Is this series worth watching? I've watched the first few episodes and it's somewhat interesting. Not sure I want to get sucked into 7 seasons.

Very good. Good character development, some good plot line twists but doesn't come off as too "soap opera-ish"

Last two seasons were a little dull hence the lyrics in Key of Awesome's Game of Thrones parody

" gave up on Mad Men
'cause, nothing happened
except for when Don's wife sang Zou bisou"

Which is an absolutely true statement for the last two seasons. The earlier seasons were definitely worth it but I found myself slogging through the last two just to finish it. The finale was pretty good though.

Quality stuff, good acting and writing. You will relate to it if you're a boomer, and if you're not, you will learn something of 50's and 60's culture and society.

It's awesome. But it's not like Breaking Bad where it evolves into a thriller...what you see is what you get. If you aren't interested in the characters after half the season then it's not for you.

I absolutely loved it, although I thought it had some peaks and valleys quality wise.

My wife and I watched all 7 seasons and enjoyed it. We're NY transplants to Colorado so that may have had something to do with it. It drags in parts but probably worth watching....

If nothing else you have to watch up until the Don/Betty/Joan/Megan orgy episode. If you don't you'll never understand how they arrived there and, surprisingly, that matters.

Thanks all. I will continue watching and hopefully won't binge. The corporate culture back then was interesting but wonder how accurate it is. My mom told me that IBM used to interview job prospect's wives in the early 60s to make sure they could entertain management

As recently as the early 90s I remember guys at my consulting company going to strip clubs for lunch and expensing it on the company....not that I ever did that. Just heard about it.

It seems today that we have gone to the other end of corporate culture to the extreme and that is no good either. I could expound, but that would be a topic that would be banned here.

Top 5 all-time for me. I really identified with Draper when I was younger, made it that much more powerful to me.

Just finished this thing after a 3-4 week binge while at work. Crazy the sympathy you can feel for certain characters initially then all of a sudden, you feel apathetic about them and get frustrated with others. Definitely odd to see where social and professional practices have gone over 50 years.

Wonder if they'd do an 80s version about Wall Street... "The Street" or some such.

That's a show I watched week by week, and I wonder if I would have enjoyed it as much binging it. One of my top 2-3 favorite shows for sure.

It really was all about the character development, especially the minor characters. I actually found the character of Don to be rather uninteresting by the end, once his background is all on the table, I found myself caring about him less, other than how he impacted other people. Maybe that's why some people thought the last couple seasons dragged, because the Don story didn't carry the series that much.

I really found myself interested in Roger, Penny, Pete, etc much more than Don as it went on, and trying to read what was going on with them. The arcs of even minor characters was what really made that show fantastic to me.

The series also has my all time favorite episode of television ever, "Shut the Door. Have a Seat." the season 3 finale. Amazing episode, just electric.

On my second trip thru the series. Love it. Pete Campbell is a grimy little pimp.

If that's the one where Betty confronts Don about the box, then I agree. Maybe the best hour of TV ever.

EDIT: just did some googlin'. I think I'm referring to a different episode. The Gypsy and the Hobo.

It always felt like sipping a fine scotch whenever I watched it.

That being said, whatever issues I had with the show, Elisabeth Moss made it worth the journey.

For me, Pete ended up in the Don place for me as the character that you shouldn't be rooting for, but still care about. He's probably a worse person than Don and has less excuse for it given his backstory, but ultimately more sympathetic, because he's also pathetic. He gets the kind of comeuppance that Don just doesn't. Don's life veers from awesome, to just pretty awesome, but I couldn't help feeling for the hits Pete takes and thrilling in his successes, even though he's a horrible guy really.

This thread might have inspired me to go back and rewatch it.

I can see what you're saying....however, his grimy little pimpness is undisputed.

The Kodak pitch was my favorite pitch in the show. Great television.

Second was the Honda motorcycle episode.

Going in, was not a fan of Sterling, but by the end, I was hoping he'd have scenes. He's that character that acts the way we all want to. "I discovered I'm a child with a lot of money."

Agreed on minor characters, like Ginsberg. Dude had legit beef, just turned out to be psychotic. The Bob Baxter arc was just plane weird.

I love the vibe of this show. Would have been an awesome time to be Don Draper's age. Alas I was just a kid.

Big fan of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt was easy on the eyes back then. Oh wait, you're talking about something else, aren't you?
