I was in a discussion recently about who has had the most dominant all-time defense, FSU or Miami. It was brought up that Miami is known as "Linebacker U" and I made the point FSU has had more dominant linebackers than UM. That said, here's how I see the top 5 linebackers for each University (with some help from google on the UM side).
UM Top 5 linebackers:
Ray Lewis (Obviously fantastic)
Dan Morgan (great player)
Jonathan Vilma (good player, but historically great?)
Michael Barrow
Darrin Smith
FSU Top 5 linebackers:
Derrick Brooks (one of the best ever)
Marvin Jones (ditto)
Paul McGowan (never saw him play, heard he was dominant)
Ernie Sims
Sam Cowart
Objectively, am I off base here thinking that FSU has had the more dominant linebackers historically?
UM Top 5 linebackers:
