10:40 a.m. update -- We got a good long look at practice today. More than the last couple of days.

The players worked in shells, started with the 'Nole Drill and then went to some various segment drills.

* Gene saw some standouts in the 'Nole Drill -- Jaiden Woodbey, Jordan Young, Gabe Nabers and Jauan Williams.

* Corey noticed OT Jalen Goss worked with the TE's in run-blocking drills but then back with the O-linemen for pass-blocking drills. Don't think he's necessarily changed positions, but getting some cross-training.

* Didn't see DL Robert Cooper during the portion we watched. Cedric Wood appear to be taking his reps with the 1s. We'll check on his status when we can get it. ... Injured players Kaindoh (hamstring) and Adams (ankle) are not back yet.

* Dontae Lucas still with the 1s at guard.

* Walk-on QB Nolan McDonald appears to be working at DB now.

* Will have full observations, video highlights and photos coming soon.

Just got Willie for a nice long interview. About 11 minutes.

* After the first day in shells, Willie said he liked the intensity but added that some guys have to learn how to practice like "pros" and not tackle to the ground. He does like the passion though. Guys getting competitive.

* He's impressed with the young players, especially in the secondary. Said they're pushing the older DBs.

* On the QBs, said you can see that James and Jordan are more comfortable running the offense, but he likes what he's seen from Hornibrook too. You can see his maturity and experience level, even if he's unsure sometimes of assignments. Likes all 3 QBs.

* Singled out redshirt freshmen Warren Thompson, Jordan Young and D'Marcus Adams with making a lot of plays early in camp.

* Asked about Jauan Williams, he said you can tell a difference in him. More confident now because he's bigger, stronger and more mature.

* On Dontae Lucas -- said he's probably the most physical offensive lineman they have already. Really comes after the ball. Still has some assignment and technique things to work on, but it's fun to watch him go after a guy like Marvin Wilson. Said he definitely shows he fits in with that top group of linemen.

* Willie said he's been happy with the first few days of practice. Not where things need to be, but sees improvement.

* Said he can tell the players, especially on offense, have retained a lot from the spring. There's not a lot of missed assignments.

* On the 3-4 defense, said they'll still be "multiple." Won't be all 3-4. But he likes what he's seen with the extra speed on the field. Also said the DEs who are transitioning to OLB have adjusted well.

* On Hamsah being at safety again. Said we'll see him everywhere on field, not just in secondary.

* Regarding all the cramping on first day, said guys are in good shape, but "football shape" is different. Part of dealing with tempo is mental, and he said guys have come a long way from last year. "So much better."

* Said there have been far less "pre-snap penalties" in practice compared to last year.

Injury news:
* Josh Kaindoh tweaked his hamstring, but he said it's not serious. They're being cautious.
* Tamorrion Terry is rehabbing well and will be back sooner than later. Said Terry is watching film of practices and is really itching to get out there. He sees other guys making plays and is dying to get out there.
* D'Marcus Adams tweaked an ankle, but they think he'll be back soon.

That's it for now.

Willie was the only interview for today. Will have practice observations soon.
