Florida State sophomore guard Ta’Niya Latson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo earned Rookie of the Week honors. Latson claimed her first weekly honor of the season, while Hidalgo claimed her sixth Rookie of the Week award.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Latson posted back-to-back 30-point performances to lead Florida State to a pair of conference wins over Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. In Friday’s win over the Yellow Jackets, the Miami native poured in a game-high 30 points with four rebounds, five assists and a pair of blocks, as she knocked down three 3-pointers. On Sunday, the guard recorded her second 30-point effort of the week, with 20 second-half points, to pace the Seminoles to a 73-61 win over Wake Forest. In 20 career ACC regular season games, she has recorded six games of 30 points or more.
Hidalgo recorded a game-high 32 points with five rebounds, six assists and seven steals for Notre Dame in Sunday’s narrow setback at Syracuse. The Haddonfield, New Jersey, native tallied her seventh game this season with six more steals, bringing her total to 67 steals on the year, a mark that would have ranked fifth in last season’s final totals. The guard continues to lead the nation in steals per game with a 6.09 clip.
A nation-best six teams are ranked in the latest Associated Press (AP) Poll with NC State continuing to lead the way at No. 3. Virginia Tech climbed a spot to No. 13, while Notre Dame and Louisville follow at No. 16 and No. 17, respectively. Florida State is No. 22 and Syracuse made its debut at No. 25. North Carolina and Miami are receiving votes.
ACC play continues Thursday with seven matchups headlined by a Top-25 showdown when No. 22 Florida State heads to No. 3 NC State. Tipoff on ACC Network Extra is set for 7 p.m. Another full slate of conference games awaits on Sunday with six contests on linear networks. The day begins at noon with the lone top-25 matchup of the day when No. 3 NC State visits No. 13 Virginia Tech on ACC Network.
