Why do people agree to go on this show? Have they never seen star wars?

I think we assume folks are smarter or have more common sense than they actually do.

You also can't overestimate how camera hungry most folks in media/politics are.
I think confirmation bias is also at play.

It would be equally interesting/entertaining to see him prank politicians at other points on the spectrum.

Well I also think (assume) he's not telling Roy Moore in advance that he's going to interview him for the express purpose of using a pedophile detector on him. I'm pretty sure he springs that on them in the moment, and decorum (to their downside) dictates that they at least give it a shot.

Likewise, I doubt he told Dick Cheney he was going to ask him for "Dick pics" or to sign his waterboard kit, in advance.

Now that moron state rep from Georgia on the other hand...I don't think it would've mattered what anyone told him. He would've signed up for it b/c that guy is just plain stupid to the bone.

He tried Bernie Sanders and Ted Koppel with his disabled American veteran (who's not actually disabled or a veteran) character, but neither of them we're having any of it.

For every Bernie Sanders, there's a Corrine Brown (hopefully not incarcerated).

Over the years his characters have pranked folks all over the spectrum.
What Is America has been more focused on 'conservatives' because they're in control of 2 branches of gov't (perhaps 3 actually) in addition to a ton of state houses and governorships.

As Les mentioned, he also tried Bernie and Koppel.

As follow-up to Reed's question, I've always assumed subjects on tv shows, at least ones made to make money, sign releases giving permission for their part to be used. Not so?

I'm almost certain they sign a release before the cameras start rolling. Once they do that, they can't undo or take back what's recorded.

A lot of these folks likely have some lousy and/or lazy PR folks who are incapable of protecting them.

Lesson: if you're going to be a crappy person, hire good PR reps to at least help hide your crappiness from the world.

I'd be curious to see a copy of one of those releases. As in, what alleged production company is asking for it? Surely, Sasha Baron Cohen's name is nowhere to be found.

Why would he be required to release his own name? (Not saying that you're necessarily implying that...just wondering outloud).

He's not giving sworn testimony before a judge.

I suspect the production company and CBS/Showtime spent some good money on legal fees before taping began to make sure this thing didn't get buried by lawsuits and injunctions.

Not saying he'd put his name on it, just wondering what these folks thought they were signing: Release and permission to use footage obtained by GOTOneNightwithKhaleesi productions?

I'd sign that!

I was watching a clip from Joe Rogan, he had a guest who was involved in filming prank shows. They guy indicates there are 2 methods, rock solid release forms ahead of time or release forms signed after. This likely falls into the former, meaning the "victims" are not reading the release ahead and just going along with a standard form. I bet they sign a ton of them sign they spend so much time being filmed. Just as mentioned above, once the conversation went from clever to inappropriate, they simply can stand up and say, we are done here. Like the idiot from GA failed to do.

I agree, you'll also see people occasionally blurred out that they couldn't track down or refused to sign.

Did the college students in Borat sue because they were drunk when they signed the release?

This Cohen guy is a genius. That show is comedy gold no matter where your politics lay just to show how tone deaf these people really are.

It's amazing what some folks will say or do when given a microphone and encouraged to reveal their true selves.

I guess it's not really that amazing when you take stock of the average person.

He should interview the socialist chick from New York....just ask her a geography question or how she’s going to fund her Venezuelan type programs, it would be pure comedy.

Yeah.....he probably won’t!

Why would you want him to ask her abut things she doesn’t support?
Geography would be part of "free school" and mass socialized programs are a part of venuezelas government. Kinda like all her "free programs". But I'm sure dfs is watching this so I'll shut up ;)

Neither of these posts accurately describe her platform. They do describe the opposition's mischaracterization of it though.

And I also don't think Cohen would steer clear of an interview with her - not sure how you could even suggest that after he tried to get material out of Bernie.

You should watch some of her interviews, she’s a straight up airhead that would make his show funny. But he has an agenda.

Name someone on TV without an agenda. His is to provoke, entertain, and increase attention. He succeeds admirably and pulls no punches with any group.

I enjoy him because he is an equal opportunity comic. JMO
