LATE REPORT

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said he was pleased with what he saw out of Saturday's scrimmage but still said there's more work that needs to be done.

A number of key players were either held out or limited during the scrimmage, Fisher said. Star tailback Dalvin Cook and Derwin James had a few plays before sitting the rest of practice out. Receiver Travis Rudolph was in a blue jersey because Fisher didn't want him getting banged up given how well he has performed this spring.

Defensive back Marquez White also missed practice with a broken bone in his hand. Fisher said a plate will be inserted but he expects White to return "in a couple days." He said the injury was obtained when White was jamming a receiver.

Fisher also said he saw some good things from all three quarterbacks during the scrimmage. He didn't elaborate on if any of them had firmly established themselves as the top choice to this point. During drills, Deondre Francois was taking reps with the first team.

As for Francois, he was seen getting in extra work well after practice was over. Only a handful of people were still in the Indoor Practice Facility as Francois continued to work on his mechanics.

Reporters did speak with Cook, James, Rudolph and defensive end DeMarcus Walker.

Rudolph spoke on a number of subjects. He said he's liked what he's seen to this point from Francois as well as Cosentino and Henry. Both Rudolph and Walker were also pretty high on what they've seen from tight end Ryan Izzo this spring. Rudolph said, "I feel like he's gonna be just as good or even better than Nick O'Leary."

While the scrimmage was coming to an end, former FSU defensive back Jalen Ramsey entered the Indoor Practice Facility.

EARLY REPORT

For those who haven't heard, Tallahassee is experiencing a deluge at the moment. Rain has more or less altered a number of Florida State athletic events this weekend. Baseball, which did play Friday, opted to play a doubleheader on Saturday because of the rain that came through Sunday.

Even football felt the impact. The team was slated to scrimmage today at Doak Campbell Stadium. Those plans were washed out by soggy conditions. FSU held practice inside the Indoor Practice Facility and the session was open to the media for the first two periods.

Now, for the news:

>There were some recruits and signees here and for that, check out Michael Langston's recruiting thread that recapped those events.

>LB Sh'Mar Kilby-Lane was out. He missed last Saturday with a hip flexor and was out again Monday but returned Wednesday. Another absentee was WR George Campbell. WR Ja'Vonn Harrison was also held out of practice.

>We've been seeing a number of visitors at FSU practices lately. Former kicker Roberto Aguayo was in town. He told me that he's been preparing for the Pro Day on Tuesday and that he's been training at IMG Academy in Bradenton. He said that he's feeling pretty good about Tuesday. Also, former Jacksonville Jaguars star offensive lineman Tony Boselli was here. Boselli has been at a few practices this spring. When the offensive linemen were finishing their individual drills, a few of them went over to Boselli to grab some pointers.

>Deondre Francois was first in the quarterback rotation and was followed by JJ Cosentino and then Malik Henry. All three had some impressive throws today. Francois was the most consistent. Henry had the sharpest moments while Cosentino had one over the shoulder toss that was impressive. Still, Francois looked the strongest of all of them. Even on the balls that were dropped, most of his passes were where they needed to be.

If only there was video....

>As for the receivers, there were some good and bad moments. The route-running from what we could observe looked decent but the catches were an issue. A couple of guys had dropped passes and it reinforces what Fisher was saying Wednesday when he voiced his frustrations regarding the inconsistencies.

>Today's offensive line rotation was Roderick Johnson-Kareem Are-Alec Eberle-Wilson Bell-Brock Ruble and beyond that, it was pretty much business as usually.

>The tight ends were kind of intriguing. Ryan Izzo might have been one of the sharpest overall performers this afternoon. When the tight ends were working with the quarterbacks, Izzo impressed Tim Brewster. So much to the point he told Chris Casher, "Watch Izzo! Do everything he's doing!" Pretty high praise for Izzo coming from Brewster.

>Another interesting moment came with the linebackers. They were doing a drill testing eye and foot discipline and Bill Miller didn't seem happy. So when it came time to do another drill, he asked for "someone that's been here before" and that meant Ro'Derrick Hoskins. Hoskins did the drill and Miller was on the cusp of saying something but held back. Matthew Thomas was next and he appeared to do the drill at a quicker rate than Hoskins yet Miller still had that look like he wanted to unleash some words but showed restraint.

>Over on special teams, Ricky Aguayo had a few decent kicks from distances of more than 30 yards. He's had some solid kicks this spring. One of his attempts went off the uprights and it led to Jimbo Fisher saying "Come on Ricky!" Aguayo lined up one more time and it sailed through. Even Dalvin Cook said, "Stop playing with me Ricky!"'

>On punt returns, the rotation was Travis Rudolph, Kermit Whitfield and Nyqwan Murray. Today's starting kickoff returners were Whitfield and Rudolph. Also, the kickoff coverage team was Derwin James, Trey Marshall, Marcus Lewis, Tarvarus McFadden, Hoskins, Thomas, Josh Brown, Nate Andrews, Ryan Green and Colton Plante with Aguayo doing the kicking.

Here's your Tweet of the Day:

We've been told that Fisher will be available at 2:30 p.m. Then we should get be getting players afterward.

Until next time. Goodbye for now.
