Roster Management - Needs in the portal

QB
1 - Tommy Castellanos (SR)
2 - Brock Glenn (SO)
3 - Kevin Sperry (FR)

Comments: FSU is not going to sign another QB this year. The QB position is set. They signed a prospect out of Georgia who will take Trevor Jackson spot. (Prediction - O Transfer Portal Addition)

RB
4 - Kam Davis (SO)
5 - Jaylin Lucas (SR)
6 - Roydell Williams (SR)
7 - Caziah Holmes (SR)
8 - Sam Singleton (SO)
9 - Ousmah Kromah (FR)

Comments: I could see Danzy ending up back at RB at some point. I doubt FSU tries and picks up anyone out of the portal. Kromah is going to get a legit shot at winning the job. I still think Kam Davis can do well in this offense. He is a ground and pound type back. I think he can help in short yardage and near the end-zone. I still have faith that Davis will do something at FSU. Lucas needs to be this teams version of Chris Thompson. Holmes and Williams are not the answer. If these guys get major snaps, FSU run game will not be good. Singleton is caught in the numbers. I do think he can be a productive back just not sure it happens at FSU. FSU run game comes down to Kromah living up to his potential. (Prediction - O Transfer Portal Addition)

WR
10 - Duce Robinson (JR)
11 - Squirrel White (SR)
12 - Camdon Frier-(FR)
13 - BJ Gibson (FR)
14 - Lawayne McCoy (FR)
15 - Elijah Moore (FR)
16 - Jayvan Boggs (FR)
17 - Teriq Mallory -(FR)
18 - Tae'Shuan Gelsey (FR)
Micahi Danzy

Comments: When you look at the roster the biggest issue is you have 6 either freshman or red-shirt freshman at WR. White and Robinson are your only two upperclassmen. I talk about Roster managment all the time. This is not what you want at any position. If Bert Reed, Richard Goodman and Rod Owens can be productive FSU than Frier, Gibson, McCoy, Moore and Boggs should all be able to produce. FSU needs someone with some experience so I could see them taking a G5/FCS level receiver to come in and compete for starting minutes. (Prediciton - 1 Transfer Portal Addition)

TE

18-Landen Thomas-SO
19-Randy Pittman (JR)
20-Markeston Douglas (SR)
21-Chase Lofton (FR)

Comments: I actually like the TE room. Thomas, Pittman and Douglas give FSU three tight ends that MN can trust. The reports I heard about Lofton is that he may be one of the top players to come in this past recruiting class. That is a good thing as Lofton will have a legit shot to start or contribute in 2026. I don't see FSU going after another TE unless it is at discount rate. (Prediction - O Transfer Portal Addition)

OL

23 - Jonathan Daniels (OG/OT) (FR)
24 - Bryson Estes (OG) (SR)
25 - Tye Hylton (OG) (FR)
26 - Manasse Itete (OT) (FR)
27 - Richie Leonard (OG) (SR)
28 - Andre Otto (C/G) (SO)
29 - Jacob Rizy (C) (SR)
30 - Lucas Simmons (OT) (SO)
31 - Jayden Todd (OT) (FR)
32 - Mario Nash (OT) (FR)
33 - Chastan Brown (OT) (FR)
34 - Sean Poret (OG) (FR)
35 - Chavez Thompson (OG/C) (FR)
36 - Luke Petitbon (OG) (SR)
37 - Micah Pettus (OT) (SR)
38 - Adrian Medley (OG) (SR)
39 - Gunnar Hansen (OT) (SR)

Comments: FSU would like to have 19 scholarship lineman. Right now they are at 17. If I had to guess you will have Luke Petitbon (C), Richie Leonard (G), Adrian Medley (G), Gunnar Hansen (OT) and Pettus (OT). I feel that Otto, Rizy, Simmons will all get reps this season. FSU still needs a tackle. (Prediction - 1 Transfer Portal Addition)

