SIAP. Masks required while a sitting in stadium?

While wearing medical grade masks is likely to protect others, the other gear being sold and promulgated is much less likely to provide that protection. If the non medical grade was indeed effective in protecting others, it would make sense for companies that make and sell such products to use this claim as a marketing tool. They don’t because they can’t.
I will still abide by the rule of wearing a mask at games, restaurants and other businesses if it means the economic shutdowns are avoided and employment is preserved. If by chance the spread of the virus is reduced-that would be equally awesome.
The evidence that the FDA would require to make a marketing claim on a device like a mask would take a long time and a lot of money. Then by association other companies could tag along. It would be prohibitive for the company...

If you want an associative proof, look at countries that adhere to mask wearing in public and check their infection numbers.

i.e. Japan. This is why I posted the numbers from Japan and compared them to the US.

it’s easy to say that companies would just market it. The burden of proof is too high to overcome in a short amount of time.

Apply the associative principle to this argument.

Go NOLES!

This is the situation in PalmBeach county and other countries that have MANDATORY mask regulations: you must wear a mask going into the facility. If it is a grocery store, liquor store, etc, you keep the mask on the whole time. If it is a gym or restaurant, you do not have to wear a mask when you work out (though some gyms still require it, I think LA Fitness does, but that is their regulation, not the county).or when you are seated at your table eating. If you get up to go the rest room or the bar, or to leave, you must put the mask back on. That is it. That is all. Seems doubtful that either Leon County or FSU would take the regulations further and require you to wear a mask while in your seats in the stadium next to your friends or loved one. That would be kind of stupid. But you would the mask at any time while walking into, out of, or around the stadium. Wearing a mask outdoors is sort of silly since there is very little chance of transmission outside unless you are literally in the face of someone who transmits it to you. Further, although I wear a mask all the damn time (have to at work), just like there are countries with decent covid stats that wear masks--there are countries without masks that have good stats too. Some of you need to realize that the Scandinavian countries basically do not wear masks much at all. And then of course you have the mystery of Africa--where no one wears masks and for some reason scientists can't figure out, three's not much of a covid presence outside of South Africa. Still further--how about Sturgis? 600,000 risk-takers clustered together drinking without social distancing or wearing masks. A perfect storm for Covid. There should have been thousands of cases from STurgis--hell, 6,000 direct cases from Sturgis would be only 1%. Yet there have been one a couple hundred despite the media looking high and low for them.

This from today’s Tallahassee Democrat:

FSU confirmed this week that masks will be required at all times inside Doak this fall and that each ticket will have a required entrance area to get into the stadium.

But there’s also this:

Additionally, beer will be sold once again inside Doak this season, but the beer garden will be closed due to social-distancing concerns. As such, fans will be allowed to take their beers to their seats for the first time.

Is being asked to wear a mask really that serious? I really don't understand people who make a big deal out of things like this. I guess its just being told to do something that some people don't like even if its for their own good.

Its like the zoo telling people please don't hang over the fence of the lion enclosure and people getting angry about being told not to.
Nobody wants college football games canceled but some people would rather be obstinate than follow reasonable rules. These precautionary rules are for the good of all so we can get back to some type of normalcy.

Can't wait to watch from Yellowstone! It's been so nice going out west where there is no mention, nor change to get it again for me.

Maybe it's because I want to be able to breath when it's 90 degrees out and no one is within 12 feet of me OUTSIDE. Sorry, this is ludicrous.

The mask is for your neighbor not you, it says “I care” nothing else. Get past to politics and bs. Do you have ABS breaks in your car? Do you wear a seatbelt? Until people view it as a public service to their neighbors who may be less healthy it’s frustrating. This is from a guy who is 41, fit active healthy and voted for trump & will again. I also work front lines at a level 1 trauma center. When my 3 year old goes into Lowe’s w me he wears a mask. Civil responsibility that’s all.

OK Karen

Most of these people who complain about wearing a mask complain no matter where they are being asked go wear them. They complain just because they are being asked to do something.

No, I complain because I"m being REQUIRED to wear a mask while sitting in a partially filled open aired stadium in 90 degree heat where NO ONE is within 12-15 feet of me.

Totalitarian really that is an awful big word 🤪 don’t go then we will miss you

So you are taking public health cues from an obese guy that claims exercise is bad for you and that windmills cause cancer? I think you need to re-evaluate some of your life choices.

Unnecessary. And untrue.

We wear masks as a courtesy to each other. Stay home. Your choice. .

Total props and respect to you but sorry, not sorry. Being required to wear a mask in an open aired stadium where people are spaced far more than 6 feet apart is a joke. It doesn't protect you from me or me from you... at all.. .it serves zero purpose. Now requiring them to be put on when getting refreshments or using the restroom, or any other thing where you may come in close quarters to others, I totally support. But not while seated in the stands. And yes, I'm not going. I give quite a bit of money to the school and will continue to do so. No matter what anyone thinks, I support my Seminoles.

