Are you or were you ever a baseball fan?

was a huge baseball fan as a kid. we used to hop a train(illegally) and ride it down to the minor league park. We'd hang around after the games and we had nicknames for the groupies. Was a big Cubs fan and the first game I attended Don Drysdale was pitching for the Dodgers. My dream of making the bigs died that day. Played hs ball and won state. After that I followed it but the years of the Cubs losing wore me out. My sons a fanatic and I was glad the Cubs won last year, but I don't follow it as much now.

Followed baseball religiously in my youth. Knew virtually every player on every team, their stats, team standings, etc.

Then came free agency, with players bouncing from team to team with great regularity. Add a labor stoppage or two. Add obscene player salaries. Add steroid scandal. Add the expansion of my own family and professional commitments, and, well, baseball is now basically a distant afterthought. Barely follow it at all.

When I was a kid, I was a huge MLB fan. I'd get out my notebook paper and ruler and make a score sheet, then score the game. Joe and Tony did a great job. Later, when I was going to college, I worked 3rd shift, would go to class in the morning, then sometimes I would sleep on the couch at my friend's house - he had AC and cable. I'd turn on WGN and listen to Cubs games with Harry Cary and Steve Stone.

Something happened to my interest during the second baseball strike. It really affected my feelings for MLB. As a result, I took more interest in college baseball, and the minor leagues. I'll still go to about one MLB game per year, on average, and multiple Minor League games, or an FSU game if I can. I no longer watch pro baseball on TV, or follow pro baseball in the media.

Major League Baseball is my second favorite sport after college football. I'm beginning to lose interest in any other sports other than FSU related sports. I watch about a hundred Marlins games a year on TV. Generally not all of them but parts of them. I check to see if the team is winning on my phone and usually watch the games where we are either winning or within a run or two. If we're getting blown out I don't sit there and watch the game. I was a big Braves fan in the early 90s. Sid Bream coming around third! When the Marlins started in 1993, I changed teams and supported the Marlins wholeheartedly because I was living in Miami at the time. I went to the World Series game 4 in 2003 when Alex Gonzalez hit the homerun to beat the Yankees. Have attended both Marlins World Series parades and rallies. I love baseball because it's an everyday sport and whether the team is in the postseason race or out of it, you can still win each day and get a smile. I have the major league baseball app on my phone and listen to games on that as well. One of the best things about baseball is it is a bonding experience between me and my father. We go on a baseball trip every year usually to Tampa and catch a couple of games. It's just an excuse to get together. Another fun thing that me and my wife do is when we're traveling we try to catch a major league baseball game in the city were in if the team is in town. Have had a lot of fun that way!

Good info. Your reply provided some nice insite.. I felt like not much of a baseball fan because im not able to watch all 9 innings on TV. But it's nice to know other fans don't watch it all either.

Looking forward to the playoffs. Only if I can bring son back as well. We are going to try and join a softball team together next summer (he will be 15 y/o).