Interior Lineman
40 - Jamorie Flagg (DT) (SO)
41 - Darrell Jackson (DT) (SR)
42 - Daniel Lyons (DT) (JR)
43 - KJ Sampson (DT) (SO)
44 - Kevin Wynn (DT) (FR)
45 - Mandrell Desir (DT) (FR)
46 - Tyeland Coleman (DT) (SO)
47 - Jayson Jenkins (DT) (JR)

Defensive Line/Edge
48 - James Williams (SR)
49 - Deante McCray (SR)
50 - Deamontae Diggs
51 - Darryl Desir (FR)
52 - Tylon Lee (FR)
53 - Lajesse Harrold (FR)
54 - Amare Williams (SO)
55 - Jaden Jones (SR)

Comments: FSU needs some guys up front. I like what they have in the interior. I actually think the inside of the DL will be alright. It is outside that I have concerns. Where is the pass rush going to come from. Amare Williams is very gifted but he is now learning a new position. He is probably a year away. (Prediction - 2 Transfer Portal Addition)

LB

56 - Ethan Pritchard (FR)
57 - Elijah Herring (SR)
58 - Caleb LaVallee (SO)
59 - Stefon Thompson (SR)
60 - Justin Cryer (JR)
61 - Omar Graham (JR)
62 - Blake Nichelson-(JR)
63 - Shawn Murphy (JR)
64 - Jayden Parrish (FR)
65 - Timir Hickman Collins (FR)

Comments: With the scheme that FSU runs now, I could see them wanting to add one more backer. I do think they have some capable bodies at linebacker. It will be interesting to see how these guys play in the new scheme. Can they add an upgrade here? If so look for FSU to bring in one more portal backer (Prediciton-1 Transfer Portal Addition)

DB
66 - Ashlynd Barker (JR)
67 - Cai Bates (FR)
68 - Shyheim Brown (SR)
69 - Jamari Howard (FR)
70 - Conrad Hussey (JR)
71 - Quindarrius Jones (JR)
72 - Edwin Joseph (SO)
73 - KJ Kirland (FR)
74 - Ricky Knight (FR)
75 - Charles Lester (FR)
76 - Earl Little (JR)
77 - Jabril Rawls (FR)
78 - Antonio Cromartie (FR)
79 - Gregory Thomas (FR)
80 - Max Redmon (FR)
81 - Shamar Arnoux (FR)

Comments: The scheme FSU runs now they need lots of guys in the back end of the defense. FSU has talent in the secondary. They will probably add a couple of more guys through the portal. Look for them to bring in some safeties. They have plenty of corners. (Prediction-2-3 Transfer Portal Addition)

K/P
82 - Brunno Reus (FR)
83 - Jake Weinberg (FR)

Golf PGSF FedEx Cup Week 17 The Zurich Classic of New Orleans

shane-rory-belt-trophy.jpg

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is the lone team event on the PGA TOUR schedule and once again features plenty of the game’s best playing in a unique format.
This is the eighth year the Zurich Classic has been played as a team event. Each duo starts the week playing Four-ball (best ball) before switching to Foursomes (alternate shot) for the second round. Saturday’s third round will once again be Four-ball before returning to Foursomes for the final round.
Up and down the field you’ll find Ryder Cup heroes, Presidents Cup pairs, countrymen, fan favorites and even two sets of twin brothers. Given the format and the teams, it’s set to be a special week.

