I’m not an insider with secret sources, but I think the holdup with Briles is less about the contract terms and more about feminist forces within the university pushing back on the hire. FSU isn’t a private organization or even an NFL team. It’s so much bigger than just an athletic department.
Maybe we’ll never really know what happened. Or maybe it will all get cleared up today and so really, who cares. For me personally, the fact that he’s been investigated multiple times and by different schools is good enough. But I bet that’s not universally true inside the university.
