I confess that I know next to nothing about him. Only that he was at Harvard in some capacity. I know that in academia, that is supposed to make you swoon but I've grown less impressed with that pedigree since they ran off Larry Summers for speaking obvious but politically incorrect scientific facts. It's only gotten worse since then. Nonetheless, I'm not going to judge him either way on that. Not overly impressed with Harvard anymore but won't hold it against him either.
So, where does he stand on our place in the football universe? Does he consider football to be a negative patriarchal institution unbecoming of a great university? (A mainstream view in large swaths of woke academia) Does he see it as an important and vital part of our tradition and pride? Is it part of FSU's appeal and something to be carefully stewarded and enhanced? Does he see it as vitally important to our interests? Or perhaps he sees it as vaguely unseemly to any institution aspiring to elite academic status? Furthermore, is he inclined to feel some sting of embarrassment at our mascot when he visits his old colleagues in Cambridge? We all know that academia frowns on some of the things that we cherish at FSU. Does he reflect that or does he go to bat for us? These are some of the questions that I have which surface at this agonizing moment of swirling change. Who have we chosen to lead our university through this time? Anybody have any reassurances you can lend to me? Or is this one more thing to worry about?