With the RBC Heritage now in the rear-view mirror, it’s also a valuable time to earn key FedExCup points as we inch closer to the Truist Championship, as golfers are jockeying for position in the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 to earn a spot in the field in Philadelphia.
Here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR returns to New Orleans.
FIELD NOTES: Fresh off his Masters victory – a major triumph that completed the career grand slam – Rory McIlroy will once again team up with friend-of-20-years Shane Lowry to defend their title in New Orleans. Last year marked McIlroy’s debut at the event, with the thought to play together stemming from a … celebratory … lunch between the two Ryder Cup teammates. McIlroy has won three times already this season on the PGA TOUR while Lowry has had a steady 2025 campaign with six top 25s in nine starts, including a runner up to McIlroy at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. … Collin Morikawa is the other top-10 ranked golfer in the field in New Orleans and will be teaming up with Kurt Kitayama after the duo finished T23 a year ago. Morikawa has three top-10 finishes so far this season while Kitayama has never missed the cut in New Orleans. … There are three sets of brothers teeing it up, including two sets of twins: Yannik and Jeremy Paul along with Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard. Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick (who finished T11 last year) is the other sibling duo, … There are always plenty of fun pairings this week in New Orleans including countrymen (Canada’s Nick Taylor/Adam Hadwin, France’s Matthieu Pavon/Victor Perez, South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen/Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune/Takumi Kanaya), neighbors (J.T. Poston/Keith Mitchell, Greyson Sigg/Kevin Kisner, Camilo Villegas/Luke Donald), same-college alums (Adam Schenk/Tyler Duncan, Quade Cummins/Chris Gotterup, Zac Blair/Patrick Fishburn), or just long-time pals (Joel Dahmen/Harry Higgs, Nick Hardy/Davis Riley – who won in 2023, Mark Hubbard/Ryan Brehm). … Garrick Higgo and Ryan Fox will be paired together as Higgo looks to continue his momentum from his return to the PGA TOUR winner’s circle last week at the Corales Puntacana Championship. … After his playoff loss to Justin Thomas at the RBC Heritage, Andrew Novak is right back in action alongside Ben Griffin. Novak finished T23 in 2024.
SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the Truist Championship. … The top 10 FedExCup points earners through the THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson will earn spots in the Truist Championship via the Aon Next 10. Maverick McNealy leads the Aon Next 10 list after Sunday at the RBC Heritage with Novak, who fell in a playoff to Justin Thomas at Harbour Town, sitting No. 4. … The top five FedExCup points earners in the Corales Puntacana Championship, Zurich Classic of New Orleans and THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson will earn spots in the Truist Championship via the Aon Swing 5. With his win in Punta Cana, Higgo sits atop the Aon Swing 5 after one event. … There was a five-way tie for second at the Puntacana Resort with Alejandro Tosti, Keith Mitchell, Jeremy Paul, Joel Dahmen and former PGA TOUR University No. 1 Michael Thorbjornsen all earning 95 points towards the Aon Swing 5 standings.
COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: With his win at the Signature Event RBC Heritage, Justin Thomas jumps back inside the TOUR TOP 10 standings from No. 11 all the way up to No. 2. Thomas’ victory at Hilton Head was his fifth top 10 of the season, matching Corey Conners for the lead on TOUR so far in 2025. … McNealy also jumped into the TOUR TOP 10, from No. 14 to No. 8 after finishing T3 at the RBC Heritage. … Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley both moved up one spot in the standings from No. 4 to No. 3 and No. 5 to No. 4, respectively. … Sepp Straka, Ludvig Åberg, Morikawa and J.J. Spaun round out the rest of the TOUR TOP 10. … With his T3 at Harbour Town, Brian Harman made a tidy leap from No. 22 to No. 12 and is just 70 points outside the TOUR TOP 10.
FEDEXCUP: Winners receives 400 FedExCup points.
COURSE: TPC Louisiana, par 72, 7,425 yards. Water hazards are featured prominently on the course, but the Pete Dye design (which featured Steve Elkington/Kelly Gibson as consultants) is one of the TOUR’s most scoreable layouts. It stretches over 250 acres of wetlands, features 100 bunkers and is located just 15 minutes from bustling downtown New Orleans.
72-HOLE RECORD: 258, Nick Hardy/Davis Riley (2023)
ALTERNATE SHOT RECORD: 63, Hadwin/Taylor (Round 4, 2023), Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele (Round 2, 2023), Chad Ramey/Martin Trainer (Round 4, 2024)
BEST BALL RECORD: 59, Cantlay/Schauffele (Round 1, 2022).
LAST TIME: Long-time pals and Ryder Cup teammates McIlroy and Lowry defeated Ramey and Trainer in a playoff to top the field in New Orleans last year. It was McIlroy’s tournament debut. Ramey and Trainer shot a tournament-record tying 63 in the Foursomes format in the final round to zip 25 spots up the leaderboard after making five birdies in a row after making the turn. They went 2-under for their final three holes to finish at 25-under 263 and then waited as McIlroy and Lowry went birdie-bogey-birdie to end up tied. Trainer pushed a 6-foot par attempt on the first playoff hole to the right, and the team of McIlroy/Lowry, who had known each other for about 20 years, was the winner. It was McIlroy’s 25th PGA TOUR title and Lowry’s third. The team of Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard nearly made it into the playoff as well, with Brehm’s birdie try on the 72nd hole hanging on the right-side lip. Patrick Fishburn and Zac Blair were tied for the lead heading to the 71st hole but made double bogey to end up in a four-way tie for fourth.