A few dozen? Leon County added 530 new cases this weekend. We are officially on the hotspot map.
These kind of numbers keep up and there might not be any of us in the stands.
How many of those are in TMH? How many have died? How many were asymptomatic? And how many brought it with them from SoFla?
Leon County bubble on full display.

Let's just close down FSU. FAMU. State Capitol moves. Y'all can fight with Chipley over jobs. And life.
FRUSTRATION y'all.

Still no explanation of whether they are required while seated... "Masks are required" is a lazy explanation from FSU. EXPLAIN details.

I actually don't disagree all that much, but I thought you were saying no mask anywhere. My bad, and I'm glad you're sticking with our Noles!

Muted. I'm not going... particularly if I gotta hang with totalitarians like you.
Make a simple deal, no mask fine just sign a waiver declining medical treatment so myself and others don’t have to put our selves in harms way caring for you clowns. If you sign a waiver I’m good 👌🏻

Not sure how you arrived at all that from my post as it was merely to illustrate how positives in this county are up, not down.
As to how this relates to the future I don’t know. I hope only that we’ll all be watching from the stands.

Not really, I can see my Noles at home on the TV.

I'm all for doing what is needed to prevent something. Wearing a seatbelt in a parked car? No. Absolutely no reason one should have to sit in the stands with a mask on, with their own group. It serves no function.

I wear it when a business requires it, rest of the time, nope. All the bars here do not, and we are out all of the time. Guess what? We aren't running rampant on cases.

If this is gonna be like the parking, where after they rook us into tickets they cancel it, then I'll just sell my tickets for every game and then I won't be renewing. Between Thrasher and some of the ticket office decisions, I am starting to question whether I can trust some of these higher ups at FSU.

I always wanted a boat, so there is a place to redirect my funds to. If you think I need to sit at my seat, socially distanced in a stadium at less than 20% capacity, and wear a mask, you are a FOOL and I won't support you.

Being anti-lemming doesn't make me delicate. You can keep following off the cliff if you want.

enjoy your boat. Short ride to Mexico.

also waiver can be useful so insurance company doesn’t get stuck with the bill.

Yes sir. I agree 100%.
Bad decision bad health choices cost everyone bc even if your insured it increases the deductible the sicker the population the higher the healthy people pay for insurance

For those who want to support FSU when wearing masks see seminoles.com for some pretty cool choices .

my opinion from observed social interactions pre and during mask requirements is that masks seem to make people lazier with respect to distancing and more importantly, hand washing.

because you are wearing a neck gaiter or some fashion cloth to match your outfit does not mean you or anyone else is protected. a nearly 97% or greater transmission rate still occurs. as a minimum, people should be wearing properly fitted surgical masks but preferably 3M N95 respirators. If you are mask police and not wearing those 3M masks or an equivalent, then you're just a poser.

does this apply to all people with unhealthy lifestyles that expose us to harm or excess cost? 🤷‍♂️

Most people do not have access to N99, N95 or KN95 masks which are the preferred masks. Medical personnel need to follow all protocols to wear their N95 or N99 masks for the best fit and filtration.
3-Ply Medical or Surgical masks are more available to the public and have a non-woven melt blown filter.
Most cloth or fashion masks have an available pocket for an additional carbon filter that can help.

I believe another poster already posted the above video clearly showing that wearing a facial covering minimizes the spread of droplets vs not wearing one.

I agree with you that everyone needs to sufficiently wash their hands with soap and water very often. Adding a facial covering as an added protection can only help minimize droplets from a person who has the virus pass it to a person who has a weakened immune system or underlying conditions.

Based on a previous post, there are a lot of posters that unfortunately had to deal with cancer in their families. Cancer Stinks! I am one of those who has family members with weakened immune systems due to their history with cancer.

What i posted is the disclaimer on the fsu mask sales page. Cloth masks are good for catching snot. Like an elasticated handkerchief.

100% agree on protecting the vulnerable.

this data is from Johns Hopkins.

I have been to japan a few times, and on a regular basis I have seen a broader use of mask wearing.

I cannot state that my observation of mask wearing is why there are fewer deaths per thousand, but the numbers are the numbers.

COUNTRYCONFIRMEDDEATHSCASE-FATALITYDEATHS/100K POP.
US6,244,970188,5383.0%57.63

Go NOLES!

It is a reasonable observation but I work in healthcare and question the value of comparing the U.S. data to countries who have no real diversity in their population. Nearly 98% of all residents in Japan are of a Japanese ethnicity. According to the CDC link below, the virus has a much more serious impact on minorities generally

CDC Data

Also, I am not convinced that all countries are using the same metrics but interesting data none the less.
