In spite of the Cook suspension, I feel very good about Pender and Patrick. And I think Golson will be pushed by Maguire, but will ultimately come through as the starter to provide solid, if not spectacular QB play. Our OL looks decent on paper, though will be young and we'll have to see how things evolve. And our WR/TE corps looks scary good.
We may not be the most explosive FSU offense ever assembled, but we're going to be very good on that side of the ball.
On Defense, I see all kinds of question marks. I THINK our secondary will be okay and could be very good. But the big key to 2015 is the front 6.
I've watched all of our 2014 games several times. The absolute lack of push and inability to penetrate at all was the main factor to our wildly inconsistent Defensive play last year. Opposing teams imposed their will on our front six. We had no one up front who consistently did anything. A play here and there, sure. You'll always have that. But play in and play out, our front 6 were pushed back on their heels all year and generated no consistent penetration or pressure. All of our pressure came from blitzes and almost all of our penetration came from stunts.You cannot be a good defense if your defensive front gets mauled all year.
The key for our 2015 Defense is not Ramsey or Derwin or Marshall or anyone else in our secondary. The key is the beef up front. I have very little hope our LBers will be anything more than okay. And so I think the entire 2015 season boils down to NLS, Nnadi, Mitchell, Walker, Leonard, Pugh, Bryant, Featherston. If one of these eight guys learns to DOMINATE, and if the other seven all make plays and man up, we'll be okay on D. If these eight guys play soft, we do not have the LBers to back them up and we'll have a very similar year on D to last year. It's really that simple.
