Six Florida State soccer players were named to their respective national teams this past week as Jody Brown (Jamaica), Onyi Echegini (Nigeria), Heather Payne (Ireland) were each named to their respective country’s national while Taylor Huff and Lauren Flynn were named to the US Under-23 Youth National Team, and Maria Alagoa was named to Portugal’s Under-23 Youth National Team.

“It’s every player’s dream to play for their national team. It says a lot about these players – and a lot about our program – that we have six who will leave town this weekend to join their respective national teams,” FSU coach Brian Pensky said. “The ultimate goal is to go to a World Cup – which Jody Brown has already done with Jamaica. This weekend Jody, Heather and Onyi continue their efforts be their full teams at this summer’s Women’s World Cup. We wish them all well, and of course have full confidence that each will thrive.”

Brown was one of the most prolific attackers for the Noles this past season, scoring a career-high eight goals and 10 assists. The Jamaican was featured on the All-ACC First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-American Third Team.

Echegini was the team’s leading goal scorer with 11 goals on the season in just her first season as a Seminole. She earned two ACC Offensive Player of the Week awards and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

Payne started 16 games for the Noles and played in 18 total games on her way to being named to the All-ACC Third Team. She scored a career-high four goals for the Noles and also added four assists.

Flynn was a staple for the Seminole defense that recorded 11 shutouts as she started all 22 games.

Alagoa played in 21 games for the Noles totaling 702 minutes. Alagoa tallied three goals and three assists for the Noles in the 2022 season.

Huff, a transfer from Tennessee, was a First Team All-SEC honoree and a Third Team All-American for the Volunteers. She scored 10 goals while also adding five assists.

Bob,
Can you clarify if Payne will be back with the Notes next season?

Ireland and Nigeria will line up against each other in the same group at WWC.
