So you grew up in Florida, but

That is Sarasota area right? I hear Sarasota is really nice, but I havent been there. I like in between laid back and fun, if that makes sense. I was in Clearwater beach a couple weeks ago and watched playoff football and enjoyed it like I always do there, except the weather caught me for a surprise! This was the first year I went in winter, and I know it has been an abnormally cold year everywhere and I knew it wasnt going to be 85 degrees or anything, but I had no idea central florida could as cold as it was.
Yes, Sarasota Bradenton. Can get really cold. Been in the low 20s where I live quite a few times this year...

My old man spent time in most of the 69 counties for work and my brothers and I often traveled with him in the summer. I can’t remember hitting all of the western panhandle spots (I was born in the little sawmill town of Century north of Pensecola) or the far southwest, but have memories of most everywhere else. Only one trip to the Keys, but it was a great one.
I miss the old Florida spots that Dad would hit, not so interested in the newer developments. It seems like there is always a new town showing up that did not exist when I was a kid. For instance, how old is The Villages? Central Florida was such a cattle farm area that most today would never believe. Bramha cattle were everywhere.
Was it Saenole who referred to the old system of tags that were numbered 1-69 for the population of the counties? Leon was number 13 and we knew lots of them by heart.
69 counties?

I haven't been to Cedar Key and because of the song.....I feel like I should go there.

Its a nice little town geared toward the tourist trade. Some good restaurants, tourist shops, and mainly condo rentals for those that want to make a week of it. No big name hotels that I could see when I was there. That's probably what contributes to the charm of the town.

One of my favorite seafood restaurants in the country is located there, Tony’s Seafood. They won the world championship for Clam Chowder three years in a row and the organization put in a special rule banning three time winners so that someone new could win. And not only do they have amazing clam chowder, the rest of their seafood is five stars at well.

And hilariously, one of the city parks has a huge collection of medical butt plugs from a time when it was common to use that to literally blow smoke up someone’s dump.

You can get Tony's chowder in cans now. Publix around me normally has them.

Been there, done that...and I’ll never go back to New Port Richey

I was in NPR right after Christmas to visit our Granddaughter. If it wasn't for her, I would never go back either.

I have lived in FL all my life (60 years) and between work, vacations, and visiting family, I have been to every area of the state, and pretty much every county. I live in Tally and used to like to visit central and south FL, but not anymore.

We lived in NPR for less than a year when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. Double sessions in school...I just wasn't a fun place.

Grew up in South Florida. My parents moved from Ohio to Miami when I was 2 years old. Grew up in Homestead Fl. Did lots of fishing in the Keys. Have been to most major areas in Florida. Spend 2 weeks in Cape Coral in Winter. Love Florida to visit, but live in North Carolina now and life is good. Lots of good memories of my younger days in South Florida.

Went to South Dade HS. George Mira and Boog Powell played baseball against us and Mira was a Quaterback on their football team who played against us. Both went on to great Pro careers.

I can say I've been all over Florida. Grew up in WPB and now live in the western panhandle.
A lot of the travels came in the '80's when I was traveling playing softball.

Was that in WPB or when you move to DFS? I played tournament traveling ball from 81-90.

I have traveled through every county but have not visited every county. Visited most, hope to never go back to some.

I played on a team in Jackson Co, but we played ASA. Finished undefeated in the state in 88 but due to weather we lost a coin flip and was runner up. Finish runner up a few times and played in the nationals a few times in class B. Best national finish was 4th.
