ACC places eight teams in NCAA women's tournament

For the seventh straight season, the Atlantic Coast Conference will send eight teams to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, matching the conference record. The streak of eight teams is the longest in NCAA Tournament history.

This year features four hosts in No. 2 seeds Duke and NC State and No. 3 seeds North Carolina and Notre Dame.

Winning its first ACC title since 2013, Duke (26-7, 14-4) makes its 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and earned its highest seed under head coach Kara Lawson. The Blue Devils will host No. 15 seed Lehigh, the Patriot League champions, on Friday, March 21.

NC State (26-6, 16-2) will make its 30th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 15 seed Vermont in its first-round matchup on Saturday, March 22. The Wolfpack shared the regular-season ACC title and earned the top seed in the 2025 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Also making its 30th appearance in the NCAA Tournament is Notre Dame (26-5, 16-2), which earned the No. 3 seed in the Birmingham 3 Regional. The Fighting Irish will welcome No. 14 seed Stephen F. Austin to Purcell Pavilion on Friday.

North Carolina (27-7, 13-5) makes its conference-best 32nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament after earning a No. 3 seed in the Birmingham 2 Regional. The Tar Heels will play host to No. 14 seed Oregon State in the first round on Saturday.

Florida State (23-8, 13-5) earned the No. 6 seed in the Spokane 1 bracket and will face 11th-seeded George Mason in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday. The Seminoles are making their 12th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 23rd overall, as the No. 6 seed is the highest seed under head coach Brooke Wyckoff.

Earning the No. 7 seed in the Birmingham 3 Regional is Louisville (21-10, 13-5) after it finished the regular season tied for fourth in the final ACC standings. The Cardinals, who will be making their 14th straight trip to the Dance and 27th overall, will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face 10th-seeded Nebraska for their first-round matchup on Friday.

No. 8 seed California (25-8, 12-6) will make its NCAA Tournament debut as ACC members on Saturday when its squares off with No. 9 seed Mississippi State in Los Angeles. The Golden Bears are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019 and their 15th overall.

Georgia Tech (22-10, 9-9) claimed the No. 9 seed in the Spokane Regional 1 bracket and will also head to Los Angeles, California, for its first-round contest. The Yellow Jackets are making their 12th appearance in March Madness and will face eighth-seeded Richmond on Friday.

Times for each NCAA Tournament matchup remain to be determined.

The ACC has won 130 games in the NCAA Tournament since 2014, the most among any conference in that span. The league has sent three different teams to the previous three Final Fours with Louisville is 2022, Virginia Tech in 2023 and NC State in 2024.

For the 22nd consecutive year, an ESPN channel will broadcast all 67 games of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. This marks the 30th straight year (since 1996) ESPN is the championship’s exclusive television home. All games will be available online via the ESPN App. The 2025 NCAA Women’s Final Four is expected to be distributed to over 200 countries around the world.

Regional play in Birmingham, Alabama (Legacy Arena) and Spokane, Washington (Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena) will take place March 28-31, with each site hosting two regional semifinal games March 28 and two March 29. In addition, each site will host a regional championship game March 30 and one on March 31.

The 2025 NCAA Women’s Final Four will be played April 4 and 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
