I think they over achieved most of the year. Losing 2/5 of your starting rotation before the season even began hurt. Combine that with the leadership void from Chipper retiring and McCann leaving and it was a recipe for a poor year.Originally posted by trefeet:
I'm starting to think that this is a really bad team that just over achieved for a decent part of the early summer.

Well technically it is after their season so......Originally posted by DFSNOLE:
Not surprising but I expected them to wait until after the season.

$46mil left in that contract. That's a lot to eat.Originally posted by trefeet:
My hope is whoever is the new GM will decide to eat BJ Uptons contract move Heyward to center and get another decent RF player.

I've seen mixed reviews on Miller, but most think he is a #3 on potential, and hope that his September from this past season is a sign of things to come and not the rest of the season where he was very pedestrian. I understand the move, as it was basically 1 year of Heyward for 4 of Miller and a prospect that has 6, and is already in the top 10 for the Braves (#7) who was #17 for St. Louis. Some say the prospect has huge potential but injuries have been a major issue. One pitcher was needed for the rotation, but I was hoping against odds that Heyward wasn't the one dealt for a pitcher and would resign to be a building block for the Braves when the move comes. His WAR and especially his defense make him one of the top outfielders in the game.Originally posted by Manch.:
As a Cards fan, I am not too keen on losing Miller. It didn't take the Cards long to replace Taveras (22 year old rookie who died last month in a car wreck), who they gave him the future when they traded Craig to the Sox. This deal happens because St. Louis is loaded with young arms, one of the best run franchises in sports.
