Jimbo was effusive in his praise after practice today. Really upbeat about the attitude, the energy, and said the execution was farther ahead than he thought it would be. Here are some notes:

The board drills today might have been better than any day since Jimbo has been here, he said. He attributes it to having so many young guys who have so much energy and desire, knowing they have a chance to win jobs this spring. We heard from some other folks at practice that guys were really getting after it today in board drills, the first practice this year where they've gone in pads.

Jimbo had a lot of good things to say about De'Andre Johnson today. He had a really nice play in the open period of practice that we saw, stepping up in the pocket to throw, and Jimbo said his instincts are really good. Sean Maguire also had another good day today, particularly in assigning protections and blitz pickups. JJ Cosentino is getting better at knowing where to go with the ball, Jimbo said.

Mario Pender's ankle is probably only 90 or 95 percent, Jimbo said. He still looks good but hasn't quite recovered since re-injuring it.

Mavin Saunders had the "best
day he's ever had today." Was really good on two or three blocks and showed his athleticism. Jimbo had a lot of good things to say overall about the tight end group.

Jacques Patrick also had a nice day. Jimbo talked about how impressive he was as a blocker, which is a good sign not just for a 230-pound guy but also for such a young player.
That's it for now. See you guys on Monday.

Still a bunch of updates on the second open day of practice today. FSU went in shells this morning on a cloudy day in Tallahassee. Away we go:

Guys who were participating today that were not on Wednesday: LB Terrance Smith, TE Mavin Saunders.

Not dressed today: LB Reggie Northrup, DE Chris Casher, LB/DE Delvin Purifoy, WR Kermit Whitfield, DT Derrick Mitchell, DT Adam Torres, WR Da'Vante Phillips. Most of those guys are holdovers who were not dressed on Wednesday.

Josh Sweat was there watching practice, but obviously not participating.

With Derrick Mitchell out today, Derrick Nnadi was getting in with the ones on defense.

Looked like Alec Eberle was getting a shot at first string center today. He was in there with the ones, and I saw Ryan Hoefeld working as a backup at guard at another point, but he also worked with the centers.

Some recruiting news: Notre Dame offensive lineman transfer Matt Hegarty was there today. Saw him watching offensive line drills, talking with Rick Trickett and a few other staffers.

More recruiting stuff: Marcus Lewis (2015 signee) was hanging out at practice today. A bunch of guys in future classes as well, including Ricky Aguayo (and his whole family), 2016 5-star CB Levonta Taylor, 2016 DE Nick Coe, and 2016 DE commit Janarius Robinson.

A few of you asked about the linebackers on Wednesday. With Terrance Smith back, he was working with the starters. Tyrell Lyons was the other one in there with the first team. Looked like Matthew Thomas and Ro'Derrick Hoskins were working with the backups.

Along those lines, I saw Demarcus Walker and Jacob Pugh with the first team defense working at DE.
That's all for now. Should be back after 1:00 with an update from Jimbo Fisher.
