Football Week 13 college football rankings, who is in your top 12 heading into tomorrow's CFP rankings

It was another great week in college football and the new AP and Coaches Polls came out last night. The new CFB Playoff rankings come out Tuesday. Who do you have going into the playoffs with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Here are mine:

1. Oregon
2. Ohio State
3. Alabama
4. Penn State
5. Georgia
6. Ole Miss
7. Texas
8. Notre Dame
9. Tennessee
10. SMU
11. BYU
12. Indiana (only have them in because they are currently undefeated vs. a less than hard schedule. If they get beat bad by Ohio State this week, I am not sure they will get in the playoff).

Boise State is the highest ranked P5 team so they would knock Indiana out. I have Boise at 18, they either aren't as good or haven't played as difficult a schedule as 13 thru 17)

13. South Carolina
14. Texas A&M
15. Colorado
16. Clemson
17. Miami
18. Boise State

Football Change at the top on FSU's Charleston Southern week depth chart

There are a few changes to FSU's depth chart coming out of the bye week but one thing stands out: Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek are now listed as co-starters at QB.

Football Updates: Mike Norvell meets with the media to discuss bye week, FSU's final two games

Coach Mike Norvell will hold his weekly press conference on Monday at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the bye week and preparations for Charleston Southern as well as Florida.

We also expect interim defensive coordinator Randy Shannon to speak to the media after Tuesday's practice.

"Inside Seminole Football" will also return from the bye week with Mike Norvell, K.J. Kirkland and Josh Storms.

Basketball Mohegan Sun Info & Roll Call

Hey all! Super excited that the Noles are coming to CT next Friday. I am a frequent visitor to Mohegan Sun so I figured I'd those of you who are going some information. @Bob Ferrante and anyone else, feel free to share the information with anyone you know who is coming.

First, if you have never been, Mohegan is a world class casino in the middle of nothing. It is consistently named one of the best casinos in the USA. There are tons of available parking so that won't be an issue for those that drive or rent cars. The hotel can be expensive to stay at, but there is a Hyatt roughly 5 minutes away that has a shuttle service back and forth with the casino.

There are a lot of dining and nightlife options. Some of my favorite include Micheal Jordan's steakhouse, TAO, Landsowne Irish Pub. I would highly suggest getting reservations as it will be a busy weekend. For drinks, there is a country bar on site that has good nightlife scene. Also, Avalon is a top notch club (expect a high cover). But my fav spot is Vista Lounge, that is where you will definitely find me after the game.

Around Uncasville, if you are spending the weekend in CT, I would definitely head to Groton to check out the sub base. Or if you have a lot of time, head down to New Haven. Walk around Yale's campus, check out the older, fun bars there.

If enough people are coming up, maybe we can all meet up before & after at one of the spots, turn it into an FSU scene. Feel free to message or reply here w/ any questions. Go Noles!

Football Has Norvell's two-quarterback game plan worn thin?

Both Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek are struggling mightily in recent weeks. But the production around the two of them has not helped them in the slightest. While the strategy likely won't change all that much in the final few weeks of the season, has Norvell's plan for giving both quarterbacks series in the game starting to wear thin? Not only on them but the fanbase as well.

Football Hot board: Who could be FSU's next offensive coordinator?

Mike Norvell is always going to be heavily involved in the offense, calling plays throughout his career as a head coach while making the receivers a focal point of his coaching in practice.

Will Norvell continue to call plays or give up those responsibilities? Will he hire someone who he has familiarity with, working alongside or has competed against? Will FSU’s scheme stay the same or will changes be subtle or dramatic?

As that hiring cycle kicks off, here are some names assembled by the Osceola staff to keep an eye on with regard to who could be FSU's next offensive coordinator.

Football Recruiting Tramell Jones Jr. still recruiting hard for FSU, confident in Mike Norvell

The Seminoles QB commit for the 2025 cycle was back on campus this weekend and was donning a recruiting hat. He spent a lot of time talking with Cocoa (Fla.) WR Jayvan Boggs and Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside TE Tae'Shaun Gelsey, both of whom were officially visiting this weekend.

Stadium Seating next year/selection

I am not likely getting tickets, but my FIL is going to keep donating enough to pay for tickets going forward and offered them to me. It will still be his account (they won't transfer it) but I am the contact now. I know he wanted to help me, but I was really ready to be out of this.

