Least favorite city you've spent at least three days in

In my experience, Houston's either love it or hate it.

This. I don't care for Houston at all. I think its dirty and it's just ugly. Maybe its ugly because of the lack of zoning laws, I don't know.

My wife and I were talking about "what ifs" one night and we both agreed that if we ever moved back to Texas, the only places we would consider are Austin and Fort Worth.

This is a tough question for me. There are things I dislike about a lot of cities but I also have typically found things to enjoy everywhere I have been.
I will also say that Detroit is way better than its reputation. Of course 8 Mile is awful but if all of you went to the South Sude of Chicago instead of Michigan Ave, you would say the same thing about Chicago. I spent a week in Detroit last summer with some friends and can't wait to go back later this summer. One of the best boating cities in America. Great food. Great culture and overall very welcoming people. I felt much safer in Detroit than I do in New Orleans.
Back to the OP- if I had to pick one it would have to be Richmond or Orlando as my least favorite.

Jackson, MS

I was there for two weeks and I found it to have all of the economic depression of Detroit, but without any of the "big city" benefits (like decent restaurants). It was just poor, and everything that seems to come along with that.

I spent a summer there a couple weeks ago, and it's really the worst of both worlds. The city itself has some soul left in it but is crushed by poverty. The suburbs are much more affluent but completely devoid of anything that would differentiate them from any other collection of McMansions and strip malls. People are pretty friendly, though.

So you like the smell of manure, eh?
I'm not sure where in Ft Worth it smells like manure. The Stockyards don't really have any cattle there any more. There are some really beautiful old neighborhoods - especially the neighborhoods to the West, around TCU, the botanic gardens and Colonial country club.

If I moved back to Texas, I'd make a real effort to relocate to Ft Worth, rather than to Dallas. Better area to me, with nicer people.

I didn't even get to the suburbs. I was there working with Comcast, and the place we were auditing was in Jackson itself. "Depressed" described really the whole attitude of the place and the people, not just the economics. And we were definitely told that we HAD to be out before dark, because the location didn't want to risk us being there when it got dark, and anything that might happen to us.

Did a 3 day business convention in Detroit about 5 yrs ago....what a hell hole....the drive from the airport to my hotel was like a war zone....abandoned buildings everywhere.....
I didn't say Detroit, because I wasn't there for the full 3 days stipulated. I was there for about a day and a half. We drove past plenty of streets on which is seemed every house/building was abandoned, grafitti'd, and partially destroyed.

The low point for me was that we went to the casino (the Motor City Casino) the night that we were there - figuring casinos are fun. The people that were there gambling were not having fun. It appeared that everyone there was gambling for bill money. Everyone was really quiet and somber, and it really depressed us. We ended up leaving without gambling, just because we were feeling so guilty for being there wanting to have fun around all these other people that really NEEDED to win.

I liked what little I saw of Buffalo (basically a trip to the Anchor Bar for the original buffalo wings, a stop by the Great Lake and ride through downtown). But I was there when it was nice on my way to Niagara, N-O-L, 20 Bench and Toronto. I'm sure during the 10 months of winter they have it is awful.

I hate LA.
DC is great though. While I don't like going into S.F, that's more about me not liking cities than anything against S.F.

Yes, Fresno is a dump.

I agree. I stayed in Fort Worth for the FSU-Oklahoma State game last fall and I really enjoyed it. Liked the layout of downtown and the found myself glad I stayed there and not in Dallas.

Being a non-foodie, it's interesting how many people cite restaurants as a reason for liking or disliking a city.

Have had several opportunities (my company and a competitor's offer) in the past 18 months to move to Houston for a big raise, but couldn't do it. Got asked again a few months ago, still had to pass. My wife and I have always talked about moving to Texas to pretty much any big city except Houston or El Paso. Had the offer been to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft Worth, I think we'd have already left.

I have a solid Boston accent, so people know where I am from immediately, and when I travel to Florida, the women love the accent and I generally run into friendly people, but there are those who just don't like northerners and I find Orlando as being the worst (even if I didn't speak, Orlando is tops in term of people being miserable). I wore a FSU tee to Universal one year and had two different Universal employees run their mouths about FSU. From the airport on, I can't stand Orlando.

