Heading to Sin City this weekend for a few nights. Been a while since I have been during football season. I typically love the Venetian sportsbook, but my buddy and I are staying at the Luxor this trip and that is a hike. Especially since our flight gets in only about an hour and half before kick-off Saturday. Anyone watched at MGM? Mandalay? others on that end?

Also what is the thought about FSU being +11.5-+12?

I just spent a weekend out there posted up at the MGM all day Saturday and Sunday. We love it. I prefer it to Mandalay Bay. Not sure what the other places do on drink tickets now but at the MGM it's one per $100 on games or $10 on races. Barry, Rich, Chris-- all at the bar in the sportsbook are great to talk sports with. We also chatted up Barkley all weekend we were there. Charles not Matt.

Wait...1 free drink for every $100 bet?

Dan, that isn't uncommon for Vegas sports books. They want your money before you get that "free" drink. Its a far better deal to pay $10 for a liquor drink and find a seat and chill than to try and make your drinks work by betting. Now that is not to say that I am not going to be placing some bets, but I won't be doing it to get the free booze.

Only problem, at least for Saturday, is that Wynn is at the far end of the strip from where I am staying. Was looking for more of the MB/MGM end, though I have liked what I have seen of Caesars when I walked through.

Oh and downtown isn't even a thought. I took a cab over there a couple of trips ago. While it was nice to say that I had seen downtown, it really wasn't my scene, other than the 100 play $.01 Video Poker. That was a fun time waster.

GO to Emeril's in the Venetian for the 3:30 games. Only get to stay for 1 set of games. Way off the strip, but the book at Green Valley Ranch is the best around. Huge, good drink coupons, nice values on bets.

If you get there early enough, I really like the Aria sportsbook. It is not very big, but nice area.

As far as FSU and the points, I wouldn't touch it. I honestly think we can and might play with them. But if they get on a roll, they could beat the crap out of us too. If we get in one of those funks like we have been in numerous times this season where we go three and out a bunch, then we are going to get torched. We have to be able to at very least control the ball and the clock a little bit. Go on some sustained drives and hopefully get some points to go with them. If we go three and out, they will beat us bad.

Exactly. The downtown area is not appealing. At all.

meh, i like the trashiness. The Freemont rock of ages show was fun and walking around with a couple of tall-boys and bouncing from cheap casino to cheap casino is fun. The strip is huge and full of douche meatheads laying down six credit cards to buy bottle service...

I'm a fan of the sportsbook at Caesar's. Just my personal preference. I'm envious. Football weekends in Vegas are great. The only non-gambling disappointment I see for you is your choice of hotel.

I agree 100%. I've always stayed either on the Strip or one of the big quality off Strip casinos like Red Rock or the Silverton, but the last trip my wife and I spent a couple of hours on Fremont and loved it. It's the closest feel to Bourbon Street I've found, far more so than Ybor or Beale Street. Next time I may stay at Main Street Station in downtown as I really liked it's antique vibe.

We (the FSU Alumni Association) meet at the Ale House in Town Square, which is not a far cab ride from the Luxor, if you are looking for a place to watch the FSU game.

Luxor was more chosen for me based on comps available. I had a room at Harrah's initially (say what you want about the gaming floor and conditions, but the rooms are nice), but Luxor offered more. Plus I haven't stayed there yet and I wanted to cross it off the list. Easier to do with a buddy who just wants a place to crash vs going to Vegas with the wife who wants nice food close and a good pool.
