Soccer FSU finishes off regular season with 1-0 win at Miami

FSU sports information:

The No. 6 Florida State soccer team (12-2-2, 7-2-1 ACC) concluded the regular season with a 1-0 victory over in-state rival Miami (5-8-4, 1-6-3 ACC) on Thursday night. The Seminoles qualified for the 2024 ACC Women’s Soccer Tournament, FSU has appeared in all 30 tournaments since the program’s inception.

The Seminoles controlled the early run of play and were able to create some dangerous chances. Marianyela Jiménez received the ball and dashed into the box, before making a deft move to send the Miami defender sliding and fired a low driven shot to force a save from the Miami goalkeeper.

As the first half drew to a close, FSU made seven substitution changes. Minutes later, Ashlyn Puerta made a quick throw-in to Olivia Lebdaoui who flicked the ball to Camille Ashe, Ashe followed suit and flicked the ball to Wrianna Hudson. Hudson controlled the ball off her chest, fired her half-volley shot low and away, and put the Seminoles up just before the break. All four players linked in the build-up of the goal had come off the bench.

Florida State nearly doubled its advantage off Solai Washington’s tight near post shot that was only met by the Hurricanes’ keeper’s outstretched leg. FSU finished through the remainder of the second half and clinched its spot in the ACC Tournament.

The Seminoles now hold a five-game winning streak over Miami and end the regular season with four straight victories. Hudson has recorded a point in four straight games and scored four goals in the last four appearances.

Florida State will host an ACC First Round game against either North Carolina or Notre Dame on Sunday night. The complete bracket will be announced by the ACC on Friday.
