vaccinated people to get reinfected with COVID-19.

Recent research also suggests that people who got COVID-19 in 2020 and then received mRNA vaccines produce very high levels of antibodies that are likely effective against current and, possibly, future variants. Some scientists call this hybrid immunity. Further research is needed.

It is. But I think anyone would have to admit that the real long term answer on natural vs vaccine vs hybrid immunity absolutely requires time to pass to see how they compare. Wouldn’t they?
I think that’s right. I guess my question was whether you received the full benefit of natural immunity if you get vaccinated prior to NI.

I get it. I had covid then got vaccinated. I hope every day it doesn’t turn out that getting vaccine lowered benefit of NI. I didn’t want to get the vaccine so I will be pretty pissed if I hurt my existing defenses.

None of this is susceptible to actions based on hypothesis. We need to have the time to pass to see if we’re covered down the road long term or not. It’s why it’s so frustrating we don’t include numbers on NI columns on every single chart that shows impact of vaccine or lack of vaccine on cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

I can’t think of a single honest/well-intended reason for them to leave this out.

If I follow, you are wondering if people who get breakthrough infections have a weaker immune response. Is that correct?

We know that there is a boost in immunity when receiving the vaccine after being infected. Interesting question about reversing that order tho, and I certainly don't have that answer. Per this newly released NPR article:

So what about a person's level of protection for the opposite scenario — when a fully vaccinated person later has a breakthrough infection? "You would presumably have superior immunity at this point," says Dr. Gregory Poland, director of the Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group.

Most likely, this brand of hybrid immunity would rival what's seen in people who recovered from COVID-19 and then got vaccinated, but there could be subtle differences in the details of the immune response, says Wherry. "But these things that might be different may not matter for any given person to ward off the next infection."

All of this needs to be studied to arrive at a more conclusive answer.

Per this preprint:

ABSTRACT

Background
A cluster of over a thousand infections with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant was identified in a predominantly fully vaccinated population in Provincetown, Massachusetts in July 2021. Immune responses in breakthrough infections with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant remain to be defined.

Methods
Humoral and cellular immune responses were assessed in 35 vaccinated individuals who were tested for SARS-CoV-2 in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health outbreak investigation.

Results
Vaccinated individuals who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 demonstrated substantially higher antibody responses than vaccinated individuals who tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, including 28-fold higher binding antibody titers and 34-fold higher neutralizing antibody titers against the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. Vaccinated individuals who tested positive also showed 4.4-fold higher Spike-specific CD8+ T cell responses against the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant than vaccinated individuals who tested negative.

Conclusions
Fully vaccinated individuals developed robust anamnestic antibody and T cell responses following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. These data suggest important immunologic benefits of vaccination in the context of breakthrough infections.

Ugh new variant is causing international concern. Stock market is down. Nations are stopping flights to and from South Africa. Fears of lockdowns in certain countries.

Britain’s health secretary said, “Early indications show that this variant may be more transmissible than the Delta variant and current vaccines may be less effective against it."

The new variant, B.1.1.529, has a “very unusual constellation of mutations,” with more than 30 in the spike protein alone, according to Tulio de Oliveira, director of the KwaZulu-Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform.

On the ACE2 receptor — the protein that helps to create an entry point for the coronavirus to infect human cells — the new variant has 10 mutations. In comparison, the Beta variant has three and the Delta variant two, Mr. de Oliveira said.

The variant shares similarities with the Lambda and Beta variants, which are associated with an innate evasion of immunity, said Richard Lessells, an infectious diseases specialist at the KwaZulu-Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform.

“All these things are what give us some concern that this variant might have not just enhanced transmissibility, so spread more efficiently, but might also be able to get around parts of the immune system and the protection we have in our immune system,” Dr. Lessells said.

Purely for family. My wife lost her dad early covid. Not of or with, but during the shut down. He had CJD and died within 6 weeks but my wife couldn’t see him due to covid rules. It was an awful loss. Totally unexpected.

