A friend is in PT school. She was notified of a possible clinical rotation at Walter Reed (it's a competitive rotation, so she has to apply, background check, etc, and there's no guarantee she would get it).

But she's mainly concerned about housing. She'd need a place to stay from about mid-September to mid-December. Cost is an issue (and is pretty much the only reason why she's hesitant to apply). Is there affordable temp housing or a reliable way to find a safe roommate situation? Or know anybody who has a basement for rent for a few months?

I bet Russ has a crawlspace.

C'mon Wendy. You've been around here long enough to know that he's gonna want pics before he can answer. ;)

No pics, but she can handle a firearm, listens to death metal, and teaches women's self defense classes. And you would never know any of that by looking at her.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. That's way around on the Maryland side of the area. I'm not familiar with that area at all. Maybe @montconole @Hopkins Medicine or some others could offer more guidance. I think there's some others from Montgomery county that might know. Sorry!

There are multiple "Walter Reed"s in the D.C. area. I'm aware of ones in Arlington, VA, D.C., and Bethesda, MD. Maybe you could clarify where.

It's not going to be cheap near any of them for decent, safe housing. Roommate would be the way to go, but I have no idea the best way to find that. I used Craigslist when I first moved to Tampa to find a furnished place month-to-month with a roommate. I found a fellow Seminole and it worked out fine until I got a permanent place.

If she hasn't already, there is a DPT student facebook group and they keep a current spreadsheet for student housing. She could also reach out to the GW PT program for assistance from their students.

That's a good idea. We actually both interviewed at GW (where we met) and they're really nice. Thank you!

Will she have a car? If she can’t fibd anything close to Bethesda and doesn’t have a car, she would need to be near a metro stop. I don’t know anyone with a basement rental available but will keep an ear open.
