Here we go again? Hurricane Maria

It's on a bad line. Let's hope it doesn't mature.

Didn't we just play this game?

The models show it turning north after Hispaniola but, the accuracy is not as good that far out.

What happened to K and L?

Katia hit Mexico and then dissipated. Lee is still in the Atlantic but isn't expected to hit land anywhere before it breaks up....hopefully. And Norma is already out there just getting started and may become a cyclone hitting Baja California.

Too early to say if eastern seaboard is in play....PR is going to get hammered though.

Yes on Virgin Islands, again PR looks like a direct hit

Too far out for sure Friday should know what's up

man we don't need that. We're still dealing with issues from Irma. Our building is full of squirrel cage fans and dehumidifier machines the size of a wine fridge. They are loud as heck and make the whole place feel like a sauna.

The European model looks best for the mainland miss, NHC is thinking a more westward trend which could be bad for the mid Atlantic states. That High in the Atlantic will be the major influence, if it holds strength and position, Maria should be a fish spinner, if it weakens and/or drifts westward, watch out.

I kinda liked having no power....no information on storms, politics, drops in football polls. Life was so much simpler back then. *SIGH*
Ive got a timeshare on Barbuda that isnt occupied, you're welcome to it next week! . Maid hasnt answered my calls, so you might have a some light dusting, etc (I'll give you a warchant bro-count), but otherwise it's all yours.

I feel like I got lackadaisical about hurricane season because they have been mild for a while now. Been 10 years since 2 cat 5's in the same year. This season has been nuts but, lately it's been the exception and not the rule.

Cat 5 now. Dominica is done for. PR next. This season is becoming biblical.
The eye literally bisected the island, making it asymmetrical because of interaction with land and the island mountains. Many times this will help the storm grow because of eye reformation. Jose looking to give the coastal areas of the east some wind and rain.

Have a feeling the reports for Dominica will be bad. Based on their prime minister's words this morning they are worried on loss of life and hoping it not to be bad. Reports of almost all buildings damaged and no roofs. This thing went from Cat 1 to Cat 5 in a day and hit them. Not much time to prepare. Barbuda after similar hit from Irma was uninhabitable. But they had 1700 people while Dominica has 70,000+. Not good.

Looks to be holding together for direct hit of Puerto Rico. Some fun facts on Weather Channel just a bit ago: If it was a State, PR would have the second highest population density per square mile, behind New Jersey and ahead of Rhode Island. They have 3.5 million people crammed on island smaller than Connecticut.

Gotta wonder if, after this hurricane season, we see significant long term depopulation of several of these Caribbean islands.

After getting run through by 3 storms in a 2.5 week span and projections of sustained warmer seas I don't know that I'd want to stick around and if I'm a company in hospitality/tourism, I'm not sure that I'd want to sink a bunch of capital into the region just to see it go unused 3-4 weeks a year and badly damaged once every 4-5 years.

This maybe one of the larger population shifts of our lifetimes, esp with close proximity to the US.

In a few years I maybe saying the same thing about the entire state of Florida. As a (transplant) New Yorker, I know our time isn't far off either.

Bacardi, you're a nice guy on these boards but I gotta say you and all your New Yorker buds need to do the I95NB shuffle.
You can post there too. Or just stop in Carolina like the growing crowd of "halfbacks".
Too damn many of "youse" people - @damyankee
