Gov admits no data showing post recovery spread

If I follow, you are wondering if people who get breakthrough infections have a weaker immune response. Is that correct?

We know that there is a boost in immunity when receiving the vaccine after being infected. Interesting question about reversing that order tho, and I certainly don't have that answer. Per this newly released NPR article:

So what about a person's level of protection for the opposite scenario — when a fully vaccinated person later has a breakthrough infection? "You would presumably have superior immunity at this point," says Dr. Gregory Poland, director of the Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group.

Most likely, this brand of hybrid immunity would rival what's seen in people who recovered from COVID-19 and then got vaccinated, but there could be subtle differences in the details of the immune response, says Wherry. "But these things that might be different may not matter for any given person to ward off the next infection."

All of this needs to be studied to arrive at a more conclusive answer.

Per this preprint:

ABSTRACT

Background
A cluster of over a thousand infections with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant was identified in a predominantly fully vaccinated population in Provincetown, Massachusetts in July 2021. Immune responses in breakthrough infections with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant remain to be defined.

Methods
Humoral and cellular immune responses were assessed in 35 vaccinated individuals who were tested for SARS-CoV-2 in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health outbreak investigation.

Results
Vaccinated individuals who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 demonstrated substantially higher antibody responses than vaccinated individuals who tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, including 28-fold higher binding antibody titers and 34-fold higher neutralizing antibody titers against the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. Vaccinated individuals who tested positive also showed 4.4-fold higher Spike-specific CD8+ T cell responses against the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant than vaccinated individuals who tested negative.

Conclusions
Fully vaccinated individuals developed robust anamnestic antibody and T cell responses following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. These data suggest important immunologic benefits of vaccination in the context of breakthrough infections.
Yes, that’s my question. I assume infection then vax likely produces more robust immunity at least for a while. But in the reverse scenario, I have doubts, particularly with waning immunity from the vax. If you don’t have fully developed NI, I have trouble seeing why a healthy young adult would get the vax prior to infection.

Sure, because this wasn’t front and center under his watch. And amazing how they got the rest of the world to play along just for “ratings”. SMH.
Not sure if you are following what I'm saying, so go look for yourself: CNN ans MSNBC's ratings plummeted since Trump left office. No where did I say anyone is playing along just for ratings, but if you don't think the media uses scare tactics to drive ratings, you live under a rock.

i know what the media uses to draw viewers and clicks. I also know this has nothing to do with the former President. Front page of Fox News just confirms that.

“New variant likely evades immunities . . . such as the monoclonal antibody treatments . . . and, yes, even the vaccinations.” Later on, “everyone should get vaccinated and the booster”

No mention of natural immunity, though term “immunities” seems intended to eliminate concept of natural immunity.
Perhaps we’re better off with treatments that help your body fight infection vs prevention or preinfection injections (other than common sense, decent person methods like washing your hands, staying home when sick, etc).

Keep in mind it's not confirmed that Omicron can escape immunity provided by vaccinations. Scientists are saying it's a possibility based on the molecular structure and certain key mutations that it could, but that has not been verified. Pfizer and Moderna are ready to alter their vaccine formulations if necessary. Also, it is possible that this variant could escape previously effective treatments, as well.

What is known from the ground is:

South Africa’s Medical Chief: Omicron Variant Has Only Produced “Very, Very Mild Cases”

Why isn't all the media outlets pushing this story as well? I guess they would rather scare everyone with a new horrific strain that oh by the way we know nothing about other than what were not reporting. I wonder why skeptics exist?

Happened to stumble upon this. Not sure how accurate, but it seems logical.

No, jumping the gun as you are suggesting is why skeptics exist. Then if something is different factually then statements are retracted and recommendations are adjusted and everyone gets their panties in a wad. The variant will be studied and confirmed to do this or not do that. There have only been 199 confirmed cases and it will take time to draw conclusions. Please be patient.

mRNA vaccines can be developed rapidly. They essentially just need the "shell" of the pathogen (which they have) so that they can recreate it (which they have probably already done).

Jumping the gun? That's ridiculous, I just saw an interesting article and posted it for everyone to read.

