I’ll never forget driving on the interstate and getting a phone call from the Tallahassee Democrat wanting me to comment on my good friend and former FSU roommate Robert Kelly’s death in Afghanistan. There’s no good way to find something out like that but I think that might’ve been the worst.
Rob graduated from FSU with a 4.0 but instead of going out and getting a job he wanted to follow in his dad’s (Trump’s Chief of staff John Kelly) footsteps and join the Marines. On this day 8 years ago he was killed on the front lines in Sangin, the deadliest battleground of the War in Afghanistan.
