Which is too bad as it was distracting me from the misery of having to watch the Trickett and Kelly Comedy 3 Hours.

Interestingly he is 22-12, won SEC East his first two years.
Sure, they are 3-4 this year but barely lost to Texas A&M and LSU and could be 5-2.
Georgia is really good this year. Michigan was their toughest opening game since 1693.

I can only conclude......

......that was him with the shark.

Does not matter who the HC is at Florida. I cannot see us beating them this year. Not with the team we have.

Florida and Delaware State are the only two wins I see for us this year. We’re going to get Louisville last year smoked by Clemson and Syracuse looks better than us at the moment. But Florida is worse than us.

We’re at #3 in Strength of Schedule while Florida even with Michigan is at #28. Facing those schedules we’re 113th in Total Offense while Florida is at 112th, so basically a tie but in Total Defense we’re 31st and Florida is 40th.

When you break it down further it looks better for us. We’re 61st in passing yards per completion while UF is 101st. In the old marquee Muschamp metric, Time of Possession we’re 44th and Florida 55th. We’re 26th in passing yards allowed while UF is 34th. In scoring Defense we’re 50th and UF is 66th. Etc... Basically in every metric except turnovers we’re better than UF despite having a far tougher schedule.

I was talking to my wife and a certain writer who I won’t name but has to “put up” with seeing Jimbo almost daily yesterday at Brewfest and I basically said while I could see FSU somehow coalescing just in time to squeak by Syracuse and then beat Clemson in a giant miracle upset and use that motivation to win out and get to a bowl just to keep the streak alive, but I said I honestly don’t want that. I kind of want to lose out (other than Florida and Delaware State) to force Jimbo to make changes specifically Charles Kelly, Trickett, Dawsey, and Miller. Unfortunately, unnamed writer is convinced that while Jimbo MIGHT shuffle people around and maybe fire some others, Trickett is too close of a personal friend so he will NEVER be moved. Which is hugely unfortunate in my mind as I think Trickett is the biggest problem in the staff. Miller and Dawsey are probably bad enough they should be removed and Kelly statistically isn’t doing poorly just underwhelming based on our overall talent imo, but our OLine has been a problem almost every year. Even in the championship season it wasn’t great, just not so terrible we lost with everyone else around.

Kelly isn't doing poorly statistically? Look at our total d numbers before and since.

Total yds Points per game
2017 31st 50th
2016 26th 43rd
2015 16th 5th
2014 77th 30th
2013 2nd 1st
2012 3rd 6th
2011 3rd 4th
2010 77th 20th
2009 116th 94th
2008 10th 32nd
2007 34th 31st

So like he said, his defenses haven’t been lighting it up other than 2015 but they haven’t been terrible. Even his worst year (the first in 2014) he was bad on overall yards but not really on points. This is NOT the Gators O level bad, Kelly has been what I would call adequate regardless of what the blogs and fans say.

Which of these things is not like the others? What happened that year? Did the d ever get within the top 10 again? He took a farrari and turned it into a civic.

The next year it was 5th in points per game (which I think is more important) under Kelly.

I never said he was great, because three of four years he’s been under our expectations. But he’s not so terrible I would demand his head. Politely ask and see who was available? Sure

Terrible is in the results. When the game is in the line his defense always fails. When the stage is brightest his team is at their worst. You KNOW his defense will give up that 3rd and 20 - they always do.
He's garbage and his unit plays lost and with no heart.

Not only that, look at the fourth quarter meltdowns...UNC and Clemson last year, Miami and Louisville this year. Those are four critical losses that came down to our inability to hold the opposing offense on their final drive.

That’s why statistics is your friend. Not all of that is what Kelly is or is not doing, some of that is because of who and what is on the other side. You just named offenses led by the number two overall pick last year, the guy who won the Heisman last year and is still good this year even if his team is garbage and the guy who is the best rookie QB, was second runner up in the Heisman and led the same type of 4th quarter scoring drive against Bama that he used to beat us. Plus Miami has all the luck of the football gods this year. They may not have a QB up to the other team’s level but their luck quotient this year has been off the charts.

Which stat captures, ‘hey, the game is on the line we need 1 more stop’.
Because he seems to suck at that stat.

Also, I’d like to see how we are on 3rd and long. I swear nothing makes me pucker like our defense the last few years when it’s 3rd and 7 or more.

In the NFL, for instance, it's extremely difficult to convert third and long because defenses bring enough pressure to force qb's to get rid of the ball too quickly to allow for deeper routes to develop...But CK doesn't seem to blitz much in those situations.

Those aren't statistics, those are qualitative/subjective reasoning.

We are 48th this year, 2016 it was 17th, 2015 it was 66th, 2014 it was 106th, 2013 it was 8th, 2012 it was 3rd, 2011 it was 23rd, 2010 it was 75th, 2009 it was 101st.

If our recruiting was falling in the middle of the pack, I'd be ok with our defense falling in the middle of the pack. Unfortunately, there are a lot of teams who are better than us defensively (judged either statistically or by the eye test) who don't have as much talent.

Ahhh, recruiting. Maybe we quit worrying about stars and start worrying about players that work with whatever "system" we think will bring success? It's like recruiting a big, physical, press CB and saying "okay, now play off coverage 85% of our plays."

Sorry, probably wrong board...

As long as that $40 million buyout is in place, Jimbo has all of the leverage and can do whatever he wants and there's nothing the administration, boosters or fans can do about it.

If Jimbo decides he can "fix" the problem without any personnel changes, things could get really ugly, both on and off the field.

While a bit silly, has anyone else noticed how fired up the UM defense gets over that sill turnover chain? Alabama wrestling belt? I saw some other team with a chain this past weekend.

While I find it silly at best, the young players EAT that stuff up. Instead of something to get players fired up about, they sit on the sideline looking morose. What stat most accurately represents the absolute lack of giving a crap? Besides the losses stat of course.

Not even really talking about recruiting, more based on talent as determined by whether guys play in the NFL. I figure we have, at a minimum, 6 guys in our starting D who will play in the NFL (Sweat, Nnadi, Burns, Thomas, James, McFadden) and a handful more who will if you dig into the depth chart. Right now, we're 50th in ppg. While I haven't gone through the others, I'd be shocked if at least half of them don't have as many guys who will play for pay.
I simply, strongly, believe that there are a lot of coaches out there who get more from less than does our guy.