Yes, jumping the gun. Also, I've not seen any article in your posts, but I wasn't responding to any article anyway.

I watched the national news tonight and they reported very comprehensively on what we know about the variant including it's virulence so far.

I assumed you at least would have given me an article lmao. Seems like the logical thing to do since you brought it up.
My point was we should take a breath and wait to see what this variant actually does.
Highlight the headline, right click, and click search. Easy peasy for Mr. Research.

I said we need to find out more about the variant and not "jump the gun" about reporting what we don't know. Then you said we should "what this variant actually does." You agreed with me not sure why you are getting testy, guy.

You posted a headline and called it interesting. It's not on me to do your work.

Jumping the gun is printing scores of stories telling the world how "horrific" and possibly this and that the variant is then stating it will be weeks until they know anything. Meanwhile the only true information from the ground is saying it presents mild symptoms. Like you said there are 199 cases so why not say of the 199 known cases the symptoms seem to be mild? Speculation instills fear, info from the ground is the best info so they should use it and avoid speculating on worse case scenarios. But we all know they have a narrative with this which drives the skepticism.

Or pump out the "new" vaccine they already have ready to go for this one. More and new vaccines = more money.

Becuase then you can't declare a state of emergency. And damnit we leave for NYC a week from tomorrow. I hope they don't shut crap down. I am already dreading the idea of a mask.

the same applies for viral vector vaccines.

the same applies for viral vector vaccines.
Those are also developed using live-attenuated or inactivated viruses or a pseudovirus system which involves tedious and time-consuming steps and has become a bottleneck for responding to an epidemic or pandemic caused by newly emerging viruses.

last i checked it didn't seem to hinder AZ or JJ in rolling out their efforts. They basically did the same thing as pfizer and moderna except rather than dumping it in an mrna wrapper they stuffed it in a muted adenovirus.

efficacy is obviously different between the different manufacturers but the time to create the initial batches was no too dissimilar. viral vector was the go to rapid vaccine approach with approval and actual prior human use until they unshackled mrna, for better or for worse.

Right and I was never speaking towards anything other than mRNA vaccines. You brought up the others 🙂

Anyway, you bring up a good point about the other vaccines. Personally, I have never advocated for AZ or J&J, and at times I've been against them. I made sure that when I got my initial doses that I was able to get an mRNA vaccine instead of J&J, because I am reasonably certain they will be both safe and effective.

The point of the original response is that mRNA vaccines can be developed rapidly and one of the "hard truths" that the doctor in that tweet forgot to mention is that he doesn't understand mRNA technologies. The mRNA vaccines have already been tweaked due to other variants.

Push it to 2022 if you can, it's terrible up here. New mayor starts then but will take time to clean up the pile of shit this last loser leaves behind.

Regeneron says their monoclonal antibody treatment may not work as well against Omicron. Moderna's CEO believes there will be "a material drop" in the company's vaccine efficacy. If true, this would be particularly bad once the variant begins to infect older populations.

BioNTech's CEO said people vaccinated with Comirnaty will most likely be protected from severe illness if infected with Omicron.

How many of these regular booster and variant boosters will people be suggested to take before they start to turn them down?

@Dhersh as a big vaccine proponent, is there a point for you where maybe your opinion changes?

COVID vaccines still have a long way to go. In order for vaccines to remain most effective, we can't let it become a flu-like situation where there are so many variants that we literally have to guess which ones will be most prevalent in a given year. That said, there will likely be at least a 2nd iteration of the mRNA vaccines. Though they could be a year or two off, they will presumably be more effective.

I would stop being vaccinated when it is inconvenient to get vaccinated. People act like they are so inconvenienced by having to go get a free shot on their own time and terms. Sounds like a bunch of bitching to me. COVID vaccines will likely become an annual routine just like the flu shot. mRNA technology will allow for all mRNA shots to be combined into a single shot. I will visit my doctor for my physical like I do every year, and they will give me a single injection. It doesn't hurt, my life isn't altered in any way shape or form - not then or in the future - and I am protected on some level.
