What do you see as the key factors in the number of FB wins this fall?
1) First, the percentage of the team that is vaccinated. If all players are vaccinated were won't have to worry about players not playing and practicing because of Covid-19. If the rapidly-growing delta version takes off without our players getting vaccinated we are in trouble...look at recent Florida stats.
2) Ability of defensive line to stop the run (think ND game plan--very worried about this one).
3) Quarterback pressure by our defense (All of the new DEs should help, but don't know about our coaching or strategies).
4) Passing coverage (hope/think we will be much improved here because of more time with new system)

Football-wise, getting a pass rush will help the entire defense. Norvell bringing in 8 new pass rushers (transfers and high school) kind of answers the question on what the biggest factor is. Of course, stopping the run is a huge factor against a team like ND. But we can't let average opposing QB's absolutely torch us because of no pressure.

1) Build a new and sustainable culture. Ex) Don't quit when things are not going your way.

2) Continued Improvement on the offensive line

3) Keep Jordan Travis Healthy and effectively utilize both QB's

4) Have all the new faces on the team prepared week 1. Shouldn't take half the season to look like you have a reasonable understanding of the system.

5) Have an effective pass rush

Good post! I would include limited injuries, especially at positions in which we have little depth, as well as the offensive line being able to block at least adequately.
I especially like your point about the team being vaccinated.

4) QB play

If those 4 areas improve we will win 8 to 9 games.

Continue the purge if need be. Get the linebackers to fill the holes. If we can do these things, we should be much improved.

INJURIES. The number 1 and end all. Our starting 22 are probably near the top 3rd of the conference.

Our next 22 aren’t. A guy like Johnson going down, literally can change games.

McClain goes down. Parchmant goes down. DLT goes down.

You get where I’m going here.

This 100%. We have no quality depth anywhere on this team.

honestly it fun to guess but that like guessing the president in 2028 .. fun but silly
we do not know how good our QB OL WR will be and
we do not know how good out DL LB and DBs will be ..

need to get a bit more info from fall practice to even guess .. I would argue that
we have more questions than answer at this point

1) avoid injuries
2) DE transfers need to produce a pass rush
3) Improve LB play
4) OL has to improve
5) culture change: develop a team mentality and a hunger to win, and get back up off the ground after getting punched in the face, and start swinging

Not just improve but improve “enough” across the board to get to those wins. 7-5 season schedule and then start new bowl streaks.

The #1 factor is the number of players getting duped into a vaccine????
You can't fix stupid!!!!

Why wouldn't all the players get vaccinated? Or at least 95% of them? Are they going to give them 2 tests a week? I thought that was over after the baseball season ended.

To place vaccination as your #1 factor - please go log in to CNN and drink their Kool-aid - WOW.

A saw a stat yesterday that out of 152 patients hospitalized in Jax for COVID, 98.7% were unvaccinated. Delta variant cases are skyrocketing in Jax. You can deny severity of COVID and refuse for whatever reason to get vaccinated, but unvaccinated players could very well miss time in the fall. Hopefully the team is 75+% vaccinated by fall practice.

It may be tiny to you but how about the person who has the ventilator down their throat? I have had two healthy 30-40 year old's die in my neighborhood lately (unvaccinated) - they were OK one day --on a ventilator about 4 days later and dead within 10 days. Sad to see when they had so much life ahead of them. Family's would not agree with you on that 1% thing as they are devastated.

Guess you could apply that to smokers, those with a poor diet, reckless drivers, heavy drinkers…all avoidable, potentially horrible deaths.
Smokers and poor diet don't spread their sickness to other people like covid does. I know getting vaccinated is a personal choice but the scope of ignorance is mind blowing. I work in Healthcare and see it daily. You wouldn't believe the screaming and crying coming from covid patients when it hits them.

It appears critical thinking skills have left the building. Most of those do not kill others (reckless driving maybe). The unvaccinated have the potential to infect thousands and kill some percentage of them. I just don't get why protecting yourself, your family and the general community is not a good achievable thing(especially when it is readily available).

I think there is an element in this thread who don't understand what OP is saying. I know some people can't resist the temptation to engage in BS divisive political argument garbage incited by radio talk show hosts and social media algorithms about the underlying issue about vaccinations, but OP is saying one of the biggest keys to winning this season is keeping our players eligible to play.

Please don't allow this thread to devolve into the political divisive garbage.

You have to give OP credit for at least attempting to conceal the entire point of his thread by throwing in some football related stuff
It didn’t fool me but it probably got a good percentage

I give the OP credit for identifying a real issue that could potentially have a huge impact on the success of our team -- making sure our best players can play each week.

If you work in health care (like I do) then you know that the vaccine is developed to stop the spread. If you’re vaccinated, you don’t spread the disease, and you have a better chance of getting hit by a meteor than dying. On the other hand, if you don’t get the vaccine, you’re at risk. So, the people at risk would be the people who choose not to get the vaccine…and it’s their choice to make, not yours. So, either you’re arguing against choice or that the vaccine isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do, which begs the question, why would you get a vaccine that isn’t doing what it’s supposed to?

Who are you protecting? The unvaccinated who chose not to get vaccinated? How is that your business. I got the vaccine because I’m in the health care profession, but it’s not for me to force anyone else to make a personal choice. Almost everyone is aware of the small risk this virus poses, and it’s up to them if they want to take that risk, not me.

I'm not against choice. I said it's a personal choice but the problem is covid, especially the Delta variant, spreads really easily from person to person. So a choice not to get vaccinated or even wear a mask is affecting more than just yourself. It's keeping covid with us for the long run.and the ones that are unvaccinated are filling up the hospitals and dying. Like I said, it finally hits them when they struggle for air. That's when they realize they have been duped by very selfish people.

I will relax when the entire team is vaccinated. Until then I will worry about more cancelled games and chaos in the fall, as well as thousands of unnecessary deaths caused by those not willing to get the shot(s).
Drop it with the vaccination preaching. First off if you are familiar with the vaccine it will not prevent a player from catching Covid. They are still likely to catch and test positive for Covid if they haven't already had it.

If you want to preach start a church.

Covid will be around for a long time in some variant. If someone if susceptible to the virus due to age, obesity or existing medial conditions then they are free to choose to get vaccinated. There is no reason to be concerned with Covid if those who wish to be vaccinated have the option to. The survivability of Covid is currently near 100%.

No one knows what the long term effects of receiving the vaccine will be. There is no reason for individuals who are younger than 50 and not obese to be pressured to get the vaccine.