Haven't been to Buffalo, but Syracuse is a baby sister of Washington, D.C.

Outside of game day.....Tallahassee. I spent 3 months working on a project there, it was awful. Came in on Monday mornings and left Thursday nights....couldn't get home fast enough and remember dreading having to go.

There are plenty of cities that are worse, just haven't staying in any of them longer than 3 days.

Some one mentioned Panama City, I would agree. The actual city, not beach, during off season is pretty damn boring and lame.

That's interesting. I think if you gave Houston a shot, you'd enjoy it. I think there is more here to do, to eat and to see than Dallas/Ft. Worth.

Birmingham, Alabama was dreadful.....

Flint, Michigan was even worse than Detroit....

Guess I'm the only person that's been to Fresno. Felt like I had to watch my back every time I stepped out, hell even in a car at stoplights, face tatted prisoner types would stare you down. Saw a mother walking her sons and dog get slapped down by a guy in broad daylight and bystanders laughed. There was a shootout inside a daycare a block from where I was working downtown, a casino parking lot mugging, and a gang turf shooting all in one day. The hottest girl was shaped like a weeble wobble and had a faint mustachio, but she had a pretty eye and made the softest tri tip torta. Shout out to Carmen! What up gurl? If you readin this, hit a honky up!

Recently moved to SoCal and although I haven't been to Fresno everyone here seems to hate it, along with Sacramento.

The only redeeming thing about that hole was it's only an hr to Yosemite, which is one of my favorite places Ive been.

And to add, the TX panhandle area north and west of Dallas, south of OK city is pretty depressing. Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Lawton; no one is happy out that way. Ive been all over the country and that is the only place I do not want to go back to.

Sacramento and Fresno have little in common aside from both being in the central valley.

Imagine growing up in a place where driving to Fresno was going "to the big, nice city so we can shop."

Cincinnati, OH (or anywhere else in Ohio)

Dayton, OH. Spent 2 weeks there for work a few years ago and I hated it. I've been to a lot of cities for a week or two and it's easily the worst.

2nd worst was in Texas - McAllen. What a dirty hole that was.

3rd worst was in TEXAS - Houston. What's the deal with 3 downtowns? Stupid. And also dirty.

If I had to spend any more time in Ohio in any other cities is be very sad.

If you're in Buffalo in the winter...yuck. If cities past their glory days depress you, that can be tough...a lot of shells of the city's past industrial glory. A lot of it is not "new". If you like high end "foodie" type food...yeah, not much there.

However...Buffalo is arguably one of the best architecture cities in America...there's a lot of beauty there. There is a lot to do there when it's not winter...a tremendous amount of festivals, concerts, art, drinking, minor league baseball etc. The one thing about cold weather places, when the weather is nice, people know how to have fun. And the "common" food is the best in America...pizza, hot dogs, wings, sandwiches, etc. And not like "there's this one place"....you can get a fantastic pizza or beef on weck or wings within walking distance of almost anywhere you are. And there is a lot to do within a short drive.

Culture (theater, philharmonic, etc) and museums are above average for a city of it's size, and in general, there are a lot of benefits in terms of traffic and cultural amenities for having a small amount of people living in a city that was once much bigger/greater. That also results in the cost of living being low...probably among the lowest in the Northeast. And the people are great.

All that said, it's still got it's problems...between the weather and the economy, I could never move back, but I rarely hear that people that have spent time there have thought poorly of it.

And after all that...granted my list of 3+ day cities is probably small compared to most people...Tallahassee is probably my least favorite.

3 downtowns? Don't think you were in Houston

Lol, they weren't all actually downtowns. Downtown, uptown, and I'm thinking Greenway Plaza.

Anyway, it seems like there are multiple skylines throughout the city, & they're all pretty far apart.

Cities I was really surprised I liked:

Houston (lived there for a couple of year after college)
Cleveland
Portsmouth
