Cross Country FSU travels to GT Invitational

FSU sports information:

The No.26/ RV Florida state cross country teams will race in the GT XC Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech on Friday at Bouckaert Farm.

The men’s 8k will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women’s 6k at 9:20 a.m. Live timing will be available.

"It can always be a little stressful for race plans to change,” said FSU women’s head coach Cody Halsey. “We feel lucky to have had the opportunity to add another meet to the schedule last minute after ours was canceled due to Hurricane Helene. I think the girls are really excited for the chance to compete and we are looking forward to the opportunity to do that at Georgia Tech.”

Sophomore Bieke Schipperen had a breakout performance at the Nuttycombe Invitational on September 27th. Leading the Noles in the women’s 6k. The Dussen, Netherlands native finished 17th with a time of 20:30.2, marking the highest finish for a Seminole at the Nuttycombe Invitational since Collen Quigley placed 13th in 2014. FSU received votes in week two USTFCCCA poll.

The men’s team entered the USTFCCCA national rankings for the first time this season at No.26, after finishing 15th overall as a team at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Kidus Misgina led the Noles for the second straight meet, after placing 16th in the 8k at 23:45.9. Matthew Neill set a career best, placing 37th with a time of 24:03.2. Joseph Farley made his season debut clocking a personal best of 24:40.2, placing 99th.

“Really excited to get our guys another competition this weekend in Georgia,” said assistant coach Ian Frazier. “Hurricane Helene unfortunately took away an opportunity to compete at home, which we were excited about for obvious reason, as Apalachee Regional Park is hosting the upcoming NCAA South Regional meet.”

“Georgia Tech is a course our guys are familiar with and have had good experiences within the past,” added Frazier. "I'm excited to see how they fare in their first 8k of the season, as we’ve got some great talent in that group that can contribute to our ACC squad in the next month.”

I am reminding myself. . .

This is just one game.

If Brock happens to have an out of body experience and goes 18/21 for 260 yards and 3 TD’s, I am not going to anoint him as the future of FSU football.

If he goes 9/23 for 140 yards 1 TD and 1 pick, I am not going to say he “doesn’t have it” and be ready to kick him to the curb.

I just hope I see some poise, some progress, and some ability to extend some plays. Mainly I just hope the entire team starts to improve as a whole, there are so may areas that are failing right now, I just hope they take some steps in the right direction and the QB position doesn’t look like a disaster.

DECOMMIT ALERT

We are no longer on commit alert!! For the rest of the season we are officially on DECOMMIT ALERT!!

It’s crazy how the bottom is falling out of this thing so fast. Seven weeks ago we had a guy who we thought might be a generational coach. Now he’s fielding what looks like the worst team in FSU history. Doesn’t seem to have any answers. Has statistically one of the worst teams in the country and likely has to consider wholesale changes to everything.

Who is committing to play for him right now?

Insanity…

Football Game experience, development in practice give Brock Glenn confidence

Early playing time for a quarterback is a blessing and a curse. The opportunity presents itself, but often the situation is less than ideal.

Brock Glenn was rushed into a starting role last December against a pair of ranked opponents, first the ACC Championship game vs. No. 15 Louisville and then the Orange Bowl against No. 6 Georgia. Glenn’s stats don’t say much, just 19 of 51 for 229 yards and two interceptions, but it’s more about the experience he gained as a true freshman in the long haul.

“Both were great opportunities. They’ve given me good game experience,” Glenn said after Wednesday’s practice. “Obviously, two good teams, Louisville and Georgia. Just seeing how fast the speed of the game is in a real game has helped a lot. That’s helped me translate it to practice as well.”

Glenn has had his good days in practice, ones where he’s been accurate from the pocket and on the move. He’s shown a good connection with veteran receivers as well as younger ones. He’s also had days in practice where his passes have been off the mark or intercepted. It’s all part of the growing pains for a young quarterback.

Sports Business FSU's far-reaching plan to bridge $85 million annual challenge

Prior to becoming Florida State’s athletic director, Michael Alford was standing at the crossroads of collegiate athletics where he could see the lights of two freight trains — each bearing landscape-tilting dynamite — heading toward an inevitable collision.

One carried carloads of multi-billion-dollar anti-trust judgements, first Alston v NCAA, followed by the House v NCAA settlement, which will impact every school's athletics budget by $25 million or more per year. The other carried competition-tilting media rights’ contracts that will provide the schools in two conferences — the SEC and the Big Ten — with $40 million more in annual television revenue than any other school will receive.

In an exclusive interview with The Osceola, Florida State’s athletic director Michael Alford assessed the damage to FSU and collegiate athletics and explored critical pathways to fund the future.

In this column we explain how collegiate athletics got here, how these Supreme Court mandates would lead FSU to file the lawsuit with the ACC, how schools will try to absorb nearly $45 million in new, mandated costs, especially those schools not in the SEC or Big 10 who will receive an extra $40 million or more each year in media rights, more than any school not in one of those two conferences.
