Hoping the LR can point me in the right direction. Planning on renting a cabin in the mountains for a 4 day weekend (Fri-Mon). Any suggestions ? I'm open to N Georgia or the Carolinas. Pet friendly, mountain view. Any recommendations appreciated.

I appreciate the link, what I was hoping for is suggestions on areas to stay that are nice, close to something fun, etc. Or even a specific cabin someone has had a good experience with. Otherwise, I can definitely browse myself and choose .

We stay at Leatherwood Mountains near Boone, it’s a bit out if the way, but if you’re looking for a mountain community with some incredible views, deer, wild turkey and plenty of walking, hiking, horseback riding etc, this might work. It’s about 15 miles from Boone by the shortcut road. They have an assortment of cabins some of which are pet friendly. We last rented a cabin called Horse Whisper. Warning...The closest convenience store is about 8 miles away although Leatherwood does operate a small canteen and gift shop. Check out @LeatherwoodMountains.com.

Appreciate that. I'll check it out. That's exactly what I'm looking for, mountain views, hiking, wildlife.

Dero may see this and chime in. I think he has an Aunt with a B & B, which may suit your needs.

I stayed in Blue Ridge a few springs ago. It was nice, there’s def some stuff to do but probably better when it’s warmer out. There’s a nice little downtown area with some shops and a couple legitimately good restaurants. It could be completely dead in the winter since it’s not really a ski area.

I usually stay in one of two places. Either in a cabin near Helen or Dahlonega Georgia or at a resort or cabin in the Gatlinburg/PigeonForge/Cherokee area (just stayed at the Margaritaville resort in Gatlinburg NOT Pigeon Forge/“the Island”, the Gatlinburg one is smaller but much nicer imo). I go to the TN/NC border at least once a year and go to the Georgia mountains about every other year or every third year.

Both areas are nice with plenty to do. The Helen/Dahlonega area is more rustic and more “adult” than the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Cherokee area while the TN/NC border towns have a huge range of options but can be “tacky”.

At Helen/Dahlonega in addition to the mountain views, you can eat some quality German food, pan for gold, and go to a bunch of actual good quality wineries (it’s not my favorite AVA, that would be the Central Coast of California and the Verde Valley of Arizona, but it’s on par with Niagara on the Lake, the hill country of Texas, etc...).

In Cherokee/Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge you’ve got a giant casino resort; a theme park; a lot of dinner shows both music, comedy, action and a combo; a ton of moonshine and whiskey distilleries; several nice waterfalls to hike to inside and near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; a good Native American cultural museum; and a ton of tacky touristy stuff like downtown Orlando or Daytona.

If you pick one of the above I can give a lot of advice on restaurants, things to do and places to stay.

I live in Ellijay. Hour from Atlanta, 1 1/2 from Chattanooga, so plenty to do. Blue Ridge has artsy fartsy shopping, craft breweries and the train ride. If you are interested in antiques, or wineries, hiking and bike trails, then Ellijay is the place. Brasstown Bald is not far. Highest point in GA at 4783 feet. Can see 4 states. Helen GA is another area you might consider.

Check out this website. My buddy owns both properties and while he is a gator his properties are fantastic.

We have rented in Seven Devils over the years. Its close to Boone without being in Boone lots of stuff to do. I believe we use Foscoe Mountain Rentals.

I routinely stay here when I’m up in the mountains riding my motorcycle. Beautiful area. Not very kid-friendly but it’s only a 90 minute drive to the Pigeon Forge area. A couple of their cabins have spotty cell service but I go there for seclusion.

Cannot go wrong in Asheville for my money. Not to mention allegiant air has some cheap flights from a few cities in Florida. Also Gatlinburg is pretty cool, though I saw a few too many confederate flags for my liking or comfort. Cherokee is also nice, but there isn't much to do there. I haven't been to Boone yet.

We stayed in between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge last year. Lacys cabin was the name of it. Pet friendly, we have an Australian Shepherd we took with us. Pretty good size yard also

Ha ha. It's all good. Was just joking about the pics--not that I would mind to see pics (of the dog).

My wife and I rented a 1 BR log cabin outside of Helen Ga last MLK weekend. It was Helen’s off peak season so it wasn’t crowded at all. Enjoyed the German restaurants. Went to Anna Ruby Falls even though the temps were in the 20s. Had a blast.

Hiawassee is a short drive over the mountain.

We just stayed at FDR State park in Pine Mountain. The park rented some nice cabins. Not as nice as other places mentioned and zero to do in town but a nice weekend trip.

Lake Burton outside of Clayton, GA. Beautiful lake and great areas nearby for hiking. They filmed Deliverance there. Also check out Highlands, NC.
