So What's the Story on the VT Player Wearing a Watch During the OSU Game?

Obviously not a "mistake" (i.e., he put it on OVER his game-taped wrist).

One of the strangest things I have seen. Seems like some players today are trying to "make some kind of statement" through various uniform alterations, etc......just not sure what this statement might have been.

It was actually a Casio G-Shock.

I am old, but to me it reflected poorly on VT and, to a lesser extent, the ACC (i.e., as in a sign of complete cluelessness as to how you conduct yourself on a big stage [like you have never been there before]). Almost like wearing shorts and flip-flops to someone's wedding, "oh my....that poor guy did not realize that you should not wear ___ to a ____." Whatever. A new one on me.

Peculiar for sure, not sure why.
But def don't think anyone took it as a reflection on VT or the ACC -- except maybe old people :)

how is that legal to wear in a game?

Some college sports allow jewelry, where their HS counterparts do not. Baseball and softball
come to mind in this practice.
Obviously NCAA football allows jewelry, or at least watches! I guess he had a need to know
what time it was at all times!! :)

Jesse Palmer did a story on Good Morning America today about it. The player said it reminds him that "Now is my time to shine" while he is playing. Why you need a watch to remind you that is kinda dumb, IMHO.

I think the story is that he was wearing a gold Rolex while playing.

Curious as to who gave him the cash to buy it?
I love this string of random assumptions and internet sleuthing. Warchant at its best.
You guys are magnificent!

In that vain: He's prob just OCD about being on time and freaks out if he doesn't know what time it is. I find that to be an admirable, though slightly neurotic, quality. Kudos to the young man.

Yeah the assumptions are funny... as already stated its a Casio GShock... all plastic... Just gold coloring... Does it look flashy? Sure but its only about $92 on Amazon...

Sorry. That picture above is clearly photoshopped. I can tell by the pixellation and from having seen many photoshops in my day.

He's a young thug who's illegally accepting gifts and money from boosters, and his wearing of a Rolex on the playing field is unsportsmanlike.

Former Dolphins all pro punter Reggie Roby always wore one while playing:

But it was definitely no Rolex.

Wonder if around halftime he looked at his watch and was like, "oh snap, I gotta be at Sheena's house at 10pm.", and left.

There are a bunch of dudes at work who are the same way -- these cats are always wearing their watches, I mean is that really necessary? They sit in front of computers and cell phones all day, the time is also posted on several wall clocks.

I think these pricks just want everyone to look at them and be like "ohhh Mr. Vandalay you must be sooo rich." Pompus egotistical a-holes.

Is the office really the right place to go around showing off like that? Ugh, this look-at-me culture has me so fed up!!

Casio G-shock?! I stand corrected. That's some cheap crap you can buy at a Walmart. He aight den. Poor fella.

I wonder if he just wanted to note the exact time at which VT blew the game and OSU took over.

When was his time to shine? You can shine a turd, it still doesn't make it a diamond.
