He seems to be absent on these matters and I would like to hear his plans to protect the students? They should be able to walk to their car late at night or in the morning after studying without worrying about a gun being shoved in their face. This is not good for Florida State University and it's just one story with many not being reported in the media.

Florida State has limitations on what it can control. It’s not a gated campus so anyone can drive through campus at any moment of the day. FSUPD is one of the largest units in the country and is very active on campus 24/7. I’ve worked on four college campuses including FSU and I’ve seen less of these incidents at FSU than the others. Quite frankly, FSU can’t control if someone comes on campus and targets someone. However, there are dozens of preventative measures that students can utilize to avoid walking alone late at night including calling FSUPD to ask for a lift to their vehicle.

It was 2AM.

The University's is surrounded by low income residential areas.

They can never eliminate crime. Never.

They should do a bit better of a job of making people aware about how risky campus can be at night.

It's been a few years since I was a student but it was an extremely safe campus. You didn't want to be in french town or that area north of taco bell

So one robbery on campus means that thrasher is soft on crime and its running rampant on campus?

I assume before you posted your question you researched crime statistics for FSU over his presidency as well as previous administrations...

This isn't a new problem nor is it the only one that's taken place under his watch. It's been happening for years. But continue on about your statistics while ignoring the safety of children and students.

Crime has skyrocketed in tallahassee .. including murder .. Tallahassee is #1 in crime in florida or close in
several catagories including murder. Some .. not much will spill over to campus. Dont expect the policies
that created it to change at this time so may be bad for a while. .. probably still not a big issue on campus
but hard to say?

You come across as if you have an agenda bigger than crime on campus

I got robbed at knife point when I was a student. Tallahassee government is by far the most crooked in the state which surely make things worse. The locals lack of desire of real economic development is also a major problem due to lack of decent jobs unless you work for the state or for FSU.

My good friends in college were victims of a home invasion, beaten up and held at gun point. I was next door and had no clue anything out of the ordinary was happening until they ran over banging on my door all bloody screaming to call 911. They eventually caught the guys and one had a warrant out for attempted murder.

Also my car was in the crosshairs of a shootout over drug deal gone bad at an off campus student apartment I lived in.

My agenda is seeing it first hand and then continuing to see the violence played out six years later. I haven't even mentioned the break ins that took place at friends apartments and homes while they were out of town.

Seems like you want FSU to provide off-campus security as well.

There is an overflow of crime and violence from the community onto the campuses of TCC, FSU, FAMU and in surrounding areas where a significant portion of students live off campus.

Something should be done to protect kids on campus and off who are just trying to go to school and better themselves.

Didn't realize we had so many crime advocates on here who favor students being robbed and held at gunpoint.

Sounds like a whole lot of rustled-up DeSantis voters in this thread, lol. I lived in Frenchtown and on the south side all through college, and after, as a privileged white kid. Never had a single problem, let alone a fraction of what I've experienced in Ocala, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Amelia Island, Coral Gables, Lake City, Bradenton, etc. The idea that Tallahassee is crime ridden, when compared to literally any other town in the entire state, is an absolute joke.

There's a segment of the population that watches a certain entertainment "news" channel, that's easily convinced crime is rampant and it's all the fault of "certain somebodies." Give me a break.

Yes, we actually have a crime advocates meeting on Thursday's at 9. There are usually free donuts and coffee. The meth, coke and crack are strictly BYO. Weapons are encouraged. We discuss better ways of robbing students and holding them at gunpoint. You make a good point and we will try to reach out to Thrasher as a special guest speaker because obviously he advocates for crime against students.
