What are the pros and cons of your job/work/career?

40+ years of land use planning and environmental protection in Florida.

Cons - fired by two governors, way too much time at the legislature, hundreds of public hearings and controversies, recurring feelings of failure.

Pros - Now I'm an old dog working on my own providing expert testimony at hearings and legal proceedings, I charge more than I care to say, turn down 2/3rds of job offers and do most of my work in Central and South Florida.

DFS - I have assisted several clients in Walton County and appreciate the work.

The other pro is I can pretty much control my work schedule allowing me to obsessively attend FSU sporting events, all sports, I could really use a dedicated parking spot on campus.
I'd bet I'd recognize your name if I heard it. Are you going to the Fl APA conference in WPB?

I remember you talking about your planning analysis for Hillsborough County!

No FAPA for me - I used to go every year but cost looks a whole lot bigger now that it would come from my wallet.

The conf was at The Breakers a couple of times; we crashed a big rock and roll staff party there once, the after party over in WPB featured girls in little black dresses dancing on the bar. Wild and crazy.

Enjoy yourself.

Con: I have been in Sanger, Texas since Monday

Pro: none. See above.

Director of Sales & Marketing at a non-profit that provides legal training.

Pro:
-Office is 8 miles from the house
-Flexible schedule. I can come in when I want and leave when I want as long as work gets done. Same goes or my staff. I can also work from home when I don't feel like driving in the snow.
-Work life balance: I never missed an event for my kids. If there was an 8am ceremony at school or a 3:30 baseball game I could be there
-Good benefits: For a non-profit to have a 401k match program is pretty sweet
-I like the work: I don't have a legal background but have found the industry to be interesting and I like the part my team and I play in fulfilling the mission

Con:
-Non-profit pay: we trade money for sunshine and everyone here probably could make at least 50% more by doing the same job for a corporation.
-It's in Colorado: Only a con because we are hoping to move by the end of the year and searching for a job 2000 miles away is a tough go.
-Lawyers egos: not so much for our customers but our faculty and Board. They are big dogs at their firm or organization and think they also know how to market, do finance, run meetings, etc.
