So, often on Memorial day weekends I end up doing a little drinking, reflecting on lost friends and listening to music.

There are a few songs, sort of military or loss themed that I like to get into that make me reflect on all of the folks that made the ultimate sacrifice. Politics aside, I hate to see a young man die. I get a little more bitter in my old age at the "whys" but, either way. Most were just good kids / men doing what they thought was the best. In every war since the dawn of time.

Here are a few I always listen too. You have any?

I never fought, I got out just in time, but served with a lot of guys who did, and then 2007/8/9 I worked at the VA in Tampa and volunteered there a lot. This song reminds me of seeing those kids. I was about 31/32 then. Lot of combat wounded there those days. A lot of burns. Just kids.

I never served in the military, but I am thankful for those who haves and still do
My son is in the service now

I don’t have songs like you do but I do pray for the wounded, those that have gave it all for my freedom, and the families of those brave warriors!

Now I include the men and women in blue , firefighters and all first responders.and their families as well!

For those on here that have served or still serve I say Thank You!

Don't have any special music; although there are a few good songs from deployment videos that bounce around my head. A tradition I started a few years ago was doing something painful as a way to honor my friends and all the others that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Last year I chopped a tree down with an ax and hand saw. This year I moved about 4000 lbs of rock as I finish up my landscaping project. I unloaded them at the other end of the yard so I would have to move them back as far as possible.

I don't play it on any particular day, but whenever I hear the Band of Brothers soundtrack it hits an emotional nerve. Part of it is thinking of my grandparents' generation and how few of them there are left.

Those were a different kind of people. Amazing folks at so many levels.
One of the underrated components of their pysche was the lack of attention grabbing antics. They just went about what had to be done, did it, and then went on with life.
We are inundated right now with a bunch of adds for candidates for office in S.C. due to our proximity. Almost to a person they blow up basically ordinary (for the generation you mention), deeds as if they are heros. Heros do, they don’t brag. Shut up and produce, let your deeds tell your story.

**- I agree with your sentiment but just couldn't help it!

There are certain songs that I hear that will remind me of Iraq mostly, probably because they were popular during that time and were played constantly, but that makes me think of the ones in my unit that didn’t come home. One guy who I was really close with loved the song “Hero of the Day” so I always think of him when I hear it.

I am a huge Lucero fan and will be seeing them in Orlando on June 10th. Good song.

Been getting a steady diet of Bakersfield country - it’s interesting to see Hags

Who else is waiting for the thread about Ranger getting a violation notice from his HOA for his landscaping and the hijinxs that follow.

I agree with the sentiment on the theme song. I'm watching the series again, as is my Memorial Day tradition.

Haha. Nope this is approved and was part of the war I am in with them. They lost. Rule number 2 don't make up rules in the covenants that don't exist to no approve landscape changes; especially when 2 houses and the common areas in the neighborhood are doing similar things.
