Already I hear the question, hoyas1, I am unfamiliar with Miss Lawrie and how she could be considered a Florida State hero. Her name does not ring a bell.
Fair enough.
It was 2009 and the University of Washington Huskies had advanced to the college softball 3 game series championship at the college softball world series vs powerful #1 ranked Florida. UF pitcher Stacy Nelson was considered nearly unhittable. Washington was a big underdog. I know because its quite possible I bet Washington +180 for the series and about +180 in game 1 and +180 in game 2. Game 3, would not be necessary.....
Washington was led by pitcher Danielle Lawrie, massively overworked throughout the playoffs to get Washington this far. But for 2 days in a row on national TV on ESPN in prime time, she shut the gators down.
Anyone who shoves in down the gators pie holes, in a national championship on national tv, is more than OK in my book. And thanks for the dough Miss Lawrie.
Go Huskies!