That said, I got a text and info on seats. I don't want to do a presentation so just asked for info. Am I seeing this right that the initial 15k per seat for Zone 1 is 3k now? And the annual seat price has dropped from 4k to 2k a year? I may end up with seats anyway if so. But if this is correct, they greatly misjudged what folks would pay.

Here are the current numbers for the West Side.

Zone 1 820 out of 3400 sold

Zone 2 165 out of 2200 sold

Zone 3 51 out of 2300 sold

Those do not look promising. I was thinking maybe they just have not gotten that far into accounts and those will fill up fast, but the fact the pricing has already dropped so much suggests it's not just that. This may be a problem. @Jerry Kutz What say you?

EDIT TO ADD- this has been cleared up. We were told numbers based on the physical location of our old seats. Those are now in the club. But other Zone 1 seats between the 30s are only 3k capital contribution and 2k per seat each year for tickets (includes booster donation).

Sorry for confusion. They’re just now getting commitments for zone 1. I think they’re getting to silver next? If you commit, it’s to a zone and NOT seats. Seat selection will be next spring by priority points (we’re 88 on total points so we’d have good options im sure). If you don’t like your seats, I don’t think you have to stick to pledge. But I’d check that.

No. 10 SMU defeats FSU volleyball in three sets

FSU sports information:

The Florida State volleyball team (18-8, 10-6) fell to No. 10 SMU (21-6, 13-3) in three sets (16-25, 28-30, 16-25) on Sunday afternoon.

Taylor Head got off to a good start for the Noles in set one as the teams traded points throughout the first half of the set. SMU got hot in the middle of the set and finished the set with a 13-3 run to take the first set 25-16.

Set two was very competitive from start to finish as no team led by more than three in the entire set. FSU had its chances as they were up 22-19, but SMU fought back to tie it at 23. A kill from Head gave the Noles set point but was unable to convert as SMU tied it at 24. FSU was unable to capitalize on its next four set points as SMU took set two 30-28.

FSU had an early lead in set three, but SMU used a 9-2 run to take set three and the match.

Head and Audrey Koenig led the Noles with 10 kills each.

FSU will return home on Friday to take on No. 15 Georgia Tech in Tully Gym at 6:30 p.m. on ACCNX.

No. 1 Pitt defeats FSU volleyball

FSU sports information:

The No. 22 Florida State volleyball team (18-7, 10-5) fell to No. 1 Pitt (24-1, 14-1) in three sets (18-25, 15-25, 15-25) on Friday night in Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.

Pitt kicked off the first set with the early lead until Taylor Head earned a key kill to make the match 6-2 in favor of the Panthers. Senior Audrey Koenig earned back-to-back kills later in the set to cut the Pitt lead to 17-10. The Panthers would go on to win the first set 25-18.

Florida State responded with an early 6-5 lead in the second set after a kill by Khori Louis. The Panthers dominated the second set as they went on to win 25-15.

The Seminoles went on a 4-0 run in the third set to cut the Panther led to 9-10. However, the Pitt offense went on a couple runs, helping the Panthers secure the 25-15 third set and victory.

Offensively, the Seminoles earned 27 kills and 7 blocks. Koenig led the offensive effort with 11 kills and one ace. Sophomore Kyleene Filimaua secured five kills, four digs, and two blocks on the night.

The Seminoles will be back in action this Sunday as they travel to SMU at 2 p.m. on ACCNX.

Buyout costs

I know many are excited about the fact that Mike let three go and will be letting more go. It had to happen (and it sucks on a personal level) but it's not assured to fix things. I think we are in a nasty spot now where coaches we get are going to to awesome because they have giant balls to step in here when Mike could be gone in a few years and they do that because they are so confident. Great. The others are those who may not really be that great and their schools don't fight too hard to get them. But either way, the issue of how long Mike is here comes into play.

I have tried to narrow down the *real* cost if we let Mike go. It's not as simple as counting years and multiplying his salary.

Mike moved to $9.875M for this year. His salary bumps a little each year and his last year (31) is around $10.835M. I think it's fair to consider his salary average from next year to end at around $10.5M.

His deal ends in 31, so he coaches through the 31 season if I have that right. He's already paid for this year, so any buyout would be based on 7 years still due if he was fired this year. He won't be, but I want to do the math anyway. Many just assume it's around 73M by simple multiplication, but it's not. We don't pay him the full value. Our deal is that he gets 85% of what's due if he's fired. That means it's really more like $8.925M a year. Not firesale, but better.

