Herbstreit talking up Noles repeatedly tonight

Kirk Herbstreit is just talking up the Noles big time on this Ole Miss/Louisville broadcast repeatedly. All this following up his tweets last night.

It seems to me he is an example of the college world - outside our hated rivals - pulling to see FSU not suck anymore. And I use the word "suck" professionally because I can't think of any better way to describe what we have seen here the past 3 years or so. It seems the impartial world is excited to a degree for FSU. Because that product was just bad for college football and the ACC in particular.

Where FSU goes from here is anyone's guess. It may not go far at all this year, but the naked eye tells me at least it won't suck anymore. Losing is one thing, sucking is another. Whew, it was hard to watch man.

ALL PROFESSIONAL COPYRIGHTS FOR THE TERM "SUCK" HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED

Just got home. Some random thoughts.

1. Unbelievable crowd. Old school crowd. So proud of everyone that was there.
2. Not a lot of dry eyes at halftime. A wonderful tribute by the chiefs to a great man. I kept thinking, no matter how many wins,
The Gators, Canes, Tigers, Dawgs and even Crimson Tide they have never seen anything remotely like this. Of course there will never be another Bobby.
3: Game stuff. Opening series. It was obvious that FSU was intimidated on the first series. We forgot to cover their TE. ( No one covers the TE in college football.) Their QB threw a nice football. It looked like they were blow us out, then we found our spine. And no matter the result, no matter the play or QB or anything else. We found our character and fight.
4. Lapses- The end of the first half and middle third quarter. We lost our composure and intensity at the same time. I hate to call guys out but #5 and #22 made stupid penalties. Then what I think was the biggest play of the game. ND had a third and forever at their own 23 and called a screen. We were all yelling watch the draw, watch the screen. Evidently our DC has never seen a well run screen play. We were caught totally off guard. They get the first down. They score. You have them backed up. You have to make them punt. That PO’d me more than anything all night.
So we go down and score on a bomb by Travis. Go up 20-17 because we can’t kick an extra point. Then we lose all intensity AGAIN and the next thing you know it-s 38-20 ND. Then we get bowed up again and fought back.
5. Players- #5 I chastised him previously but he played well. especially in the 2nd half. #3 is a tough player. As is #46. #91 doesn’t ever look the part but big Coop does his job. Up the middle was closed for business. ND’s runningback saved their bacon. He would get 2 yards when he should have lost 3. Gainer needs to get in the weight room.He likes to arm tackle and those arms aren’t strong enough.
6. Kickers. A) Kickoffs our guy Groathaus was great. Every KO was fair caught. Then there is Fitzgerald. No consistency. And who the Hell ices their own kicker ?
Lastly. Who is our QB1? I still say both should play. I sincerely hope both play. I personally like Milton.
Kenny out.

Jax St. Score Prediction

Noles 38
Jax St. 23

Very encouraging signs and MIlton will start at QB. But still too many boneheaded mistakes.
The 4th and 2 call was a killer not to mention the 3rd down 17 blitz call. Mind bottling....
Can we find somebody to hike the **** ball? Do not sleep on Jax St. and don't get fat on such an encouraging performance. I just hope we don't spend too much time beating our chest this
week and assume we win by just showing up on the field. Our minds should now be on nothing
but Jax St.

Anyone that actually believes Norvell should have let our kicker attempt a 50YD FG…

Instead of calling timeout and trying to make it 13 yards shorter, is not rational enough to be posting.

If you’re going to complain, do it about something that makes sense, like he said we were going to be the best special teams school in the country. Special teams was VERY BAD as a whole, including a roughing the kicker penalty that should have been called and probably would have ended the game.

This icing the kicker complaint does not make our fan base look very intelligent.

Team Psychologist

Are we still using a football team psychologist like when Jimbo was here? Seems like we can’t get over the hump with the false starts, bad snaps, deer in the headlights look by JT etc.. That was the difference in the game yesterday. Notice how Notre Dame didn’t have those issues. Reminded me of Jimbo’s FSU teams before he stopped caring.

Real season starts now

There was a very small chance we would beat ND coming into the season. Did way better than expected. Question is do we gain confidence from this, or is it another 2020 UNC game fluke. One encouraging thing is we actually ended the game strong, where UNC we limped over the finish line. If we play well against JSU and Wake this may actually become a turnaround season

My Thoughts On Why MM Didn't Start

Common sense says you don't start a guy that hasn't played organized fast football in over 1,000 days vs the 9th ranked team in America.

JT has wheels and can escape plays. I think Norvell made the right decision considering MM's injuries in the past. He didn't know what the O line would look like and MM showed signs of rust during practices.

That being said, he is a better pocket passer than JT. He has the confidence to throw into those tight windows. My thing about MM, I'm scared for him to run on that leg and Im scared for him to get hit on it. Him starting next week is fine with me.

Jordan is holding the ball too long and the 3 Ints cost us 21 points. He's waiting until a guy is wide wide open to throw the ball instead of having confidence and putting it in a tight window. You have one guy coming off injury another guy that can escape the pocket and take licks. MM hasn't been hit yet. Tough decision for who starts on the road in a couple of weeks.

Non emotional take on the game/program

1- Norvell in game decision making is rough and needs to improve. It should with more experience. He reminds me of Kirby Smart in that regard.
2- Jermaine Johnson is the best player on the team and it ain’t really close (we’ll see where Milton goes from here)
3- The fact Jermaine stands out so much physically from the rest of the team is evidence of how bad the last few years have been and how there’s still a ton of improvement needed.
4- The transfers are the reason this game was a nail biter. Norvell and co. Scouting is clearly elite.
5- we need to go out and get more/hit on transfers in offseason
6- Travis is a great dude and makes plays nobody else on the roster can make but he was really boom or bust tonight with too much of the latter
7- all 3 RBs are great compared to what I thought of them prior to tonight
8- even though it was a horrible, gut-wrenching loss… tonight was a major win. The whole country got to see FSU competitive on the big stage with an awesome environment. This game will 100% help recruiting
9- RIP to coach Bowden. He would have been proud of the boys tonight considering how far we’ve come. I still can’t believe he’s gone.
10- F kickers

would like some feedback from y’all. Sorry it was so long.

Front 7 next year?

After watching the front 7 last night, I'm concerned about a regression next season. We will lose JJ, Gainer, Keir Thomas, Lovett, possibly Briggs, maybe Cooper and I might be missing a couple more.

I didn't notice Tru Thomas, McClendon, Fuller, etc. in the rotation much or making any significant impact. We might have a season of a gap in production in the front 7 while we wait for some of the incoming freshman from this class to get up to speed to he starters.

6 plays

Take away one of these six and we win…maybe.
1. Busted coverage on 1st ND TD
2. Int #1
3. Int #2
4. Int #3
I agreed with call to go for it there.
5. Travis Jay getting beat deep 1st time.
6. Travis Jay getting beat deep 2nd time.

Anyone of these 6 have a different outcome we win…maybe. Also, I’m not knocking Travis Jay at all. Best loss I’ve been to since Oklahoma 2011, if this is a sign of of our trajectory for 2 years down the road I’ll take it.
