Things That Are Overrated?

Good responses here are my 2 cents.

Way Overrated

The movies Titanic, Avatar, Avengers 1 & 2, Spiderman 1&2
Don Shula's Steakhouse

I 100% agree with you on Texas. Outside of Shiner Beer there's little I find worthwhile when you compare it to the physical beauty of its western neighbors (New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah) and the cultural beauty (food, music and art) of its eastern neighbor Louisiana (New Orleans and Acadiana). Heck, I've found you can get better steaks and country/"chicken" fried steaks in Oklahoma and better regional variations of Mexican in New Mexico and Arizona, plus I've never been a HUGE fan of their unseasoned (for the most part) "bbq".

I'm also 100% on board with Don Shula's steakhouse. I've even gotten sick from the one in Tally.

But Vegas? I give you a big fat 0%. Vegas is great, the only place I've had more fun is in New Orleans. And it really does cater to every taste. Want whores and drugs? Vegas has you covered. Family fun? No problem. Outdoor hiking? Head to red rocks and especially Valley of Fire. Food? Very few places better. It's just a smorgasborg of entertainment.

Deer hunting

Hey, let's cover ourselves in deer %*%^ at 4 AM and then sit in a tree covered in mosquitoes and red bugs until the deer we've been feeding errr baiting shows up so I can blow it away.

Pass.

Now what I WOULD be interested in is the actual sporting deer stalking like they do in Scotland.

Hearing you say "whores and drugs" is kinda awkwardly funny.

You're dead on about Texas. I've been there several times and I'm unimpressed as a state even though I love the Cowboys and the stadium there is awesome. Food wise and state beauty you're absolutely correct. Texas is nothing but flat sage brush not even in the same orbital beauty of Arizona or New Mexico.

I just thought Vegas was overrated I guess because we aren't much into the whole gambling thing.

Our mouths were watering the first time we went to Shula's in Miami. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OVERRATED AND OVER PRICED for the meals we received. Ruth Chris is much better.

Sorry to keep jumping in on the Vegas comments...

I went last month for the first time in my life...with a 14-year old. No gambling. Barely any drinking. I've never had more fun in my life. I am DYING to go back!

I love Texas Hill Country and Austin....

I'm fine with you bashing Stella, it uses corn syrup like a lot of the American adjunct "pilsners". But most real European pilsners are real beer aka only barley, yeast and hops. For example, Pilsner Urquell is not only a real Pilsner which means only malted barley, Saaz hops and Bavarian yeast but it's the original that all the others are trying to copy. The American adjunct "pilsners" are just chemical concoctions of corn syrup, rice sugars and/or wheat flour mixed with enough barley so they can claim it. So yes, Stella is a ^+^* "American" style "beer" but that doesn't mean all pilsners are. For myself I either go for the original (Urquell) or just admit I'm drinking swill and get the High Life.

Does Stella use corn syrup? Didn't know that. I do find it interesting that it is not sold in Belgium. They sell a beer named Jupiler which I found to be tasty.

I have a kegarator and my go-to keg is Spaten Lager which is so superior to any Budweiser etc it is immeasurable.

For those that overrated sex in the shower you either are doing it with the wrong partner or wrong shower. A nice large walk-in shower is best. One with the overhead rain shower head and the side jets. A nice shower bench comes in handy along with some well place handrails. Add a little steam. Plenty of room for movement and when your done you wash off. Multitasking at its best.

You just lost all credibility on BBQ with this. Texas BBQ doesn't require over seasoning and heavy sauces because it is cooked correctly. I get the Mexican food thing, but disagree. While San Antonio has a very heavy "Tex Mex" style copied throughout much of the country, Houston has a fresher more sophisticated Mexican cuisine that is as good or better than any other state. I do like the New Mexico and Arizona Mex, as well as Cali. Your just off your rocker when it comes to a fried steak, Texas does it best, bar none.

Now if you want overrated BBQ go to KC. Their BBQ is just bad. They don't know how to cook it so they overseason it, burn it and then cover it in sauce to try and make up for it.

Yes. When they list ingredients they'll hide it by calling it "maize" or sometimes "nonmalted grains" but they'll occasionally list it close to correct as "liquid stabilised corn". All really mean corn syrup.

Cattleman's in Oklahoma City has the best country/chicken fried steak I've ever had and quite amazing regular steaks especially for the price. I'm sure there's even better country/chicken fried steak places hidden in the sticks of Oklahoma.

Jupiler is the Bud Light of Belgium. If you drank more than one while you were there I feel badly for you.

Parades - stand for hours and fight crowds to wave at floats and catch junk thrown your way.
Fireworks - seen one seen them all
Owning a home - I mean good grief, basically in bonded labor for the next 30 years. Can't just up and move when a job opportunity comes along or your neighbors turn out to be dog poop. Not to mention the hidden costs - taxes, insurance, repairs and having to do sh.. yourself
Wedding prep and ceremonies - unless you're a gay dude or the bride. Bachelor parties can help some but the actual ceremony has nothing to do with you. It is for everyone else and only your physical presence is needed
Reality shows - Even Survivor, Big Brother, Bachelor/Bachelorette, Amazing Race, Fat people lose weight, American Idol/Voice/Dance/pubic hair pulling/whatchamacallit talent shows
Cable/Dish - Just get a fat pipe Internet connection for streaming, cut the cord and be done with it

Could not agree more. I am too scared to even think about how much I have spent on non-debt items like maintenance, remodeling (thanks, wife [although carpet and floor replacement cannot be avoided]), lawn care, termite prevention, tree trimming, insurance, etc., etc. The notion that you are "building equity" is complete nonsense, or at least grossly exaggerated. There are so many hidden costs of owning and maintaining these things.....yet we are hoodwinked at any early age to "be homeowners." Huge marketing con game engineered by lenders and builders.

Agree they are way overrated. Do they taste good? Sort of, I guess. But not like a donut should be.

Sort of like eating a spoonful of honey or whipped cream tastes good, but if someone gave you a spoonful called it NY Cheesecake, it would not be good NY Cheesecake.

And their non-glazed varieties are straight trash. I'm all about a Dunkin Donuts or Tim Hortons style donut...that's what a donut should be. There were places that had much better donuts than those when I was growing up, mostly bakeries, but that's the style I consider a real donut.
Dunkin Donuts are okay. Tim Horton's are horrible. Krispy Kreme has about 10 different varieties that are great. No accounting for someone else's taste, I guess.
