The No. 8 Florida State softball team (12-3) opened up the Dugout Club Classic with a 10-2 win in five innings over Florida Gulf Coast (6-14) on Thursday night at JoAnne Graf Field. Seven out of FSU's 12 wins this season have come via run rule.

The Noles wasted no time getting on the board as Isa Torres led off with a solo home run to give the Noles the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Julia Apsel had two clean innings, and the offense got right back to work in the bottom of the second inning as Katie Dack led off with a single. Shelby McKenzie drew her first of three walks, and Torres hit her second home run in as many at bats to give the Noles the 4-0 lead. Thursday night was Torres' first multi-home run game as a Seminole.

The Eagles struck back in the top of the fourth with two runs of their own, but FSU got one run back as Jaysoni Beachum reached on an error to bring a run home to make it 5-2.

Ashtyn Danley relieved Apsel in the top of the fourth inning and faced the minimum to keep the Eagles in check and pick up her first save of the season.

Four walks pushed a run across for the Noles in the bottom of the fifth, and with the bases loaded with two outs, Annabelle Widra smoked a ball to center field for a triple and advanced home on a poor throw to end the game. In two at bats with bases loaded this season, Widra has hit two triples with six RBI.

Apsel picked up the win to improve to 3-0 as she went 3.1 innings and struck out two. Danley allowed just one hit but forced a double play to leave the bases empty.

The Noles will be back in action Friday at 3 p.m. against FGCU and will face Mercer approximately 30 minutes following the first game. Both games will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
