Last Jedi spoilers.

The point was to break the chain of star wars trope - 2-3 guys break into evil guys base and save universe by themselves. They went on this crazy mission they were told not to and effed everything up instead of saving everyone. Everyone in the theater expected it to work because it always works - the fact that it failed spectacularly made it fun, and taught Poe a lesson.

As for Rose, I don't get all the hate. She was fine. Not great, but not this target of disdain that she's becoming.

I think we know why she is the target of disdain.

If Holdo had told Poe the plan all along there would not have been a vote of no confidence. People would not have died. Keeping it a secret created the mutiny. I blame Holdo's character and not Poe. Poe acted in the best interest of his unit with the information he was given.

It's lazy and borderline dimwitted, but man I'm glad I can just go watch a movie and check out for 2+ hours and not have to analyze the heck out of everything

Correct. 100 percent on poor leadership (holdo).

That makes sense if you see Poe as an important figure in the resistance. However, if he's just a fly boy then why is he privy to secret plans? Do our generals tell the rank and file their plans to keep them from going rogue, or do they just expect them to follow orders?

Wasn’t Poe a commander in this one? I recall him getting demoted when he didn’t follow orders.

Agreed. Poe cost those people their lives. Not Holdo. She was his superior, he was expected to obey. Instead he went all mutiny and wound up with those lives on his hands. He should be court martialed and executed, not named a hero.

- The resistance is tiny.
- Poe was a commander by rank, granted he was demoted.

Let's line them all up and let resistance fall. They all disobeyed the order of those in charge. This also includes Luke Skywalker.

Some interesting theories I read this week, that if they become true will have a lot of the criticisms muted.

1. Snoke isn't dead. Someone looked up his original description in the books and he's a master manipulator who rarely shows his true self and instead shows force projections quite often. One theory is that Snoke only let Kylo believe he killed him, and what he killed was a force projection similar to Luke's projection at the end.

2. Everyone's mad because Rey's parents didn't turn out to be somebody major. While that doesn't bother me, Rian Johnson was quoted as saying that her parentage is far from settled. Just because Kylo believes her parent's are nobodies doesn't mean they are.
