Goofy looking dude. This won't end well for him.

Jury sided with Swift...the DJ was ordered to pay a symbolic $1.

Juries do interesting things...

She only sued for $1. I think it was more to make a statement.

Do you think her attorney will take his two quarters out of that?

A statement to guys like this tends to miss the mark. This is much better served as retribution. This guy will have some serious issues getting a job in the near future if ever. She doesn't need what little money he has and keeps all appearances of a person using their wealth and fame from picking on the little guy potentially making him a sympathetic figure.

Which I am fine with that too. He is a creep who made his bed and tried to use the legal system to take some of her money. He got what he deserves.

Good for her.

I presume her pleadings were open ended with respect to the amount of damages. When the damages are non-economic, most state courts allow you to plead (i.e., the words contained in the plaintiff's complaint or, in this case, counter-petition) it terms like: "an amount in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the Court." A jury is free to put down whatever amount they feel that the evidence supports. Here, it looks like the jury felt that she had been groped, but that she had not suffered any damages. Presumably, the fact that she is very rich and he was already fired and probably will not work again affected their decision.

The news article I read stated that she was suing for $1 before the jury made their decision.

Ok, I have not read up on her trial. Often times, the paper will write that the plaintiff is asking for some sum ($1,000,000) when it is really just a pleading to satisfy jurisdiction and not the actual damages sought. But she may have very well been trying this case on principles.

Donald Trump and the USFL won their anti-trust suit against the NFL, but the jury awarded Trump $3 (well, $1 from the jury which was trebled by statute) - even though he was asking for billions. Juries do weird things.

Right. But they didn't here. She was only asking for $1.

Unlike the USFL, where the jury decided that the damages were only worth a dollar, the jury isn't putting any kind of value on her claim, she only asked for a $1.

Well, that and all future earnings in his chosen profession. Still would ya?

Like I said earlier... truly doubting that his future earnings will be negatively impacted by this. Plenty of XM channels or mid-size markets he'll be able to latch on to and listeners to his program that will call in just to bash him or whatnot.

As I understand it, scumbag sued her and other defendants because he got fired. In her answer, she counterclaimed and demanded a dollar. So long as the court had jurisdiction over the plaintiff's claim, any related claims such as hers generally could be heard in the main action.

Wasn't loss of future earnings the basis of his claim?

For the record I don't condone unwanted touching

I was just joking around in LR fashion, or at least what was normal in the days of the old LR

Sorry to upset you, didn't mean to

But, answer this and it's my last post in this thread

If it was so bad why didn't she turn and slap the crap out of him?

Do you realize that if he actually did this, and she just let it go then she has become an enabler, right?

This is a civil trial, he sued and she countered

I am having a hard time understanding your getting upset about some LR fun when it appears mrs swift wasn't too offended by his actions, she should of had him arrested on the spot

Man, I miss the old LR

You obviously have zero idea what it's like to be assaulted, groped, harassed, especially in a very public situation (and I can't imagine what it would be like when it would happen if you're super famous and you're during a publicity event). We hope it was unintentional, that he didn't really mean to leave his hand right there as we walk by in a crowded bar. We keep walking when we're harassed because saying no often leads to being followed or threatened ("Hey, I'm just trying to make conversation!" "It was a compliment, can't you even say thank you?" "Why don't you smile?" "I'll still see you tomorrow."). We hope it just stops. We hope it's not actually happening. There is embarrassment and shame, even though there absolutely shouldn't be.

I don't know any woman under the age of, say, 45 who hasn't been harassed, groped, or assaulted in some way. One friend was raped by her best friend (they were teenagers...they'd known each other since early elementary school...they hung out all the time just as friends...and she said no, repeatedly, but he kept going and got her pregnant...she lied about the father and gave the baby up for adoption and got the hell out of Dodge).

Try reading this article. Maybe it will help. Maybe not. I'm sure for many of you, it won't make a bit of difference.