Baseball No. 4 FSU rallies past Stetson after slow start in return to action

After a slow start, No. 4 FSU baseball used a few big innings to rally past Stetson and win the first sporting event back on campus since Thursday's shooting.

The Noles have won five straight and are 30-7 entering this weekend's series at Louisville

Baseball Live Updates: No. 4 FSU vs. Stetson (Tuesday, 5 p.m.)

The first Florida State sporting event on campus after last Thursday's mass shooting on campus will be the FSU baseball team's home game vs. Stetson Tuesday night.

Originally slated for a 6 p.m. start time on ACC Network Extra, FSU announced today that it will now be a 5 p.m. start time and will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network. FSU also announced that it will have a pregame ceremony starting on the field at 4:30 p.m.

Prior to the game, beginning at 4:30 p.m., will be a period of reflection. With FSU faculty, staff and students welcomed onto the field, a moment of silence will be held, the Marching Chiefs will play and a doctor from Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s trauma surgery team will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Marching Chiefs also will play the national anthem. First responders and healthcare workers will be honored during the fourth inning.

FSU won two of three games vs. Stetson last season (including a 7-2 win in its NCAA Regional opener) and holds a 70-27 lead in the all-time series against the Hatters.

The Seminoles didn't play their scheduled home series over the weekend against Virginia because of the shooting, which killed two and injured six more. However, FSU still managed to climb three spots in D1Baseball's updated top 25 rankings from No. 7 last week to No. 4 this week because a number of teams above the Seminoles lost their weekend series.

FSU's game notes, released Tuesday morning, say that the Seminoles will start redshirt freshman LHP Payton Manca (2-1, 3.94 ERA) against Stetson junior RHP Ethan Phillips (1-2, 2.97 ERA).

The game is sold out, but fans can purchase tickets on SeatGeek. Limited tickets for FSU students remain available, and admission is free for FSU students with their I.D. at the Haggard Plaza right field gate. Free hotdogs will be available for early-arriving fans courtesy of FSU President Richard McCullough's Office.

Golf PGSF FedEx Cup Week 16 The RBC Heritage

scottietrophy-rbc.jpg

Written by Adam Stanley
It’s quite the change for so many in the field coming from the Masters to Harbour Town Golf Links for the RBC Heritage, with the Lowcountry chill a welcome change after Augusta National Golf Club was playing firm and fast through the weekend and was its usual major-championship best.
It’s another Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule, however, and the best in the game are all gathered at the RBC Heritage for another special week – led by defending champion Scottie Scheffler.
Here’s everything else you need to know with the TOUR returning to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
FIELD NOTES: Scottie Scheffler returns as defending champion at the RBC Heritage looking for his first win of 2025. Scheffler finished fourth alone at the Masters in his title defense at Augusta National – his fourth top 10 of 2025 – and seems to be rounding into form heading into this springtime stretch. … After his playoff loss at the Masters, Justin Rose – who made an incredible 10 birdies Sunday at Augusta National – returns to action. Rose has three top 10s so far this season (in fact, the other two, after the Masters, both came at Signature Events – the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard). Rose has been coming to Harbour Town since 2004. … There is plenty of star power making the quick trip from Augusta to Hilton Head Island, including Sungjae Im, who finished T5 (his third top-five finish of the season) and has had four straight top 25s at Harbour Town … Others who finished in the top 10 at the Masters and are teeing it up at the RBC Heritage include Corey Conners, Jason Day, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg, who finished T10 in his RBC Heritage debut last season. … Speaking of Schauffele, he appears to be back in form after a slow start to 2025 due to injury. He finished T12 at the Valspar Championship before finishing T8 at the Masters, his first top 10 of the season.