Her mom lives in tally. They are super close. Like they talk every single day and she’d see her at least a few times a week. Mom/step dad are covid crazy. It was clear we would not be able to see them if we didn’t get vaxxed. We didn’t want to get vaxxed because we didn’t need it, but they wouldn’t see us if we didn’t. I wasnt going to not get vaxxed and be between she and her mom. It was that simple.

What’s sad is that despite us being vaxxed, now the standard is “we don’t take covid seriously every day so we’re too much a risk.

Yesterday my wife tried to bring them breakfast because we did breakfast with kids since we were going to a big dinner later. Her mom told her to turn around and not even come with it because they could not be safe with food we brought. It almost destroyed the day because it made her so sad.

The isolation for many is just awful.

Thank you, you certainly don't owe me an explanation, I was curious because a lot of people have said what you said and been in similar positions. I agree, it's unfortunate that so many people have chosen to isolate, it seems to be a bigger threat in many cases than the virus itself.
I'm also sorry that despite your efforts to comply with you inlaws requests, you are still unable to interact because they moved the goalpost. Seems like a common theme surrounding this virus.

No problem. Happy to explain.

It does suck though. I hate seeing my wife so sad. I hate the idea of them isolating another year or more and worry about something happening to them and having lost the last years they had.

I have another friend who did that. She and her ex never stopped living together. When covid hit they totally isolated in a mobile home in wakulla. Didn’t leave at all for months and months. 8 months in, he had a stroke and died. Dude absolutely wasted the last 8 months of his life. I don’t want that for them. Or others.

@GbrNole I know you have been monitoring the UK and Europe pretty closely.

UK HSA said the weekly R number has risen and is likely to be above one. Unfortunate because things were looking good around mid summer.

$15 drug gets COVID patients off oxygen support in under week – study

Fenofibrate could dramatically shorten the treatment time for severe COVID patients.

Fourteen out of 15 severe COVID-19 patients who were treated in an investigator-initiated interventional open-label clinical study of the drug TriCor (fenofibrate) didn’t require oxygen support within a week of treatment and were released from the hospital, according to the results of a new Hebrew University of Jerusalem study.

Fenofibrate is an FDA-approved oral medication. The results were published on Researchsquare.com and are currently under peer review.

Specifically, the team that was led by HU’s Prof. Yaakov Nahmias carried out the study at Israel’s Barzilai Medical Center in coordination with the hospital’s head of the Infectious Disease Unit, Prof. Shlomo Maayan, and with support from Abbott Laboratories.

The 15 treated patients all had pneumonia and required oxygen support. They were also older with multiple comorbidities, ranging from diabetes and obesity to high blood pressure.

In addition to standard of care, the patients were given 145 mg/day of fenofibrate for 10 days.

“The results were dramatic,” Nahmias told The Jerusalem Post. “Progressive inflammation markers, which are the hallmark of deteriorative COVID-19, dropped within 48 hours of treatment. Moreover, 14 of the 15 severe patients didn’t require oxygen support within a week of treatment.” The 15th patient was off oxygen within 10 days.

When looking at the data on other similar severe patients, less than 30% of them on average are removed from oxygen support within a week. In other words, fenofibrate could dramatically shorten the treatment time for severe COVID patients.

“We know these kinds of patients deteriorate really fast, develop a cytokine storm in five to seven days and that it can take weeks to treat them and for them to get better,” Nahmias said. “We gave these patients fenofibrate and the study shows inflammation dropped incredibly fast. They did not seem to develop a cytokine storm at all.”

Cytokine storms are aggressive inflammatory responses to illness.

they dropped steeply but only for about three weeks and hit a middling level and have slowly been creeping up from there. it never fell off a cliff like it did in florida after the peak.

britain only just recently gained mainstream access to monoclonal antibody therapies though in late September and as it stands they are only being given to hospitalized patients which is outside of their most effective use.

i don't know that is substantive to the uptick but the weather sure is getting to be utter crap now and people are mostly indoors.
