We will not be an elite program until our HS recruiting becomes elite

Posted this awhile back, got alot pushback on this, but this staff is not elite at HS recruiting... its come back to haunt us... Need to upgrade the staff at the end of the year.
How many programs have recruited outside of the top 10 for the past 4 years and are considered "elite"? How many have made the playoffs? a few, but its not the norm.
It would be wise for Norvell to pull a dabo and give up some of his salary to hire a better staff

Not good. Recruiting classes at 19, 27, and 20, not bad, not impressive either, and not the talent needed to compete with the "big boys". A new turd coach with a bad hair cut and only a few months on the job posted a #19 class.... Norvell needs to pick up the recruiting.

Well, we at least played some of the young guys

A lot of people were saying that the season is lost and we need to play the young guys. I think the coaching staff agreed. On offense, we saw Kam Davis, and Jaylen Early played the whole game at right tackle. Bunch of young guys played on defense. We saw KJ Sampson, Blake Nichelson, Justin Cryer, DeMarco Ward, Quindarrius Jones, Ja'Bril Rawls, Conrad Hussey, KJ Kirkland. I think we can expect to see DJU being benched as well. Obviously this year is a disaster, but maybe getting all these freshman and sophomores playing time will pay off next year.

Football Hykeem Williams set to make season debut, veteran DB out for Memphis game

FSU has released its participation report ahead of today’s game vs. Memphis.

The good news? Hykeem Williams is set to make his season debut today.

The bad news? Veteran DB Shyheim Brown will miss today’s game.

Where to start?

I’ll start with DJ. I’m sure DJ is a great kid/person but he’s not a big time QB. Zero mobility and not accurate with passes. Literally brings no intangibles to the table and defenses do not respect or fear him.

Norvell. CMN is not doing very good. Play calling is a joke and the offensive production is worse than a joke.

Defense actually looked good today, granted it was Memphis, but they definitely improved. Offense did not help them out at all today.

Funny thing is I thought the offense could be tweaked and get better but I also felt the defense was not salvageable this year. I got it backwards.

Penalties are horrible. This is not a very good coached team.

For $10.5M a year Norvell should be feeling major heat. No one should make that kind of money and be that bad at what they do.

FSU volleyball sweeps FAU on Friday

FSU sports information:

The No. 21 Florida State volleyball team (6-1) kicked off the Seminole Classic with a sweep (25-23, 25-14, 26-24) against Florida Atlantic (5-3) on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Tully Gym. Friday was the first meeting between the in-state foes since 2019, and FSU kept its unbeaten streak alive against the Owls improving to 11-0 all time.

The Seminoles held similar standings with the Owls during the beginning of the first set, but FSU used a 7-1 run to jump ahead 16-11. The Owls continued to chip away, and eventually tied the set at 22. The Owls had a chance to take the lead, but an attacking error gave the point to the Noles. Taylor Head put down a big kill to get the Noles to set point. The Owls responded with a kill of their own, but Khori Louis slammed the ball into the floor to give the Noles the first set.

The second set saw FSU take control early on, and they ran away with the set with some more great offense as they were hitting .491 through two sets.

Set three began with multiple back and forth points with both teams unable to find a rhythm. Florida Atlantic gained some momentum with a 6-1 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Owls took a 15-13 lead into the media timeout, but back-to-back kills from Louis tied the set, and Head gave the Noles the lead. The two teams traded points, but the Owls used a 3-1 spurt to take a 21-19 lead. FSU responded with a 3-0 run of its own thanks to kills from Louis and Filimaua to take the lead. Both teams saw its fair share of errors, but with the set tied at 24, Louis and Filimaua capped off their career nights with back-to-back kills to end the match.

Louis had a game-high 15 kills on 23 attempts (.609) which tied her career high. Louis also contributed eight blocks which was one shy of her career high. Filimaua had a career high in both kills (14) and hitting percentage (.520) while also leading the team with nine digs. Head also had a solid night offensively with 10 kills on 25 attempts (.400). Loren Robertson led the way by dishing out 28 assists to go with seven digs.

FSU continues the Seminole Classic weekend with a matchup against UCF on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game can be watched live on ACCNX.

Football Osceola Q&A: Lamarcus Joyner on FSU career, 2013 title, message to 2024 team

This is one of my favorite interviews in a while. Hope you enjoy this 1-on-1 with Lamarcus Joyner, who took the time to speak reflectively on his FSU career and very candidly about the mindset of a football player:

Lamarcus Joyner is thankful and honored to be recognized on Friday night as one of the newest members of Florida State’s athletics hall of fame. Joyner played a number of defensive back spots from 2009-13 at FSU, committing to his dream school in the days after the coaching transition from Bobby Bowden to Jimbo Fisher and staying in school to help the Seminoles claim a third national title.

Now retired after nine years in the NFL with the Rams, Raiders and Jets from 2014-22, Joyner is back home in South Florida. He’s the father of five, with a sixth on the way, and is a coach and mentor to football players at all levels. He has a packed schedule on Friday, in part meeting current Seminoles as well as familiar faces like Jerry Latimer, FSU’s longtime director of athletic rehabilitation, and Bruce Warwick, who he knew going back to their days with the Rams, among others who work in and around the Moore Athletic Center.

Florida State’s 2024 class includes Joyner and receiver Anquan Boldin, baseball All-American Ryan Barthelemy, All-American softball pitcher Casey Hunter, NCAA hurdles champion Phillip Riley, tennis great Katie Rybakova and former FSU track athlete and long-time Florida State athletics administrator Bernie Waxman. They will be honored in a ceremony this evening at the University Center Club.

“I don't do well with accolades because that's not really even really why I played the game,” Joyner told the Osceola on Thursday night. “I'm thankful when I do receive it, but I'm more so just there to watch the game (Saturday) and just feel the majesty of being on campus again, being around that atmosphere, that environment. I'm there to just see the younger guys and see what they got, up close and personal.”

Below is Joyner's interview with the Osceola on his FSU career and what his message would be to current Seminoles.