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Rickie Fowler is back in action at the RBC Heritage. It’s his ninth career start at Harbour Town, and Fowler has notched two top-20 results in a row. Fowler has two top-25 results so far this season. … Mackenzie Hughes is coming into the RBC Heritage off his best result of the season so far, a 10th at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. This will be his eighth spin around Harbour Town in his PGA TOUR career. … Jordan Spieth returns to a golf course he’s awfully familiar with – and where he’s had a ton of success. Last year notwithstanding, Spieth went 1-2 in his previous two trips to Harbour Town (in 2022 and 2023, respectively). He also has three other top-12 finishes in his career at the RBC Heritage.
SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The Aon Swing 5 was confirmed after the Valero Texas Open with Ryan Gerard, Karl Vilips, Gary Woodland, Ryo Hisatune and Sami Valimaki earning their way into the RBC Heritage. … J.J. Spaun topped the Aon Next 10 list, with Rose zipping all the way up to second after his playoff loss to Rory McIlroy at Augusta National. … Michael Kim, Maverick McNealy, Nick Taylor, Lucas Glover, Min Woo Lee, Harris English, Daniel Berger and Joe Highsmith rounded out the rest of the group. … The next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the Truist Championship. The Aon Next 10 will come from the FedExCup standings through THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, while the Aon Swing 5 will feature the top FedExCup points earners from the Corales Puntacana Championship, Zurich Classic of New Orleans and THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: With his solo-fourth at the Masters, Scheffler moved from No. 10 to No. 4 in the standings. Although Scheffler had a delayed start to his 2025 campaign due to his Christmastime injury, he has now notched four top-10 finishes in seven starts. … With his playoff loss to Rory McIlroy, Rose moved all the way from No. 33 to No. 9 in the standings, his first time earning his way into the TOUR TOP 10 so far this season. This was his third top-10 finish of the year. … Justin Thomas was the lone golfer bumped from the TOUR TOP 10, moving from No. 9 to No. 11, but he’s just 30 points back of Hideki Matsuyama at No. 10. Matsuyama remains the only person to be inside the TOUR TOP 10 every week so far this season.
COURSE: Harbour Town Golf Links, par 71, 7,213 yards. The iconic Pete Dye/Jack Nicklaus design – lengthened slightly last year – has hosted the RBC Heritage since the 1960s. It continues to challenge the best golfers in the world with its tight fairways, strategically-placed bunkers and small, contoured putting surfaces. New for 2025: Fairway bunkers on Nos. 2 and 6 have been converted back to waste areas.
A few weeks after the conclusion of the 2025 RBC Heritage, Harbour Town is set to be closed for an extensive restoration project that will be overseen by Davis Love III and his design company. That project means all the greens and bunkers are set to be rebuilt. Tees will also be laser-levelled and bulkheads will be replaced.
72-HOLE RECORD: 262, Webb Simpson (2020)
18-HOLE RECORD: 61, David Frost (Round 2, 1994), Troy Merritt (Round 2, 2015).
LAST TIME: Scheffler kept his momentum going from winning the green jacket the week prior to capture the 2024 RBC Heritage by three shots. It was Scheffler’s fourth win in his previous five starts (the exception was a runner up). He fired a 3-under 68 in the final round, a solid back-up effort after shooting a Saturday 63, the round of the day by three shots. Victory was inevitable for Scheffler has he had a five-shot lead with three holes left when the final round was suspended due to darkness after being delayed two-and-a-half hours due to storms Sunday afternoon. Sahith Theegala finished second at 16-under 268, while Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay were a shot further back at 15 under and tied for third.

Football Spring Portal Tracker-Portal Prospects FSU has or could have interest in adding to the 2025 roster

With the portal opening today and with Mike Norvell saying in his Tuesday presser that they are open to adding players to the roster for next season via the portal here are some guys who have either entered the portal or intend to enter the portal in the next ten days that FSU could or should have an interest in my opinion.

