LATE REPORT
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said he was really pleased with his team's work following Monday's afternoon practice. Fisher was in a extremely good mood when he said hello to everyone in the media. Someone commented that Fisher seemed happy. Fisher joked that the media likes to assume stuff but he was still really animated with everyone.
He said the bye week serves quite a few purposes but there were two points he specifically touched on. The first point centered on how this week gives the Seminoles a chance to refine a few things considering how young of a team it is. The second point detailed how this week gives the coaching staff a chance to introduce the players to some new schemes they'll see throughout the year and a chance to get comfortable for what Wake Forest will run.
Fisher said upon looking back at the game film the offense "left a lot of big plays on the field" against Boston College in Friday's 14-0 win at Alumni Stadium. He said it was just a matter of players having to execute better.
The offensive line was also discussed. He said getting OL Chad Mavety back from an injury would be big and that Mavety would figure into the rotation. Fisher said the plan is to build depth at the position and if needed, the Seminoles could rotate lineman throughout the year. He drew from what the New England Patriots have been doing. Fisher said he noticed how the Patriots would interchange linemen so "those guys can get a rest physically. And mentally too."

EARLY REPORT
Florida State has officially entered its bye week and judging from what was observed Monday, it appears the coaching staff is treating this week as if there was a game. Nearly every position coach, along with head coach Jimbo Fisher, was extremely vocal with the players Monday. In a way, it may have been the most vocal open portion of practice to this point in the season. Now for the news:
The Seminoles are still having offensive players dress in white and defensive players remain in garnet. FSU uses the method to prepare for road games so the quarterbacks can be comfortable throwing to a player wearing that week's jersey color. FSU's next game will be at Wake Forest on Oct. 3.
TE Jalen Wilkerson was still out. He was dressed in a jersey but was not seen holding a helmet. OL Abdul Bello and Cole Minshew did not participate. They were each wearing jerseys and had helmets but did not take part in drills. DE Lorenzo Featherston along with DB Marcus Lewis were each in a t-shirt and shorts doing what appeared to be rehab drills. Also, LB Tyrell Lyons was on crutches. FSU announced prior to the BC game, Lyons would miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL.
RB Dalvin Cook was in practice and he was wearing a blue non-contact jersey. He was still catching passes with the quarterbacks on flat routes and did drills with the rest of the running backs.
Quarterbacks were under a microscope as was anyone in Fisher's immediate area. Everett Golson looked messy on a toss and Fisher said he had to do better. He also had a low pass to a running back during a drill and Fisher demanded Golson re-attempt the pass. Fisher became more vocal as practice continued. Freshman quarterback Deondre Francois overthrew a tight end leading Fisher to let the first-year player know that the mistake was on him, not the tight end. Furthermore, Fisher expressed that Francois, along with all quarterbacks, must know their personnel and adjust accordingly when throwing a pass.
Another area of interest was offensive line. There was nothing too out of the ordinary although the line did have did have one change on the right. Taking first-team snaps with Wilson Bell was Derrick Kelly. It was said prior to the BC game, Kelly would get some playing time with the first team and he did when replacing Brock Ruble. Perhaps today was a continuation of Kelly staying with the first team. Or it could be another way of getting players work with the first team and building depth, something Fisher is known to do.

We're supposed to speak with Jimbo around 6:10 p.m. Until then. Goodbye for now.
