What are your favorite businesses?

Bought mine in a place called "The Barn"

I think the OP is referring to brand loyalty/customer experience as opposed to the corporation itself and how it operates, ethics, etc.

No, I’m interested in the businesses you like and why you like them. That is not a limited question. It could be because you like their products, their politics, their business philosophy, you like them as an an investment, your Grandpa worked there and they always treated him right. Whatever. I’m just interested in the businesses you like and why.

Thank you for the those of you who have taken the time to answer so far. Some very interesting answers.

I plan on giving a few of these a look. Hell I may even have the FOS at Applebee’s

My daughter started working at Starbucks a year ago and I have been very impressed with their treatment of employees. From the local baristas to corporate employees the benefits offered are amazing. I still prefer DD for a cup of coffee but she brings me a pound of Starbucks a week so I'm not complaining.

Ha, nope, am not. The line.... thats a really good question. Perhaps not drawing it, but at least acknowledging that one exists is a step. So again, when people say a company is a "good company" what does that mean?

Amazon just raised the minimum salary for all employees to at least $15. I'd say thats a pretty good step towards being a "good company". Exroomie works for Amazon in S FL and he says its an amazing place to work. Walmart (no one listed) seems to still be at $11 min and require a fair amount of govt assistance to many employees.

Chic Fil a, I do disagree with some of the political positions they take, but they seem to have the best service and cleanest stores and food seems to always be good.

Just asking the question.
I'd buy roasted dog on a stick from a North Korean street vendor if they put out a consistent and good product.

Amazon garnered praise for raising the minimum wage for its hourly workers to $15 yesterday, but the widely-publicized move also came at the expense of monthly bonuses and stock options.

Amazon warehouse worker told The Verge via email that the news was devastating to fulfillment employees, many of whom depend on their RSU and VCP (variable compensation pay, a performance-based monthly bonus program) incentives on top of their hourly wages. VCP incentives, which are dependent on good attendance and hitting productivity targets, could get Amazon workers an 8 percent monthly bonus, and a 16 percent bonus during the peak November and December seasons.

Just wondering who you think is a good business that you enjoy patronizing, or that you think adds to the fabric of your life? And why?

REI. Great diversity of outdoor gear. Outstanding, knowledgeable staff. Company advocates for conservation of special places.

Avenza Map Pro: Allows me to hike in wilderness areas, with no trails, and still understand where I am and what kind of terrain I'll encounter. Hiked for about 12 hours one day in the most remote part of of Iceland, with bad weather closing in, and never had a worry that I was lost. Same story for hiking in the middle of nowhere Colorado a few months back. Paid about $15 for the app.

Trip Advisor: A great asset for traveling to places that are less visited and having insight into restaurants and things to do in far flung destinations.

Air BnB: Love the experience of being able to make a closer connection with folks when we travel. Plus at a lower cost.

Sweet Grass Dairy: Great food at the restaurant. Great local cheese maker. Strong community connections.

Netflix: Great bargain. Allows me to watch BBC programming that I would otherwise miss.

Uptown Cafe: nice local restaurant with great ties to local community and strong support for local charities.

CFA: Love the customer service.

Kind of a shame that the richest man in the history of the world cannot figure out how to pay employees wages that mirror his own successes. He doesn't have to make the all millionaires, but it can be done.