Atkinson looked like an All-American vs. FSU this past season. He had three sacks in a half against the Noles. I think he is a guy that FSU should at least feel out to gauge if he has any interest. He played over 600 snaps for the Tar Heels last season and is a guy that would definitely upgrade the Seminoles rotation on the defensive line. I know a lot has been made about the Desir twins this spring, but they are true freshmen, and I wonder how much of their success this spring has been because most of FSU's starting OL has been getting many reps this spring.

Pena was second team All-ACC this past season and FSU has roster spot open with Jordan Scott leaving. Pena has 84 catches this past season for 941 yards and can also return kicks. FSU has some young wide receivers with potential, but I don't think they are very deep, and he would automatically be the most productive WR on the team based on his 2024 season.

5 Star Rankings

I think one of the biggest mistakes we as fans or those who cover recruiting make when it comes to recruiting is the value put on a five star. These are supposed to be the very best of the best prosects, no brainer, can't miss type players. Where you see mistakes being made with 5-star rankings is the criteria to give these guys that lofty ranking differs based on each network. Most of the networks have a set number of 5 stars they give out each year. What happens when you have 20 great players nationally one year and the next there may only be 15. Should that number be 20 every year even if the talent level is down from one year to the next.

When it comes to the NFL Draft there is a set number of guys each year who are considered ELITE or can't miss prospects. Usually there are 12-13 in any given year. This year the scouts are saying there maybe only 5-6. That once you get out of the top 10 this year that number 11-50 there may not be that much of a difference.

The reason I bring this up is Hykeem Williams. His composite ranking was a five star. Was he really a TRUE 5* prospect? I rank differently. I have a (10) ranking. I think in the past decade in the state of Florida there have been maybe 10 total. Dalvin, Jeremiah Smith, Patrick Peterson, Pat Surtain Jr. There have been very few. I have never given a 10 ranking to a QB in the state of Florida. Never given a 10 ranking to a tight end. Never given a 10 ranking to a DT or DE or a LB. You can count on two hands all the true difference makers. My rankings are 10 (these are the very best nationally - Generation type talents). I have DJ Pickett this ranking last year as he was the best DB, I saw since Surtain. I have not missed on these guys over the years. Why, because they are so elite and the flaws they do have are almost non-existent. Trust me you dig deep enough there is some flaw in almost any prospect. My scouts have not given out many (10 -Rankings) Caleb Williams, Devonta Smith were probably some of the only ones with these type of rankings.

I bring this up because here we come to Hykeem Williams. He was a composite five star prospect. The problem is Hykeem was raw. Size (Check), Speed (Check)...I spoke to someone last year who left FSU and asked him about Hykeem. He said Fish he has two things that hold him back. He does not adjust well to the football and his timing is not good. He is a little stiff and this is a weakness. He is talented but lets be real is Hykeem in the same boat as Jeremiah Smith coming out (No), Sammy Watkins (No). I am not sure he is a top ten receiver in Florida the past ten years. I remember watching AJ Green in HS. I sat with Jimbo at the state finals that year and said to him...AJ Green is the real deal coach. He said Fish there is a kid in Alabama better...It was Julio Jones. Well, I had the chance to watch Julio the following Summer at Seminole Showcase against Antonio Cromartie who was in the NFL. Julio made him look silly.

So my point is....FIVE STARS...Should the networks really have a 6th star? Have those guys who are just different (Clowney, Jeremiah Smith, Pat Surtain Jr) and then have that next level recruit Hykeem who has some of those elite traits but there is room for them to really be great or just ok? Fans get upset when a five star kid does not make it. Hykeem is one of those guys but the reality is he may not really be in that elite group.

Football 2025 FSU football roster tracker

With scholarship rosters increasing in size to 105 but overall rosters decreasing, it's a fascinating offseason to see how the 2025 FSU roster shapes up.

We'll be updating this roster tracker over the next few weeks to keep an eye on how many spots FSU has left. As of Sunday morning, they are 79, without knowing which walk-ons FSU will retain in 2025.
