On this day in Seminole history, the Bobby Bowden statue was dedicated in Tallahassee prior to playing Clemson and beating the Tigers 41-22 in what was known as Bowden Bowl VI.
Although it was the 3rd game of the season, the first TD pass of the season was finally thrown when Wyatt Sexton (filling in for an injured Chris Rix) connected with a 47-yard toss to Chancey Stovall.
Five Noles scored TD's in the winning effort. The defense picked off Charlie Whitehurst 3 times, forced 2 fumbles and held the Clemson offense to only 173 yards, helping Bobby gain a 5-1 record against his son, Tommy Bowden.
The 9 foot tall statue, located by the Les and Ruth Akers Plaza, was created by W. Stanley "Sandy" Proctor and unveiled on September 25, 2004.
