FSU sits at 10 commitments at this time. They still have major needs at QB, WR, OL, DE and DT. Their secondary recruiting is once again the strength of their class. Bell, Hughes and Johnson are all good gets. It will be interesting to see what they do at quarterback as each option on the table the Seminoles do not sit in a great spot. We will break down the 13 players who are at the top of our MUST get list.
1. DE Trenton Henderson - Pensacola Catholic -6'4-225 - FSU has a major need for a big time defensive end. Henderson is the highest rated player on their board. He gives you the size to help set the edge on run plays. He also can get after the quarterback. He has an official visit set for October. FSU needs to stay in the game. He has not visited in a while which is always a concern. Does he make the visit in the fall?
2. DT Kendall Guervil - Fort Myers - 6'5-315 - Kendall also plays a position of major need for FSU. Texas and Georgia look to stand out right now. FSU is also in the mix. You have to eventually win these battles. After losing Myron Charles last year, the Seminoles need to stop Texas from landing another elite prospect in Florida. Spoke to someone close to Kendall, FSU is very much in the picture and could be where he ends up.
3. QB Landon Duckworth - Jackson HS- 6'3-200 - I had the Houston QB number one on my list. Duckworth is number 2. I know that Landon is leaning towards South Carolina at this time. What I also know is FSU has a major need for a QB. You have to win one of these battles. (Cancelled visit and FSU is now out)
4. QB Jaden O'Neal - Mustang HS - 6'3-215 (Committed to OU) - Not a huge fan of O'Neal. He has a nice arm. He does not fit the offense. O'Neal is a poor man’s version of Jacoby Brissett. QB is such a huge need that the Seminoles can't come up empty handed. (Visits soon and FSU needs to land O'Neal)
5. RB Jae Lamar - Colquitt County - 6'0-200 - FSU landed the top running back out of Georgia last year. Can they do it again this year? Lamar is a prospect that fits what Mike Norvell likes to do on offense. He can run with both power and finesse. He would give FSU another very good running back to to pair with Kromah.
6. WR Brandon Bennett - American Heritage - 6'0-170 - FSU needs SPEED. There are not many receivers faster than Bennett. He is close to pulling the trigger IMHO. Bennett has ties to coach Surtain. Look for FSU to try and close this one out before the summer ends. (Committed to FSU)
7. TE Evan Jacobson - Waukee -6'7-220 - He has visited twice since last year. He is probably the highest rated TE on their board. He has great size and can run. He also has very good hands. You can’t turn away a top rated tight end from Iowa. They seem to produce top-flight talent at this position. (FSU is out for Jacobson- visit cancelled -looks to be heading to Notre Dame)
8. OT Samuel Roseborough - Clearwater HS - 6'5-290 - With Johnnie Jones choosing UCLA, Samuel ends up priority number one at tackle. For a team that needs tackles it is the one position on the roster they seem to struggle to recruit at. He has some size. He is probably more suited to playing on the right side.
9. OT Aaron Thomas - Mountain Pointe- 6'7-300 - The one thing that should be in FSU's favor is Thomas' dad played at FSU. He gives FSU the size and length they need at tackle. He is another must get at this point. Thomas does not have a ton of teams fighting for his services so that should be a good thing.
10. DT Earnest Rankins - Southwest Dekalb- 6'6-280 - FSU needs size on the DL. Rankins gives you size. He is listed at 6'6-290 pounds. Rankins can take on blocks. He can push the pocket backwards. He can dominate from the inside. He is exactly what the doctor ordered along the defensive line.
11. LB Xavier Griffin - Gainesville HS - 6'3-200 - FSU is in the discussion for Griffin. He has been all over the place in his recruitment. Getting him back on campus is a must. Look for Griffin to be one of their main priorities. He has the size and speed they so desperately need on defense.
12. LB TJ White - Jackson Academy HS - 6'1-225 - White is another linebacker that FSU is recruiting. He comes from Mississippi and that is always a tough pull. FSU is in the ball game. Not much else you can ask for.
13. Chauncey Kennon - Booker - 6'1-175 - This one seemed like a done deal for FSU. These days that is a tough call. Kennon is FSU's top DB who has yet to commit. He is someone we expect to pull the trigger by now. (Keep an eye on this one - FSU could get a commitment soon)
Missed the cut - DB Samari Matthews, DB Lasiah Jackson, Ath Derrek Cooper, LB Duyon Forkpa, DT Cameron Brickle, DE Tristan Givens, TE Julius Miles
