Has anyone used a tour company to visit Russia?

Looking for recs. I've found a tour company that looks pretty good ( Travel All Russia - https://www.travelallrussia.com/) but was wondering about others. Also curious if anyone's visited on their own without the use of a tour company. Experiences, opinions, etc. I've traveled for work and personal time around the world quite frequently but I'm just wanting to have someone else do all the planning this time.

One of my sister's HS friends used to be a Russian tour guide for one of the larger companies. I THINK she still does individual tours as a one on one guide but I'm not sure. If you're interested I can see if she still does it.

I would imagine that would be better than a large tour group. I know I get irritated when on the cruise excursions because of idiots slowing down the group.

This would be a private tour that I've linked. They do offer small groups as well (around 20 max) but I'm not interested in that.

Yes, I have - and it sucked. They do not want Americans there & they make sure it takes a long time and a lot of money to get an entry visa. Last summer my company spent over $900 just to get my visa, and I told enough lies to rack up some serious jail time had I been caught - all to attend a conference for a week.

The lies I told painted me as a garden-variety tourist there to see sights - so for you they wouldn't be lies. But it still took over a month and way too much money just to get into the country. If you go as a tourist, you definitely want to go as a group, it would be painfully boring to go there on your own.

Red Square was very impressive. The rest of Moscow, not so much.

That pic looks straight outta Epcot. Meh, I have no interest in going all the way over there just for that.

I have no interest in going back, BUT...

The entirety of Red Square looks like they just scrubbed it down with a toothbrush, unbelievably well-kept..and it's HUGE.

I have zero interest in going to Russia, besides red square, what else is there to see?