We also don't pay a lump sum. We owe him his 85% of it paid over the years as if he was an employee.

This triggers some present value analysis. I am NOT a math/econ guy so had to rely on web calculators. But if I put in 7 years of the 85% salary number I get 62.475M total, and if I apply a seven year PV calc at 4% (no idea if that is close), I get $47.475M as the value today. And I would surely imagine they'd negotiate from there.

It's still really bad, but I do think at all steps here we have to look at that number as we bring in more coaches and commit to more buyouts if this does not work.

FSU women's cross country to compete at national championships

FSU sports information:

The No. 24 Florida State women’s cross country team will be competing at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships after receiving an at-large bid on Saturday evening.

The championship race will take place on Saturday, November 23 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course in Madison, Wisconsin. The women’s 6k race will begin at 10:20 a.m.

The 24th-ranked women’s team is coming off an impressive performance at the NCAA South Region Championships on November 15, where the Noles captured four All-Region honors and a third-place overall team finish.

"These women were counted out the entire season," FSU coach Cody Halsey said. "It fueled their fire every day, every training session, every long run and every weekend. I can’t express how incredibly proud I am of their constant hard work, dedication and trust in each other and the process. We are very excited for one more race to cap off an incredible season.”

Football Examining Mike Norvell's offensive coordinator track record to find trends

Given the results of this season, it's quite possible Mike Norvell goes in a very different direction from his past offensive coordinator hires. But if Norvell does make a similar hire, what does his track record of OCs tell us he might be looking for?

I looked into the trends of his history of OCs.

Basketball FSU basketball's late charge comes up short vs. No. 20 Florida

The FSU basketball team dug itself too big an early hole tonight vs. No. 20 Florida and the comeback bid came up short. The Noles have lost four straight games to the Gators.

Baseball Seminole Sidelines: Link Jarrett talks fall ball, reflects on 2024 season

I caught up with FSU baseball coach Link Jarrett this week to talk about what he'll remember about the 2024 season, his early impressions of the new members of the 2025 team and what this team's identity could be.

Give it a listen here or you can watch it on our Youtube.

Cross Country FSU runners earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors

FSU sports information:

The Florida State Cross Country teams competed at the NCAA South Regional Championship at Apalachee Regional Park on Friday morning. Using the home course advantage, the Seminoles earned seven USTFCCCA All-Region honors.

Leading the 24th-ranked women’s team Agnes Mctighe, Bieke Schipperen, Elizabeth Barlow and Brooke Mullins finished within the top 25 of the women’s 6k, earning All-Region. Mctighe placed fourth, marking her best finish and first career All-Region honor. Schipperen followed McTighe, placing 5th at 20:03.8. Barlow captured her first All-Region accolade, placing 17th with a time of 20:25.4. Mullins crossed the line in 20th at 20:28.2. Anna Sentner rounded out the scoring five in 60th with a time of 21.08.8.

The women have captured at least one All-Region runner since 1999.

"I can’t express how incredibly proud I am of this group,” said FSU head coach Cody Halsey. “Each of them had a job to do and they executed it perfectly, they ran with tenacity, guts, sheer, will and dedication. I’m beyond grateful for their trust in each other as well as what we do, day in and day out”

FSU placed third with 106 points, finishing behind No.18 Florida and ahead of No.16 Tennessee.

"We couldn’t have done it without all the support. The energy out there today was electric, it was incredible,” added Halsey. “I was so touched at the backing of our athletic department as well as the FSU community. It played such a valuable part in our race.”

Joe Farley led the Seminoles in the men’s 10k, collecting his first career All-Region honor after placing 11th with a time of 30:16.7. Cloud finished 15th (30:27.1), followed Leachman in 17th (30:28.9). Coleman Cronk (30:59.2) in 33rd and Lucas Bouquot was the final FSU scorer in 36th (31:08.1).

"Couldn’t be happier with how the guys executed,” said assistant coach Ian Frazier. “We’ve trained all year to be a team that thrives with the extra challenge of the 10k, and today the men delivered on that. I’m also happy that they’ve reinvented themselves as a squad that moves with purpose and intention through the race, because that’s what it takes to be an elite team in the NCAA. All told, these guys trusted themselves and ran with tremendous heart today.”

The Seminoles placed fourth (112).

The NCAA Championship field will be unveiled on Saturday at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com
